Tides

The Swift doesn’t have an ordinary day and night. Its time runs in three tides, Surge, Slack and Undertow, and each one changes what the Swift’s souls do.

The tides follow the time of day, which the Swift shares with the Overworld, so a full cycle takes 20 minutes, as long as a Minecraft day. Slack comes at dawn, the Surge runs through the day, Slack returns at dusk and the Undertow lasts all night. Outside the Swift, nothing changes.

TideWhenWhat changes
SlackDawn and dusk, 1 minute 40 seconds eachNothing. The Swift is calm.
SurgeThe day, 8 minutes 20 secondsSoul Blocks recharge twice as fast, and echo golems send out their soul pulse twice as often.
UndertowThe night, 8 minutes 20 secondsSoul Blocks stop recharging and echo golems stop pulsing. Half the monsters that spawn are soul-warped.

Knowing the tide

When you arrive in the Swift, a message tells you the tide. Whenever it turns, its name appears on screen with a chime. At night, during the Undertow, the fog turns violet and the aurora comes out.

Soul-warped monsters

During the Undertow, half the monsters that spawn in the Swift are soul-warped. They burn with blue soul fire and are tougher than usual: they have 4 extra hearts, and their melee attacks deal 1½ hearts more. Each one has a trait:

  • Burning: its hits set you on fire.
  • Freezing: its hits slow you down.
  • Fleet: it moves much faster.

The warping fades as soon as the tide turns. Bosses, monsters that live in structures and monsters from spawn eggs are never warped.
