Muttonbound Griffin

Quickstart

1. Find the Muttonbound Griffin Spawn Egg in the Spawn Eggs creative tab, or use /give @s muttonbound-griffin-c3p5sxpq:muttonbound_griffin_c3p5sxpq_spawn_egg to obtain one in survival testing.
2. Right-click the egg on the ground to spawn a Muttonbound Griffin.
3. Hold Raw Mutton and right-click the griffin repeatedly until hearts appear — it is now tamed and bonded to you.
4. Right-click the tamed griffin (empty-handed, as its owner) to mount it. Steer with your look direction and movement keys; press Jump to ascend.

Overview

The Muttonbound Griffin is a large, majestic creature you can tame, ride, and fight alongside. Once bonded to you through raw mutton, it becomes a loyal companion — following you across the world, teleporting to your side when you wander too far, and leaping into battle against anything you attack.

How To Use

Taming

Approach a wild Muttonbound Griffin and right-click it while holding Raw Mutton. Each piece of mutton gives roughly a 1-in-3 chance of taming. Smoke particles mean the attempt failed; heart particles mean success. Keep feeding until the griffin bonds to you.

Riding

Right-click your tamed griffin to mount it. Only one rider can be seated at a time.

• Move forward/backward/strafe — standard movement keys steer the griffin
• Look direction — the griffin follows where you look, letting you aim flight
• Jump — while airborne, press jump to ascend
• Gliding — when you stop ascending mid-air, the griffin glides slowly downward rather than dropping straight

Dismount with the standard sneak key.

Combat Assist

Whenever you hit a living creature, any tamed Muttonbound Griffin owned by you within 32 blocks will automatically engage that target. You do not need to be riding the griffin for this to work.

Loyalty Behaviors

• The tamed griffin follows you as you explore.
• If you move far enough away, it teleports to your side automatically.
• It will not attack you or other players; its aggression is directed by your attacks and by anything that hurts it.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Flight & Glide — The griffin becomes airborne freely while ridden. Ascending costs active jump input; releasing results in a gentle glide sink rather than a hard fall.
• Auto-attack — The griffin joins fights the moment you land a hit on any living entity nearby.
• Teleport — Straying too far from your griffin causes it to teleport directly to you, ensuring it never gets lost.

Progression And Strategy

• Stockpile Raw Mutton before seeking out a griffin — taming can take several attempts.
• Once tamed, the griffin is an extremely durable frontline fighter with 60 HP and strong attacks. Send it ahead by attacking targets first, then let it finish the fight.
• Use the gliding mechanic for safe long-distance descents — you can take off from heights and coast down without fall damage concerns.
• Because only one player can ride at a time and the griffin fights for its single owner, it serves best as a personal mount and bodyguard rather than a group vehicle.
• Keep Raw Mutton handy during early taming attempts; the 1-in-3 success rate means you should expect to use several pieces before bonding is complete.
