    Description:

Coalspike Barrens is a harsh new Overworld biome of stark stone where jagged cobblestone and stone spikes — up to 30 blocks high — rise from the ground; giant towers are a bit rarer while shorter multi-block spikes are noticeably more common, and spike columns are always supported down to nearby solid ground so they stay connected across slopes and pits (single-block pillars are absent). The surface and near-subsurface are solid stone with abundant coal (including larger and deepslate veins) and dramatic pits, plus vanilla-rate copper veins underground; when ore generates there is a rare 0.8% chance for a coal ore or a copper ore placement to instead be a Block of Coal or a Raw Copper Block respectively. There is no vegetation or passive wildlife, so come prepared with food, wood, and careful footing — this biome is excellent for coal harvesting but hazardous to traverse, simply find it in the Overworld to begin exploring.

    Coalspike Barrens

    Quickstart

    1. Create or load a world with the mod installed.
    2. Explore the Overworld until you find the Coalspike Barrens biome — a bleak, stone-covered landscape bristling with jagged spikes.
    3. Bring food, wood, torches, and a pickaxe before you go; the biome has no trees, crops, or passive animals.
    4. Mine the exposed stone surface and the spike formations for huge amounts of coal ore and deepslate coal ore. Keep an eye out for rare solid Blocks of Coal or Raw Copper Blocks embedded in the terrain as lucky ore replacements.
    5. Watch your footing — dramatic open pits drop into the ground without warning.

    Overview

Coalspike Barrens adds a single, hostile new Overworld biome made entirely of bare stone. The surface is stripped of all soil, grass, and vegetation, replaced by solid stone that continues deep underground. Towering cobblestone and stone spikes — some reaching nearly 30 blocks into the air — erupt from the ground alongside dramatic open pits. It is one of the richest coal biomes in the Overworld, but its unforgiving terrain demands preparation.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    Stone Spikes

The biome's defining visual feature is its spike formations. There are two main sizes:

    • Giant towers — rarer formations up to ~30 blocks tall with a wide tapered base.
    • Short multi-block spikes — more common, ranging from about 5 to 11 blocks tall.

Every spike column is anchored to the nearest solid ground below it, so spikes remain visually connected even across slopes and over pits. Single-block pillars do not appear. Pits occur occasionally and may be surrounded by both large and small spikes of their own.

    Ore Generation

The surface and near-subsurface consist of solid stone, providing a generous host for ore generation:

    • Coal ore spawns in notably large veins, including deepslate coal ore at lower elevations.
    • Copper ore spawns at standard vanilla rates underground.

    Bonus Ore Blocks

When any coal ore or copper ore placement is generated, there is roughly a 1-in-125 (~0.8%) chance that the ore is replaced by its bulk block form instead:

    Normal oreRare bonus replacement
Coal Ore / Deepslate Coal OreBlock of Coal
Copper Ore / Deepslate Copper OreRaw Copper Block

These bonus blocks appear embedded directly in the terrain and can be mined like any other block. A Block of Coal yields 9 coal when crafted back in a crafting table; a Raw Copper Block yields 9 raw copper.

    No Natural Sustenance

The Coalspike Barrens spawns no passive animals, no crops, no grass, and no trees. Players cannot forage or farm on-site. Hostile mobs still spawn at night on the stone surface and inside the pits.

    Progression And Strategy

    • Prepare before you arrive. Pack a full supply of food, wood for tools and torches, and armour. You cannot resupply inside the biome.
    • Coal first. The biome is exceptional for coal farming — fuel, torches, and trading stock can all be stocked up quickly with a good pickaxe.
    • Watch for bonus blocks. Blocks of Coal and Raw Copper Blocks are rare but highly visible if you know what to look for; each one is worth pausing to mine.
    • Use the pits carefully. Pits give natural access to deeper stone layers and ore without digging, but falls are deadly. Bring a water bucket or feather falling boots.
    • Spike-top vantage points. Climbing a giant tower gives a broad view of the surrounding terrain, making it easier to spot pit edges and plan a safe route.
    • Set up a base nearby. Because the biome offers no wood or food, establishing a camp at the biome's edge in a neighbouring forested biome lets you make repeated mining runs safely.

Meet the Starlight Jellybean Chicken, a magical creature that looks like a wobbly pastel jellybean with a glossy sugar shell, tiny licorice legs, a bubblegum beak, and glowing candy pearl eyes. This enchanting chicken glides silently through the night sky, laying shimmering star eggs under the moonlight and granting nearby players the ability to fall slowly. When phantoms threaten the area, it summons a protective ring of starlight to repel them, and when defeated, it drops various magical resources like sugar, glowstone dust, and golden carrots.

The Storm King adds a one-time giant floating boss that spawns near the first player two minutes after they join a world, shows a boss bar, and records that it has appeared so it only spawns once per world. In combat the Storm King strikes with lightning and summons hostile Thunder Wolves, and at 50% health it becomes enraged—changing its boss bar color, attacking faster, summoning more wolves, and dealing stronger lightning damage. Defeating it drops the Crown of Tempests, which lets the wearer fly while it is raining (flight is revoked when the rain stops or the crown is no longer carried), and the mod includes custom visuals and renderers for the Storm King, Thunder Wolves, and the crown.
