Getting home

Every way back to the Overworld, whichever way you came in. Know one before you go: the rift you arrive beside closes 30 seconds after you land.

If you came by portal

Walk back into the arrival gate you arrived at. It always leads to the portal you came through. If that portal has gone dark or been broken since, you land where it stood.

If the gate has gone dark (a portal block broken, say), note blocks and Singers can’t light it: nothing lights a portal that way in the Swift. Its four echo golem guards can. Wake them during the Thrive tide (they sleep through Flow and Endure), and once four awake golems stand within 12 blocks of the opening, they chime one after another and the gate fills again.

A frame you build in the Swift (reinforced deepslate needs Creative) lights the same way, with four awake golems. It takes you back to the last portal you came in by, or to the world spawn if you have never come by portal.

If you came by rift

A return rift opens beside you when you arrive. Like every rift, it closes once 30 seconds pass with no one going through it, so it won’t wait while you explore. Step straight back if you only wanted a look; otherwise have another way home ready.

Any rift in the Swift takes you back to where the rift you came in through stood, so a rift you open yourself (below) does the same. If you came by portal instead, a rift takes you to your spawn point: your bed, or the world spawn.

Open a rift home

  • Use a Soul Block. Place it and use it: a rift home tears open a few blocks past it, facing you. During Thrive it keeps its charge, so you can use it again; at other times it drains into a Drained Soul Block, which recharges only when placed in the Swift during Thrive.
  • Give a Singer an Echo Shard. It sings a rift open a few blocks past it. Singers wander Singer’s Meadow, Lullaby Hills and Sifter Canyon, rarely and alone.

No rift opens while another is open within 32 blocks (use that one), or where there’s no ground and room for it.

Finding a Soul Block in the Swift

If all else fails

Dying in the Swift sends you to your spawn point in the Overworld: your bed, or the world spawn. You drop your things where you fell, as you would anywhere else.

With cheats

/swift leave takes you back as a gate would: to the portal you came in by, or to the world spawn. See commands.
