Blue Ember Wisp
Quickstart
- Find a Blue Ember Wisp at night — look for dark-blue glow particles and small blue flames drifting through Plains, Forest, or Dark Forest biomes, or deep underground in Lush Caves, Dripstone Caves, or the Deep Dark. They also spawn in the Nether in pairs.
- Hold coal or charcoal in your hand and right-click the wisp to tame it. In Survival the coal is consumed.
- Once tamed, right-click the wisp again (empty hand) to toggle between sitting (stationary guard mode) and following you.
- With the wisp following you, right-click it while holding a raw ore (e.g. Raw Iron, Raw Gold) to start a 10-second refining cycle — it returns the smelted ingot when done.
Overview
Blue Ember Wisp adds small invisible-bodied nocturnal spirits to your world. They emit dark-blue light, soul-fire particles, and ethereal flames wherever they drift. Wisps can be tamed into loyal companions that fight for you, light your path, and even smelt your raw ores on the fly. Wild wisps are not passive either — they naturally hunt Blazes and Wither Skeletons.

How To Use
Taming
Hold coal or charcoal and right-click a wild wisp. Success is confirmed by a message and the coal is consumed in Survival mode.
Sitting / Following
Right-click your tamed wisp with an empty hand to switch modes:
- Following — the wisp orbits you, teleports to keep up if you move far, and places an invisible Blue Wisp Light block near itself for ambient illumination.
- Sitting — the wisp stays in place, acts as a stationary guard, and scans a 10-block radius for threats.
Ore Refining
Right-click your wisp while holding any raw ore item. It absorbs the ore and begins a 10-second refining cycle, then hands the resulting ingot back to you. If you are offline when the cycle completes, the ingot is dropped near the wisp instead. The wisp can only refine one ore at a time — trying to give it another while busy will prompt a busy message.
Healing Your Wisp
- Tamed wisp: Drop coal or charcoal on the ground near an injured tamed wisp. It will pick up the item and recover health.
- Wild wisp: A wounded wild wisp will seek out nearby coal ore, mine it, and consume the harvested coal to heal itself.
Regeneration Aura
Give a tamed wisp a Potion of Regeneration (right-click it with the potion). The potion is consumed and the wisp radiates a glowing red aura for 2 seconds, emitting a burst sound. This has a 60-second cooldown per wisp, tracked and saved across sessions. To reset the cooldown early, give the wisp 10 Blaze Powder.
Abilities And Mechanics
Wild Wisps
- Naturally hostile toward Blazes and Wither Skeletons, attacking them on sight within 18 blocks.
- Wild wisps do not attack players — their fireballs cannot hit you while they remain untamed.
- Wounded wild wisps seek nearby coal ore, mine it, and consume the coal to self-heal.
Tamed Wisps
- Receive a permanent Regeneration I effect (server-side), meaning they slowly heal over time.
- Have 20% bonus maximum health compared to wild wisps.
- When sitting, they scan a 10-block radius and fire Blue Ember Fireballs at any hostile mobs threatening their owner.
- When following, they orbit the player and provide a moving invisible light source.
- Their fireballs deal 6 damage, set targets on fire for 2 seconds, and apply Levitation briefly.
Blue Wisp Light
An invisible, intangible light block automatically placed by wisps as they move. It cannot be collected or broken by players. It removes itself automatically if no wisp is nearby.
Progression And Strategy
- Early game: Tame a wisp in the Plains or Forest on your first night. Even without upgrades, the orbiting light source alone is highly valuable for exploration.
- Mining aid: Carry raw ores and right-click your wisp during travel — smelt on the go without a furnace.
- Cave and Nether exploration: Wisps spawn in Lush Caves, Dripstone Caves, Deep Dark, and the Nether. Taming one underground gives you immediate fire support against Blazes and Wither Skeletons.
- Base defense: Park your tamed wisp in sitting mode at a key location. It will independently shoot fireballs at any nearby hostiles, dealing damage, fire, and Levitation simultaneously.
- Regeneration burst: Keep Potions of Regeneration on hand for tough fights — gifting one to your wisp gives a visible aura burst. Stockpile Blaze Powder (10 per reset) if you want to bypass the 60-second cooldown frequently.
- Coal supply: Keep a steady supply of coal or charcoal when adventuring with a tamed wisp — both for refining and to keep your companion's health topped up if it takes damage.
