What Did The Wolf See
Quickstart
- Find one in dark areas — underground caves or dim surface spots at night, in most land biomes.
- Alternatively, spawn one yourself using a Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory or a spawn command.
- Approach carefully: the wolf barks repeatedly as a warning while it closes in on you.
- When the barking stops, it will leap and attack — be ready to fight or flee.
- Throw a bone at it while it's calm to try taming it, turning it into a loyal companion.
Overview
What Did The Wolf See introduces a corrupted, wolf-like creature that stalks players in dark places. It looks and moves like an ordinary wolf, but its behavior is unsettling: it barks loudly and repeatedly as it stalks toward you, then suddenly rushes in with a leaping attack before disappearing from the fight. Despite its eerie nature, it can still be tamed, bred, and ridden like a normal wolf under the right conditions.
What It Adds
- A new hostile-capable wolf entity that spawns naturally in dark caves and dim surface areas across most land biomes (it avoids oceans, rivers, and mushroom islands).
- A distinct warning-and-lunge attack pattern: the wolf barks on a timer as it approaches, then briefly enters an aggressive state where it leaps at its target with a powerful pounce before vanishing from combat shortly after.
- Familiar wolf-like features: taming, breeding, aging from puppy to adult, and the ability to be ridden once tamed.
- A spawn egg for summoning the creature directly in Creative or testing worlds.
- Unique loot dropped when the wolf is defeated by a player.
How To Use
- Encountering it: The wolf spawns in low-light conditions, both underground and on the surface at night. It tends to appear alone or in small groups of up to two.
- The warning bark: As it stalks toward a target, the wolf barks at a steady interval. This is your cue that it has noticed you and is closing the distance — use this time to prepare, retreat, or ready your weapon.
- The lunge and vanish: Once it's ready to strike, the wolf becomes aggressive, moves faster, and performs a leaping melee attack. Shortly after this aggressive burst ends, its aggression fades and it may disappear from the encounter — do not expect it to press the fight indefinitely.
- Taming: Feed it a bone while it is calm; there's a chance it becomes tamed and will fight alongside you.
- Feeding and breeding: Once tamed, feed it meats such as chicken, beef, mutton, porkchop, rabbit, or even rotten flesh to breed two tamed wolves at full health, producing a puppy that grows into an adult over time.
- Riding: Once angered, it can be mounted by zombies as a rideable seat — keep this in mind if you see one being ridden by other hostile mobs.
- Avoiding it: It steers clear of llamas at a distance, so llamas can act as a natural deterrent.
Crafting And Obtaining
There are no crafting recipes for this mod's content. The wolf is obtained by:
- Encountering it naturally in dark biomes underground or on the surface at night.
- Using its Spawn Egg from the Creative menu or
/summon command to place one directly.
Progression And Strategy
- Treat the bark as a countdown — it tells you the wolf is approaching and gives you a window to position yourself, retreat, or set a trap before it leaps.
- Because its aggression is short-lived, surviving the initial lunge is often enough to end the encounter, though it may return to bark and lunge again.
- Taming turns this into a useful ally: a tamed wolf assists in combat, can be bred for more companions, and can be ridden once angered.
- Defeating a wild wolf can reward you with rotten flesh, bones, and occasionally rare drops tied to corrupted materials — worth hunting if you're after unique crafting ingredients.
- Keep llamas nearby if you want to discourage these wolves from approaching your camp or path.
