Description
Caines Staff warps reality as sanity falls, with fake EXIT doors, whispers, and water's cellar curse
Mod Wiki
sanity and abstraction!
Quickstart
- Obtain Caines Staff from the Creative inventory, or craft it at a crafting table:

-
Hold Caines Staff in your main hand and use it. Choose either Teleport to a Player or Teleport a Player to Me, then select another player.
-
To experience the sanity system, spend time away from light and activity. Your action bar displays your current sanity, light level, and noise status.
-
Keep a nearby player, animals, a jukebox, or regular block and entity interactions around you to resist the effects of isolation.
-
Avoid water. Touching water or flowing water immediately sends a non-spectator player into Spectator mode.
-
To inspect the creature, use a Whispering Eye Doppelganger Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory or run:
/summon com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:eye_doppelganger
Overview
sanity and abstraction! turns darkness and silence into escalating supernatural danger. Sanity is tracked separately for each player, begins at 100%, and is saved while you play.
As sanity falls, the game displays unsettling thoughts, changes the background music, creates false exits, produces visual glitches, and eventually transforms you into an abstracted form. Companionship, light, noise, and Caines Staff can help keep your mind stable.
What It Adds
| Content | Description |
|---|---|
| Caines Staff | Opens a player-teleport menu and protects its holder from sanity loss. |
| Sanity system | Measures how darkness, quiet, companionship, and activity affect each player. |
| Whispering Eye Doppelganger | A persistent, harmless NPC-style creature with many appearances. |
| Hallucination Exit Door | A false EXIT door that appears at critically low sanity. |
| Abstraction collapse | A blackout, eye-filled vision, and powerful ravager manifestation triggered at 0% sanity. |
| Water’s cellar curse | Sends non-spectator players into Spectator mode when they touch water. |
How To Use
Caines Staff
Hold Caines Staff in your main hand and use it to open its menu:
- Teleport to a Player — teleport yourself to another player.
- Teleport a Player to Me — bring another player to your location.
The staff only affects other players who are currently available in the world. It has no demonstrated cost or cooldown.
Caines Staff is also a sanity ward. While held in the main hand, it immediately restores sanity to 100%, removes sanity-related effects and manifestations, clears hallucinations, and restores normal music. Merely carrying it in your inventory is not enough.
For commands, the item ID is:
com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:teleport_scepter
Whispering Eye Doppelganger
The Whispering Eye Doppelganger can be spawned from its Creative spawn egg or with:
/summon com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:eye_doppelganger
It is persistent, fire immune, and does not deal damage. It has an NPC-style appearance with numerous possible visual variants and may occasionally look toward nearby players. It does not provide a loot reward.
Hallucination Exit Door
The Hallucination Exit Door is normally created automatically by the sanity system. To manually place one for a scene or experiment, use:
/summon com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:hallucination_door
A manually summoned door is only a visual entity. It has no collision and cannot be opened or used as a real exit.
Previewing the Abstraction Vision
With permission to use commands, run the following as the player who should see the effect:
/scriptevent com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:abstraction_vision on
The screen flashes white, then displays the pixel-art eye vision for about 50 seconds. Turn it off early with:
/scriptevent com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:abstraction_vision off
You can also use:
/scriptevent com_whispering_eyes_pggc5fru:abstraction_vision toggle
Abilities And Mechanics
Sanity Recovery And Loss
The action bar shows:
- Sanity — your current percentage.
- Light — an estimated light value out of 15.
- Dark or Light — whether your surroundings are unsafe or safe.
- Quiet or Loud — whether recent activity is keeping the area active.
- Hallucination messages and glitch warnings at lower sanity.
Sanity changes as follows:
| Situation | Result |
|---|---|
| Bright and active surroundings | Recover 3 sanity every 5 seconds. |
| Nearby player | Recover 4 sanity every 3 seconds. This recovery works independently of light and noise. |
| Dark surroundings only | After 30 seconds of continued exposure, lose 2 sanity every 5 seconds. |
| Quiet surroundings only | After 30 seconds of continued exposure, lose 1 sanity every 3 seconds. |
| Dark and quiet surroundings | After 30 seconds of continued exposure, lose 4 sanity every 5 seconds. |
A penalty must remain active for 30 seconds before sanity begins to fall. Returning to safe light and activity resets this exposure timer.
The area is considered active when there are nearby animals, a nearby jukebox, or recent block and entity interactions. Simply placing yourself in a brightly lit but completely silent area can still cause gradual sanity loss.
Sanity Thresholds
| Sanity | Effect |
|---|---|
| 25% or lower | The action bar cycles through thoughts such as “Exit...”, “Escape...”, and “I wanna leave.” |
| 15% or lower | Minecraft’s background music plays at a slowed pitch. |
| 10% or lower | A false Hallucination Exit Door appears about 8 blocks ahead of you. “Exit...” whispers play about every 4 seconds. |
| 5% or lower | Colored eye-like glitch particles appear around you for up to 40 seconds. |
| 1% or lower | Background music stops and the exit whispers stop. |
| 0% | You collapse and enter the abstraction sequence. |
Fake EXIT Doors
At 10% sanity or lower, a Hallucination Exit Door appears in the direction you are facing. It is deliberately non-solid and cannot provide an escape.
Walk within about 2 blocks of it to expose the illusion. The door disappears and the message “Its fake, theres no exit” appears.
Collapse And Abstracted Form
When sanity reaches 0%:
- The screen flashes white.
- A disturbing eye vision fills the display for roughly 50 seconds.
- You are heavily slowed and unable to mine normally during the blackout.
- After approximately 45 seconds, the abstracted form awakens.
In abstracted form:
- Your player becomes invisible.
- A ravager manifestation follows your position and displays a name like
[abstracted PlayerName]. - You gain Strength III.
- You gain approximately double movement speed.
- You receive powerful resistance.
- Your normal player movement and combat remain under your control.
Touching water ends the manifestation by sending you into Spectator mode.
Water’s Cellar Curse
Touching either water or flowing water with your feet or torso triggers the curse for any non-spectator player. The ravager manifestation is removed, sanity effects are cleared, and the player is placed directly into Spectator mode.
The world announces that the player has abstracted and is going to the cellar. Use a game mode command to leave Spectator mode, for example:
/gamemode survival
Progression And Strategy
- Begin in a well-lit base and keep activity nearby.
- Use torches, lanterns, glowstone, or other light sources to avoid dark conditions.
- Keep animals nearby or stay close to another player for reliable recovery.
- Use a jukebox or interact with blocks and entities periodically if you are alone.
- Watch the action bar instead of waiting for visual hallucinations to begin.
- At 25% sanity, treat the changing messages as an early warning.
- At 10% sanity, do not mistake the EXIT door for a real structure.
- At critical sanity, move toward safety before the music stops.
- Keep Caines Staff in your main hand when you need an immediate sanity reset or a player teleport.
- Avoid all water while experimenting with abstracted form, since the curse forces Spectator mode.
- Dying resets sanity to 100%, removes the mod’s temporary effects and manifestations, clears hallucinations, and restores normal music.
