Dunkleosteus Deepfang

Quickstart

1. Find a Dunkleosteus in an ocean or deep ocean, or use a Dunkleosteus Spawn Egg or Baby Dunkleosteus Spawn Egg from the Creative Spawn Eggs tab.
2. Prepare for an underwater fight: the adult is heavily armored and can pull nearby prey toward its jaws. Try to stay out in front of it and keep your distance.
3. Defeat an adult for a chance at a Dunkleosteus Armor Plate. Use plates to craft Deepfang armor and equipment; a full armor set grants Water Breathing and Dolphin’s Grace while worn.

Overview

Dunkleosteus Deepfang adds an adult deep-sea predator, its baby variant, and equipment made from the adult’s rare plates. Both variants can appear naturally in oceans, but the adult is a formidable threat: it has 520 health and hunts living prey in water, including players and occupants of boats in water.

What It Adds

How To Use

Dunkleosteus swim and hunt on their own; there is no special player interaction needed to trigger their attacks. Adults can pursue prey from a distance, then bite at close range or use a forward-facing suction attack to pull nearby living targets toward their jaws.

Use a spawn egg to place either variant directly. For a natural encounter, search ocean biomes in deep water, below Y=58 and at least four blocks below sea level. Natural spawning requires three water blocks above a solid floor.

Crafting And Obtaining

Adults drop 2–5 cod and 2–6 bones. They have a low chance to drop a Dunkleosteus Armor Plate, and may also drop 1–2 prismarine shards. Looting can improve drops. Baby Dunkleosteus do not drop items.

Craft Deepfang armor from plates at a crafting table. The Deepfang Blade and the pickaxe, axe, shovel, and hoe use plates and sticks. Plates can also repair Deepfang armor and tools.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Adult bite: Deals heavy damage at close range.
• Suction attack: Pulls multiple nearby targets in front of the Dunkleosteus toward its mouth before a follow-up bite. The pull reaches about 7.5 blocks.
• Water-bound hunting: It hunts while in water and targets prey that is in water or riding a boat in water.
• Boat danger: A bite against a target riding in a boat can destroy the boat.
• Baby variant: Has 18 health and a weaker bite than the adult. It does not drop loot.

Deepfang armor protects well: its pieces provide 4 armor points for the helmet, 8 for the chestplate, 7 for the leggings, and 4 for the boots. Wearing all four pieces continuously grants Water Breathing and Dolphin’s Grace.

Progression And Strategy

Start with an adult hunt when you are equipped for underwater combat; the adult has 520 health, substantial armor, and strong resistance to knockback. Its suction is most dangerous when you are in front of it, so keep your distance or move out of its forward line. Fighting from dry land also avoids its water-based pursuit.

Save plates for the full armor set if you want its underwater bonuses, or use them to make Deepfang weapons and tools. Baby Dunkleosteus are not a source of plates.
