Ore Buzzer
Quickstart
- Find an Ore Buzzer buzzing around the Overworld (or in snowy taiga biomes for the winter variant), or use its Spawn Egg found in the Spawn Eggs creative tab.
- Hold any taming item — raw iron, redstone dust, lapis lazuli, emerald, a gold nugget, or a honey bottle — and right-click the Ore Buzzer repeatedly until it bonds with you.
- Once tamed, right-click it again to mount it, then fly freely in any direction using standard movement controls.
- Let it do the work: it will buzz and flash when it detects an ore within 8 blocks, then fly toward it automatically.
Overview
The Ore Buzzer is a bee-like flying companion that doubles as an ore-finding tool and a combat ally. Its obsidian-dark body is marked with glowing redstone, diamond, and emerald patterns. Once tamed, it becomes a fully rideable flying mount that also guards you by shooting poison arrows at nearby hostile mobs.
What It Adds
- Ore Buzzer — a tameable, rideable flying mob that detects ores and defends its owner.
- Taiga Winter Variant — a special Ore Buzzer with a snow-white body and gold/redstone accents that spawns exclusively in snowy taiga biomes.
- Ore Buzzer Spawn Egg — available in the Spawn Eggs creative tab.
How To Use
Finding One
Ore Buzzers spawn naturally throughout the Overworld. The Taiga Winter Variant spawns only in snowy taiga biomes and has a distinctive white, frost-covered appearance. Its winter look is stored permanently — your snowy buzzer stays frosty wherever you take it.
Taming
Stand near an Ore Buzzer and right-click it while holding one of the following items:
Taming Item
---
Raw Iron
Redstone Dust
Lapis Lazuli
Emerald
Gold Nugget
Honey Bottle
Feed it repeatedly until it bonds with you. Once tamed, it will follow and protect you.
Riding
Right-click your tamed Ore Buzzer to mount it. Use standard movement keys to fly in any direction, including straight up and down. Dismount by pressing the sneak key.
Abilities And Mechanics
Ore Detection
The Ore Buzzer continuously scans for ore blocks within roughly 8 blocks. When it finds one, it:
- Buzzes audibly with its detection sound.
- Flashes visually to signal a find.
- Flies toward the ore autonomously until the block is mined.
It detects all common ore types, including coal, iron, gold, diamond, emerald, redstone, lapis lazuli, copper, and their deepslate variants.
Combat
When a hostile mob comes within 15 blocks, the Ore Buzzer fires arrows at it every 2 seconds. These arrows inflict Poison on the target, making your buzzer a meaningful defensive companion even while you're mining.
Sounds
All Ore Buzzer sounds — buzzing, taming responses, and attack sounds — play at half volume, so it's a helpful companion without being overwhelming.

Progression And Strategy
- Early game: Taming is easy — raw iron and redstone dust are among the cheapest taming items. Get one early and let it ping nearby ores while you explore caves.
- Scanning routine: The Ore Buzzer scans every 2 seconds, so stay near suspicious walls or floors and wait briefly for it to react.
- Combat support: Because it targets hostile mobs automatically and poisons them, it's especially useful in dark caves where creepers and skeletons lurk near your mining sites.
- Winter Variant: Functionally identical to the standard Ore Buzzer, but its snowy appearance is preserved regardless of biome — a cosmetic trophy for players who seek it out in snowy taiga.
- Riding for exploration: Mount your buzzer to scout terrain quickly, then dismount and let it hunt for ores once you've found a promising area.
