Catalyst Astrolabe

Quickstart

1. Craft a Meridian Astrolabe using .
2. Craft one of the catalyst items:
   • (Emerald Carrot)
   • (Netherite Bone)
   • (Diamond Nugget)
3. Hold the Astrolabe in your main hand and place a catalyst in your off-hand.
4. Right-click (use item) to tune the Astrolabe — it will lock its needle onto the nearest matching structure and tell you its coordinates in chat.
5. Follow the needle like a normal compass to walk toward the discovered location.

Overview

The Meridian Astrolabe is a magical compass-like tool that can be attuned to different points of interest depending on what catalyst item you feed it. Instead of always pointing to your world spawn or a lodestone, it searches the world around you for a specific type of structure and locks its needle onto the closest one it finds.

What It Adds

• Meridian Astrolabe — the main tool, crafted from gold, copper, and a compass.
• Emerald Carrot — a catalyst item, crafted from an emerald and a carrot.
• Netherite Bone — a catalyst item, crafted from a netherite ingot and a bone.
• Diamond Nugget — a catalyst item, crafted from a diamond and raw iron.

All four items appear in their own creative inventory tab.

How To Use

• Equip the Meridian Astrolabe in your main hand.
• Place any catalyst item in your off-hand while holding the Astrolabe.
• Use the item (right-click) to tune it. This consumes a search action and locks the needle to the nearest structure associated with that catalyst, searching out to a range of roughly 4000 blocks.
• If a matching structure is found, the Astrolabe reports the type and X/Z coordinates in chat, and the needle will now point toward that location like a normal compass, no matter how far you travel.
• If nothing suitable is found within range, the needle spins erratically and the chat message tells you the search radius that was checked.
• If you try to tune the Astrolabe without a catalyst in your off-hand, it will remind you that a catalyst is required.
• Swapping in a different catalyst and using the Astrolabe again re-tunes it to a new target.

Each catalyst tunes the Astrolabe to search for a different category of location:

Catalysts are only consumed by being held, not used up when tuning the Astrolabe — keep them in your inventory to re-tune whenever you want a new destination. Only one catalyst effect is active at a time, based on whatever you last used to tune the Astrolabe.

Progression And Strategy

• Use the Emerald Carrot early on to quickly locate villages for trading, beds, and food.
• Once better geared, switch to the Diamond Nugget to track down mineshafts for loot and rails.
• Save the Netherite Bone for when you're ready to take on tougher late-game structures like ancient cities and strongholds.
• Because the search radius is large but not infinite, you may need to travel and re-tune the Astrolabe periodically if no structure is found nearby.
• Carrying all three catalysts lets you swap targets on the fly, making the Astrolabe a flexible all-purpose exploration compass.
