The Swift

The Swift is Minecraft’s fourth dimension: a serene, colourful place humming with song and drifting souls.

Sky and time

The sky is a clear turquoise. With Vibrant Visuals turned on, it also turns rose at dusk and violet at night. The Swift follows the same time of day as the Overworld. After dark the fog turns violet and thins out, and three pastel curtains of aurora ripple around you. They have bright mint lower edges and rays that rise through cyan into pink and violet. They fade in at dusk and are gone by dawn.

The Swift’s time is measured in tides: Slack at dawn and dusk, Surge by day and Undertow by night, and each tide changes what the Swift’s souls do.

Landscape

Most of the Swift is rolling pink meadow at about the Overworld’s sea level, broken by groves of tall white willows trailing long pale strands, towering red swiftstone spires, the bone-strewn dunes of the Carapace and wide basins of ichor. Floating islands drift high overhead, trailing weeping willow strands, and sinkholes lead down into the Echo Den, a maze of sculk-lined caverns. See Biomes and Structures.

Atmosphere

Glowing motes and soul wisps float through the air. The Swift has its own music, and now and then soft chimes drift across the land. When you walk through a patch of Chimebells, they ring. Each biome shows its name on screen as you enter it.

Rules of the Swift

  • No sleeping. “The Swift hums too brightly to sleep.” Beds don’t work and don’t set your spawn point, and respawn anchors do nothing.
  • Dying sends you back to your spawn point in the Overworld.
  • Monsters spawn in the dark (light level 7 or below), just like in the Overworld.
  • Portals can’t be lit here. Deep Dark portal frames built inside the Swift stay dark. Use the gate you arrived through to get home.
