Stygian Shadowcleaver

Quickstart

1. Craft the Stygian Shadowcleaver at a crafting table:

1. Equip it in your main hand or off-hand.
2. Break a log block with the cleaver. It automatically cuts the connected vertical logs directly above the block you break, up to 128 additional logs.
3. Use it as a powerful netherite-tier axe for combat and ordinary woodcutting.

The recipe is provided to players automatically when they join the world. In Creative mode, it is also available in the Tools item group.

Overview

The Stygian Shadowcleaver is a single, unstackable axe with a permanent shadowy glint. Its defining ability is rapid vertical tree cutting: after you break a log, it continues breaking connected log blocks immediately above it.

While held in your main hand or off-hand, the cleaver releases dark dragon-breath particles around the player. Cutting multiple logs also produces an ominous teleport sound.

How To Use

Chopping Trees

Hold the Stygian Shadowcleaver and break a log normally. The cleaver then checks upward from the broken block:

• Connected log blocks directly above are broken automatically.
• The effect stops when the next block is not a log.
• Up to 128 additional logs can be cut from one activation.
• Only the vertical connected trunk above the block you break is targeted; separate branches are not automatically cleared.
• Automatically broken logs drop their normal items.

For the most reliable result, start at the bottom of a vertical trunk and work upward.

Combat And Normal Axe Use

The Shadowcleaver functions as an axe in addition to its tree-cutting ability. Use it for ordinary axe interactions and melee attacks. There is no separate button or charge-up required to activate its log-cutting power.

Visual And Audio Effects

When the cleaver is held in either hand, dragon-breath particles appear around the player. When its tree-cutting effect breaks additional logs, it plays an ominous teleport sound at the tree.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Stygian Shadowcleaver using:

• 1 Nether Star
• 2 Crying Obsidian
• 1 Netherite Axe
• 1 Blaze Rod

The finished item cannot be stacked. In Creative mode, find it in the Tools item group.

Abilities And Mechanics

Vertical Tree Cleaving

The cleaver activates when it successfully mines a block recognized as a log. It breaks the connected log column above the starting block, stopping at the first non-log block or after reaching the 128-log limit.

The initial log is mined normally, while each additional log broken by the ability also contributes to the tool's wear.

Tool Effects

The Shadowcleaver always displays a glint, even without an enchantment. Its special appearance and held particles are cosmetic effects; the practical gameplay ability is its automatic vertical log cutting.

Progression And Strategy

• Gather Nether materials before attempting the recipe, especially the Nether Star and Netherite Axe.
• Craft the cleaver once you regularly harvest large amounts of wood.
• Begin at the lowest accessible trunk log to clear the greatest continuous section.
• Watch the tool's durability when cutting tall trees, since every automatically broken log uses additional durability.
• Keep the cleaver in your off-hand when using another tool, if you want its held particle effect without placing it in your main hand.
