Wield the Emberlight Totem to unleash a blazing ring that scorches nearby mobs and blasts them away in Minecraft 1.20.1.
Mod Wiki
Emberlight Totem
Quickstart
- Craft the Bond of Flame using the recipe below, or find it in the Combat creative inventory.
- Hold it in your main hand and use your normal attack button to release a blazing ring around yourself. Nearby hostile mobs are set on fire and blasted outward.
- Keep it in either hand for continuous fire protection, night vision, and a powerful emergency safeguard.
- Try it near groups of hostile mobs, in lava, or in the Nether to experience its full range of abilities.

Overview
The Emberlight Totem adds a single powerful combat item: the Bond of Flame. It combines a close-range flame burst, enhanced melee attacks, fire immunity, and a reusable death-prevention effect.
The item can be held in either hand and does not stack beyond one item.
What It Adds
- Blazing ring: Activated by attacking while the Bond of Flame is in your main hand.
- Flame-enhanced melee: Direct attacks with the item deal additional fire damage and ignite hostile mobs.
- Fire immunity: The holder cannot take fire damage or be set on fire.
- Night vision: Holding the item grants night vision.
- Death ward: Prevents a fatal hit and retaliates with a forward flame wall.
- Reduced flame fog: Lava and Nether fog become much less obstructive while carrying the item.
How To Use
Release the Flame Ring
Hold the Bond of Flame in your main hand, then attack. A ring of flame forms around you at roughly four blocks away.
Hostile mobs within about five blocks are:
- Set on fire for several seconds.
- Knocked away from you.
- Lifted slightly into the air.
The ring affects hostile mobs around you rather than peaceful creatures or animals. The attack action can also strike a target normally.
The Bond must be in the main hand for this ability. Holding it only in the off-hand does not trigger the ring when you attack with another item.
Enhance Direct Attacks
With the Bond of Flame in either hand, direct melee attacks against hostile mobs also:
- Deal an additional burst of fire damage.
- Ignite the target for several seconds.
This effect applies to direct player attacks, not player-owned projectiles.
Carry the Bond
Place the item in your main hand or off-hand to gain its passive protection. While carrying it, you are:
- Immune to fire damage.
- Unable to catch fire.
- Granted continuously refreshed night vision.
- Able to see through most of the usual lava and Nether fog.
The passive effects work while the item is held; carrying it elsewhere in your inventory is not enough.
Abilities And Mechanics
Death Ward
If you are carrying the Bond of Flame in either hand when you would die, it activates instead of being consumed. It:
- Restores you to one health point.
- Clears your existing status effects.
- Grants strong regeneration.
- Grants absorption hearts.
- Grants fire resistance.
- Releases a flame wall in the direction you are facing.
The Bond of Flame remains in your hand and can protect you again later.
Flame Wall
The emergency flame wall extends forward from the bearer for up to about seven blocks. Hostile mobs caught in its roughly five-block-wide path take fire damage, burn briefly, and are blasted forward.
Face the direction in which you want the wall to travel before the death ward activates. The flame wall is separate from the normal flame ring and only appears when the Bond prevents fatal damage.
Crafting And Obtaining
The Bond of Flame requires:
- Blaze powder
- A golden apple
- Magma cream
- A totem of undying
- A fire charge
The recipe is made available after entering a world. In Creative mode, the item is also listed in the Combat inventory tab.
Progression And Strategy
- Keep the Bond in your off-hand when using a different main-hand weapon. You still receive fire immunity, night vision, and the death ward, but the flame ring will not activate.
- Use the main-hand attack to push groups of hostile mobs away before they surround you.
- Face a dangerous group before relying on the death ward so the retaliating flame wall travels through the largest number of enemies.
- The item is especially useful in the Nether and around lava, where its fire immunity and reduced fog make exploration safer.
- Because the death ward does not consume the item, the Bond of Flame is a permanent emergency tool as long as you keep it in one of your hands.
