THE LOST SIGNAL

Quickstart

  1. Create or open a Creative world and use the following operator commands to sample the main encounters:
    • /event trigger behind_you
    • /event trigger watcher
    • /relay start
  2. For WATCHER, look directly at it with an unobstructed view for two uninterrupted seconds. Looking away resets the timer.
  3. During a RELAY session, speak normally in chat. Try questions such as:
    • hello
    • who are you
    • what is the signal
    • where are you
    • what is room 03
  4. To explore the Signal landscape directly, use /signalvoid. Return with /signalvoid return.
  5. To enter the Observation Wing immediately, use /observation enter. Leave with /observation return.
  6. Browse the Creative inventory for Signal materials and laboratory decoration. There are no crafting recipes.

Overview

THE LOST SIGNAL is a slow-burning horror experience built around sound, unexplained changes, hostile attention, and discoveries that remember what you do.

Its content is mostly personal to each player:

  • A hidden horror level grows as you spend time in the world, travel, and sleep.
  • RELAY remembers important choices across contacts.
  • Horror encounters are invulnerable manifestations rather than normal combat mobs.
  • Some events are visual or auditory only, while others can disorient you or temporarily restrict building.
  • Exploration reveals the Signal Void, the Observation Wing, and references to Room 03 and Project Hollow.

What It Adds

Signal materials

The mod provides four Signal blocks:

BlockUse
SignalThe ordinary Signal material used across the Signal landscape.
Signal PulseA slightly luminous Signal variant.
Signal StaticA rare, visually distinct Signal surface variant.
Signal FragmentFragmented Signal formations found in elevated clusters.

Signal blocks occasionally emit small particles when viewed at close range in the Signal Void.

Laboratory decoration

The Creative inventory also contains a complete abandoned-research palette:

  • Clean, worn, and damaged laboratory wall panels
  • Technical floor and worn floor panels
  • Technical ceiling panels
  • Straight, corner, vertical, junction, and ceiling cable pieces
  • Straight, corner, and wall-to-ceiling conduit pipes
  • Wall vents and ceiling service grates
  • Recessed laboratory lights
  • Control panels and research terminals
  • Observation glass and window frames
  • Damaged service panels

These blocks are primarily decorative. Cables, pipes, vents, grates, lights, control panels, and terminals are visual infrastructure rather than machines with a separate crafting or power system.

How To Use

Horror event commands

The event commands require operator permissions.

CommandResult
/event listDisplays the event identifiers recognized by the mod.
/event randomChooses a compatible encounter from Behind You and RELAY events.
/event trigger behind_youStarts a random Behind You variant.
/event trigger behind_you_classicForces the Classic variant.
/event trigger behind_you_fakeForces the Fake variant.
/event trigger behind_you_silentForces the Silent variant.
/event trigger behind_you_chaseForces the Chase variant.
/event trigger watcherSpawns WATCHER.
/event trigger watcher_spawnSpawns WATCHER.
/event trigger watcher_jumpscareSpawns WATCHER using the same gaze encounter.
/event trigger relay_contactStarts a RELAY conversation.
/event trigger relay_sightingCreates a nearby RELAY sighting if a suitable location is available.
/event trigger relay_ground_watchCreates a ground-level RELAY watch if suitable solid ground is available.

RELAY commands

CommandResult
/relay startBegins a fresh RELAY contact.
/relay stopEnds the current contact.
/relay statusShows whether RELAY is active, its remaining session time, message count, last matched topic, and current trust value.
/relay trustShows your current RELAY trust tier.

A contact normally lasts about 90 seconds. Sending messages can extend it, up to a maximum of about two minutes. RELAY may also speak without being prompted when it notices your surroundings or behavior.

Signal Void commands

CommandResult
/signalvoidTeleports you to the Signal Void and saves your current location.
/signalvoid returnReturns you to the saved location.

The Signal Void is a quiet, empty landscape made almost entirely from Signal material. Its terrain rolls gently rather than generating caves, oceans, ores, or ordinary structures. Signal Pulse, Signal Static, and Signal Fragment formations appear across the landscape.

The dimension is an exploration and story space. Breaking blocks, placing blocks, and using items there are disabled.

Observation Wing commands

CommandResult
/observation enterEnters the Observation Wing immediately.
/observation returnLeaves the Observation Wing and returns you to the saved location.

The Observation Wing is a fixed laboratory set piece with dark corridors, observation glass, cables, conduits, panels, vents, lights, terminals, and service fixtures. Breaking blocks and placing blocks are disabled inside it, but containers and story fixtures can still be inspected.

Abilities And Mechanics

Behind You

Behind You is an apparition that appears behind the player. It is not a normal enemy and cannot be defeated with weapons.

The standard command chooses one of four behaviors:

VariantBehavior
ClassicAppears behind you, slows your movement, and produces a strong warning and scare sequence when you turn and look at it.
FakeCreates a short-lived false encounter and visual presentation without the full apparition behavior.
SilentWatches from behind without the usual warning. Look directly at it to make the manifestation silently dissolve.
ChaseBegins pursuing you immediately. It does not wait for you to look at it, and it can follow ordinary grounded paths.

