Ore Buzzer
Quickstart
- Find an Ore Buzzer spawning naturally in the Overworld, or use its spawn egg (found in the Spawn Eggs creative tab).
- Hold one of the taming items — raw iron, redstone dust, lapis lazuli, an emerald, a gold nugget, or a honey bottle — and right-click the Ore Buzzer repeatedly until it bonds with you.
- Once tamed, right-click it to mount and fly freely in any direction using your normal movement keys.
- Head underground — your Ore Buzzer will buzz and flash whenever it detects ore within about 8 blocks, then fly toward it to mark the spot.
Overview
The Ore Buzzer is a rideable, bee-like companion mob that acts as a living ore detector. Its obsidian-dark body is marked with glowing ore patterns — redstone, diamond, and emerald — making it visually distinctive underground. Once tamed, it serves a dual purpose: guiding you to nearby ore deposits and defending you from hostile mobs.
What It Adds
- Ore Buzzer — a tameable, rideable flying mob that spawns in the Overworld in groups of 1–6.
- Ore Buzzer Spawn Egg — available in the Spawn Eggs creative tab for manual spawning.
How To Use
Taming
Approach a wild Ore Buzzer and right-click it while holding any of the following items:
Taming Item
---
Raw Iron
Redstone Dust
Lapis Lazuli
Emerald
Gold Nugget
Honey Bottle
You may need to feed it several items before it bonds with you. Once tamed, it will follow and obey you.
Riding
Right-click your tamed Ore Buzzer to mount it. Use your standard movement keys to fly in any direction, including straight up or down. The Ore Buzzer uses bird-style navigation and can fly through open spaces freely.
Ore Detection
Whether you are riding it or it is following you on foot, the Ore Buzzer automatically scans for ore blocks within roughly 8 blocks every couple of seconds. When it finds ore, it:
- Flashes visually for a few seconds.
- Plays a distinctive buzz sound to alert you.
- Flies toward the ore block and remains locked onto it until that block is mined.
It detects all common ore types, including both standard and deepslate variants (coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli, diamond, and emerald ores, among others).
Combat
Your tamed Ore Buzzer automatically targets nearby hostile mobs. It fires poison-tipped arrows at enemies within 15 blocks, shooting roughly once every 2 seconds. This makes it a useful escort while mining in dangerous areas.
Abilities And Mechanics
| Attribute | Value |
---
| Max Health | 30 HP (15 hearts) |

- Arrows are only fired at hostile mobs within 15 blocks.
- Ore detection scans once every ~2 seconds; the buzzing and flashing alert lasts about 3 seconds per detection.
- While you are riding the Ore Buzzer, it will not hover autonomously — you have full directional control.
Progression And Strategy
- Early game: Taming is accessible from the start — raw iron and redstone dust are among the easiest taming items to obtain.
- Underground exploration: Mount your Ore Buzzer and fly slowly through cave systems. Its ore detection will trigger frequently, letting you pinpoint veins you might otherwise walk past.
- Combat safety: The poison arrows mean your companion is genuinely useful against cave spiders, zombies, and other underground threats — not just a passive mount.
- Efficiency tip: Dismount near a detected ore block so the Ore Buzzer can continue scanning while you mine, maximizing detection coverage.
