    Description:

This mod overhauls Backrooms exit placement and Level 2 second-floor behavior: generated Level 2 exits are now placed exclusively on the second floor, and players on that floor receive a short, refreshing Blindness effect while present; exits on other floors are more frequent to ease navigation (Level 1: 10 exits, Level 1.2: 8, Level 3: 5, Level 4: 16), and the Level 2 second floor carves accessible exit pockets decorated as Level 3 exits. It also fixes Level 2 parking-lot stair connectivity so the central ramps reliably link the first and second floors, increases Duller encounters on Level 2 via additional local spawn pressure with cooldowns and caps to avoid overwhelming you, and adds throwable splash Slowness potions to generated loot (notably in Level 2 barrels) as an escape tool. Use those splash Slowness potions by throwing them at pursuing Dullers to slow them enough to flee, and you can still use the /backrooms exit <target> command to spawn exits at your location (valid targets: overworld, level1, level1.2, level2, level3, level4); note that command-spawned Level 2-to-Level 3 exits only attach as active exits when spawned from the Level 2 second floor.

THE LIMINAL ARCHIVES — Yellow Bamboo Labyrinth

    Quickstart

    1. Craft the Yellow Bamboo Labyrinth key using the recipe below, then pick it up.
    2. With the key anywhere in your inventory, press Z (rebindable under Yellow Bamboo Labyrinth in Controls) to be teleported into the Labyrinth.
    3. Inside, find an EXIT door to escape back to the overworld — or use /backrooms exit overworld if you get truly stuck.
    4. Watch your Thirst bar (top-right of the hotbar). Drink Almond Water to restore it before it empties.

    Overview

The Yellow Bamboo Labyrinth is a procedurally generated multi-level dungeon inspired by the Backrooms. Each run drops you into a distinct level with its own visual theme, hostile creatures, navigation hazards, and loot. The goal is simple: find the EXIT door and get out alive. Harder levels have fewer exits and more dangerous monsters — but this version adds quality-of-life improvements that make navigation and escape more reliable across every level.

    What It Adds

    The Labyrinth Key

A craftable, glowing item that acts as your entry ticket. While it's in your inventory, pressing Z teleports you in. Its tooltip reminds you of the core loop:

    • Press [Z] to enter the Labyrinth
    • Find the EXIT door to escape!
    • Beware of hostile mobs…

    Levels

    LevelThemeExitsNotable Features

Level 1.2Construction scaffolding8Wider loops, construction debris
Level 2Concrete halls / parking lot8 (2nd floor only)Two floors; Dullers spawn heavily; stair ramps fixed
Level 3Pipe tunnels5Dark biome pockets; Smiler encounters
    Level 4Electrical station16Compact straight-hall grid; most exits

    Entities

Duller A tall, spine-backed hostile humanoid. It actively hunts players, deals 8 damage per hit, and has 40 HP. When it attacks it lets out a distinctive scream. Dullers spawn in elevated numbers on Level 2.

The Smiler A flat, glowing face that haunts dark pockets in Level 3. It is effectively unkillable (1 000 HP, full knockback resistance, immune to all damage). It moves extremely fast and hits hard. Its only weakness: prolonged exposure to light — keep it lit and it will eventually dissolve into white ash particles and vanish.

    How To Use

    Entering and Exiting

    • Enter: Hold the key in your inventory and press Z.
    • Exit: Walk through an EXIT door inside the Labyrinth.
    • Command shortcut: /backrooms exit <target> spawns an exit at your current position.

    Valid targets for the command: overworld · level1 · level1.2 · level2 · level3 · level4

Level 2 note: Command-spawned Level 2 → Level 3 exits only become active when you are standing on the second floor of Level 2 when you run the command.

    Thirst

A Thirst bar is displayed to the right of the standard HUD. It has 10 segments (20 units total). If you let it drain, expect penalties. Find and drink Almond Water bottles scattered through loot chests to keep it topped up.

    Splash Slowness Potions

Found primarily in Level 2 barrels. Right-click to throw them like any splash potion. Hit a pursuing Duller to apply Slowness, giving you time to break line of sight and flee. Stock up before going deep.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    Level 2 Second Floor

    • All generated EXIT doors on Level 2 are placed exclusively on the second floor.
    • While you are on the second floor, you periodically receive a brief Blindness effect — disorienting but short.
    • The second floor contains carved exit pockets decorated in a Level 3 style.
    • The central parking-lot stair ramps now reliably connect both floors, so you will no longer get stranded.

    Duller Spawn Pressure (Level 2)

Level 2 applies additional local spawn pressure for Dullers with built-in cooldowns and population caps. You will encounter them more often than on other levels, but you will not be completely overwhelmed. Use Splash Slowness Potions and the improved stair connectivity to manage encounters.

    The Smiler's Light Weakness

The Smiler only activates when it detects light (light level > 0). Once triggered it locks onto the nearest player. It cannot be damaged — your only option is to keep a light source on it until it expires (~5 seconds of light exposure) and bursts into white ash. Running is also viable given it has a 48-block follow range.

    Exit Counts by Level

Exits are more plentiful on most levels to ease navigation:

    • Level 1 — 10 exits
    • Level 1.2 — 8 exits
    • Level 2 — 8 exits (second floor only)
    • Level 3 — 5 exits
    • Level 4 — 16 exits

    Progression And Strategy

    1. Start on Level 1. It has a readable maze structure and 10 exits. Learn the layout, grab Almond Water from loot, and find the End Chest for better supplies before moving on.
    2. Stock Splash Slowness Potions before Level 2. Dullers are significantly more common there. A few thrown potions can be the difference between escape and death.
    3. On Level 2, head upstairs immediately. All exits are on the second floor. Use the central ramp stairs — they are now fixed and reliably accessible.
    4. Bring light sources into Level 3. Smilers lurk in dark pockets. Torches or other light blocks neutralize them passively; running out of light in Level 3 is extremely dangerous.
    5. Level 4 is the most exit-rich level (16 exits) but its compact straight grid can be disorienting. Use the /backrooms exit command as a last resort if navigation fails completely.
    6. Unlock advancements as milestones: "welcome to hell" (enter the Labyrinth) and "concrete halls" (reach Level 2).