The Chase variant temporarily prevents breaking blocks and placing blocks. Normal interaction returns after the chase ends.

If you manually summon the entity instead of using an event command, its command ID is:

the-hollow-signal-nvyrocgd:behind_you

WATCHER

WATCHER is a stationary manifestation that prefers dark locations. It turns to face you but does not navigate, attack, or wander.

To trigger it:

  1. Stand where you can see it.
  2. Aim directly at its body.
  3. Keep your crosshair on it for two full seconds.
  4. Maintain an unobstructed line of sight.

Any interruption resets the gaze timer. Once the timer completes, WATCHER performs its short jumpscare and disappears.

Its summon ID is:

the-hollow-signal-nvyrocgd:watcher

RELAY conversations

RELAY appears through chat as <RELAY>. It is not a normal player and does not require an item or workstation.

During a contact:

  • Ask about the Signal, the Hollow, the facility, the researchers, Room 03, or the Observation Wing.
  • Ask personal questions such as whether RELAY is real, watching you, or dangerous.
  • Try direct requests such as show me where you are.
  • Answer RELAY's questions with yes, no, maybe, or phrases such as I trust you.
  • Expect delayed replies rather than instant responses.
  • Be prepared for unsolicited comments about darkness, caves, sprinting, sleep, rain, your health, and where you are looking.

RELAY recognizes many different phrasings, not just one exact question. Repeating the same subject too often can produce a hostile response or cause RELAY to stop answering that subject for the rest of the contact.

RELAY can remember choices such as trust, distrust, fear, friendship, willingness to help, and interest in Room 03. These memories affect later conversations.

RELAY location reveal

Asking RELAY where it is can sometimes cause a location reveal:

  1. RELAY answers that it will show you.
  2. You are taken to the Signal Void.
  3. RELAY appears at a distance across the Signal landscape.
  4. After a short reveal, you return to your previous position.

The reveal is temporary, and you cannot build or mine while in the Signal Void.

Ambient anomalies

As your hidden horror level rises, ordinary activities become less reliable. Spending time in the world, traveling, sleeping, and waking can increase exposure.

After enough exposure, waking from sleep may cause:

  • Radio static
  • A warped cave sound
  • Sudden disorientation
  • A change in facing
  • Footsteps behind you

Other encounters use nearby sounds, darkness, temporary visual changes, falling ash or spores, unusual doors, chest sounds, signal echoes, and fragment-like messages. Listen for changes in the environment instead of relying only on what you can see.

Observation Wing

The Observation Wing can be reached in two ways:

  • Use /observation enter for immediate access.
  • With RELAY trust at the Open tier or higher, interact with ordinary doors in the Overworld. Some doors may lead into the Wing instead of opening normally.

Inside the Wing:

  • Darkness continually affects the atmosphere.
  • Weather, daylight, and ordinary mob spawning are disabled.
  • The laboratory layout is fixed.
  • Block breaking and block placement are disabled.
  • Chests and story fixtures remain usable.
  • A story chest contains a written book titled To R, authored by L.

The Wing is designed to be examined rather than renovated. Read the book, inspect the glass and service corridors, and pay attention to the relationship between the rooms and RELAY's comments.

Crafting And Obtaining

There are no crafting recipes in THE LOST SIGNAL.

Creative inventory

All Signal blocks and laboratory decoration blocks can be taken from the Creative inventory and placed in ordinary worlds. They can be used to build your own laboratories, relay rooms, observation chambers, or Signal installations.

Commands

The horror entities are best experienced through the event commands:

  • /event trigger behind_you
  • /event trigger watcher
  • /event trigger relay_contact

The entity summon IDs are:

  • the-hollow-signal-nvyrocgd:behind_you
  • the-hollow-signal-nvyrocgd:watcher
  • the-hollow-signal-nvyrocgd:relay

RELAY is normally encountered through /relay start or an event trigger rather than as a conventional mob.

Progression And Strategy

  • Let time pass and explore instead of triggering every encounter at once. The mod is designed to build tension gradually.
  • Sleep when you want to advance the experience, but expect waking to become less predictable as exposure grows.
  • During RELAY contacts, vary your questions and remember what you have already told it.
  • Trust is persistent. Honest, helpful, or friendly responses can improve it, while distrust and accusations can reduce it.
  • Revisit areas connected to the Observation Wing and Room 03. RELAY reacts when you approach significant rooms.
  • Reaching the Open RELAY trust tier enables the Observation Wing's door-based entry chance.
  • In the Signal Void, examine the differences between ordinary Signal, Pulse, Static, and Fragment formations.
  • When Behind You appears, turning around is part of the encounter. When WATCHER appears, keeping your gaze steady is the test.
  • The manifestations are invulnerable and are not intended to be fought. Listen, observe, and use the return commands when you are finished exploring a dimension.
