Description

The Crimson Spike Panda is a hostile panda with deep crimson fur and sharp spikes that hunts players on sight; defeating one can very rarely reward you with pieces of the Crimson Spike armor set—helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots—each having an extremely tiny 0.0001% chance to drop when killed by a player. The new Nile Panda is a blue, flying panda with iron-golem-level durability that hovers through the air and protects the world by targeting and attacking hostile monsters instead of players.

Mod Wiki

Crimson Spike Panda

Quickstart

  1. Load the add-on and enter a world with it active.
  2. Head to a Crimson Forest or Jungle biome — the Crimson Spike Panda spawns naturally in both. Alternatively, use a Crimson Spike Panda Spawn Egg from your inventory to summon one instantly.
  3. Be ready to fight: it will charge at you on sight. Defeat it for a chance at common drops, and an extremely rare shot at a piece of Crimson Spike armor.
  4. To find the peaceful guardian variant, explore Jungle or River biomes for the blue, hovering Nile Panda, or use a Nile Panda Spawn Egg.

Overview

This mod introduces two unique panda variants, each with a distinct role in the world. The Crimson Spike Panda is a dangerous predator that hunts players on sight, while the Nile Panda is a flying guardian that defends the world by hunting hostile mobs. Together they create a new layer of challenge and passive protection, plus a legendary armor set to chase.

Abilities And Mechanics

Crimson Spike Panda

  • Aggression: Immediately targets and chases any player within 32 blocks. It does not need line of sight to lock on.
  • Melee Attack: Deals 8 damage per hit and inflicts Weakness for 5 seconds on contact.
  • Area Spikes: Its body passively damages players standing within ~1.2 blocks for 2 damage every 0.5 seconds — simply being near it hurts.
  • Combat Boost: When it acquires a target, it briefly gains Strength, making it hit even harder.
  • Knockback Resistance: Has 50% knockback resistance, so it won't be easily staggered.
  • Spawn Locations: Spawns in groups of 1–2 on Netherrack in Crimson Forests at low light levels, and solo on Grass in Jungle biomes at very low light levels (light level 0–4).
  • Experience: Drops 5–10 XP when killed by a player.

Nile Panda

  • Flight: Hovers and navigates through the air, drifting between 2 and 8 blocks off the ground.
  • Guardian Role: Automatically targets all hostile mobs within 32 blocks and pursues them.
  • Combat: Deals 15 damage per hit. When it locks onto a target, it gains Resistance, making it harder to kill mid-fight.
  • Toughness: 100 health and complete knockback immunity — comparable to an Iron Golem in durability.
  • Spawn Locations: Spawns solo in Jungle and River biomes during bright conditions (light level 7–15).
  • Experience: Drops 5–10 XP when killed by a player.

Crafting And Obtaining

Common Drops (Crimson Spike Panda)

These drop every kill, with Looting increasing quantities:

DropAmountCondition
Leather1–3Always
Prismarine Crystals1–2Always
Red Dye1–3Always
Bamboo0–1Always
Bone1–2~35% chance, player kill only (improves with Looting)

Rare Armor Drops (Crimson Spike Panda)

Each piece of the Crimson Spike armor set has a 0.0001% chance to drop — independently — when you are the one to land the killing blow. Looting does not improve these drop rates. Patience and persistence are essential.

Progression And Strategy

Hunting the Crimson Spike Panda

  • Always approach with full armor and a strong sword. The area-damage spikes mean you should attack from maximum reach and retreat between strikes — never stand still next to one.
  • The Weakness debuff will reduce your own attack damage for 5 seconds after each hit, so prioritize avoiding hits altogether.
  • Use a Looting-enchanted sword to maximize common drops like leather and prismarine crystals, and to slightly improve bone drop odds.
  • For the legendary armor pieces, volume is everything. Set up a hunting route through Crimson Forests in the Nether or dark jungle biomes and expect to kill hundreds (or thousands) before a piece drops.

Repairing Crimson Spike Armor

  • All four armor pieces are repaired using Prismarine Crystals at an anvil — the same crystals that the Crimson Spike Panda itself drops. Farm the panda to maintain your gear.
  • All pieces can be enchanted with standard armor enchantments (enchantability value of 12, on par with iron armor).

Working With the Nile Panda

  • The Nile Panda is a natural ally. If hostile mobs are causing problems in a jungle or river area, the Nile Panda will engage them automatically.
  • With 100 health and full knockback immunity, a Nile Panda can hold its own against most enemies — let it tank while you deal damage.
  • Avoid harming it; it does not retaliate against players, but killing it only yields a single bamboo and wastes a powerful guardian.
