Straddler

Quickstart

1. Travel to the Basalt Deltas in the Nether and look for groups of Straddlers and Stradpoles.
2. In Creative mode, use the Straddler Spawn Egg or Stradpole Spawn Egg to place them immediately.
3. To summon them with commands, use:
   • /summon com_straddler_27zgeejr:mystrider
   • /summon com_straddler_27zgeejr:stradpole
4. Give an adult Straddler a saddle, then interact with it to mount. Hold a warped fungus on a stick while riding to steer it.
5. Use warped fungus to breed Straddlers. Use tropical fish buckets to breed Stradpoles.

Overview

Straddler adds a powerful blue lava-dwelling mount and its aquatic young, the Stradpole.

• Straddler: A 50-health Nether creature that thrives around lava, attacks players with arrows, and can be saddled and ridden.
• Stradpole: A smaller, amphibious creature with 14 health. It swims, walks on land, attacks certain aquatic mobs, and grows into an adult after being raised.

Both mobs spawn naturally in the Basalt Deltas.

What It Adds

Naturally spawned Straddlers appear as adults or babies. Some adult groups can generate with a zombie pigman rider or with a baby Straddler riding on top.

Naturally spawned Stradpoles can have cyan, gold, lucy, or wild appearances. Breeding can very rarely produce a blue variant.

How To Use

Finding and spawning

Straddlers spawn in groups of two to four in the Basalt Deltas, with adults and babies appearing naturally. Stradpoles also spawn in groups of two to four on the surface of basalt in the Basalt Deltas.

Both mobs can be spawned using their spawn eggs or with the summon commands listed in Quickstart.

Riding a Straddler

1. Find an adult Straddler.
2. Interact with it while holding a saddle.
3. Interact with the saddled Straddler to mount it.
4. Hold a warped fungus on a stick to control its movement.

A Straddler has one rider seat. Crouching prevents the normal mount interaction.

While riding:

• The Straddler can walk across and through lava.
• The warped fungus on a stick steers the mount.
• Use the boost action with the warped fungus on a stick for a temporary speed burst. The item loses one durability when used.

Removing a saddle

To remove a saddle from an adult Straddler:

1. Make sure nobody is riding it.
2. Hold shears.
3. Interact with the Straddler without crouching.

The saddle is returned, and the shears lose one durability.

Crafting And Obtaining

No crafting recipes are provided for the mod's mobs or spawn eggs.

You can obtain Straddlers and Stradpoles by:

• Finding them in the Basalt Deltas.
• Using their spawn eggs in Creative mode.
• Summoning them with commands.

Adult Straddlers drop 2–5 string when killed. A player-killed adult has a small chance to drop magma cream. A saddled adult also drops its saddle.

Abilities And Mechanics

Straddler

• Has 50 health.
• Is immune to fire and suited to lava travel.
• Moves faster in lava than on land.
• Searches for nearby lava and avoids water.
• Takes damage when in contact with water.
• Retaliates against players with arrows from up to 16 blocks away.
• Can be tempted with warped fungus or a warped fungus on a stick.
• Can be leashed.

Keep Straddlers away from water and provide lava or dry basalt paths when building an enclosure.

Straddler breeding and growth

Feed two adult Straddlers warped fungus to breed them. The baby follows its parent and grows into an adult over time. Feeding warped fungus to a baby helps raise it.

Stradpole

• Has 14 health.
• Can breathe in both water and air.
• Can swim and walk on land.
• Attacks nearby fish, squid, tadpoles, drowned, guardians, and elder guardians.
• Deals 2 damage with its attack.
• May play dead when badly hurt while in water, then recover with regeneration.
• Can be leashed.
• Is vulnerable to lightning.

Stradpoles begin drying out when away from water. Rain or returning to water interrupts the drying process, but a Stradpole left away from moisture can eventually begin taking damage. Stradpoles also have a water-contact damage behavior, so monitor their health when keeping them in an enclosure.

Stradpole breeding and growth

Feed two adult Stradpoles tropical fish buckets to breed them. Each bucket is converted into a water bucket after feeding.

A baby Stradpole grows into an adult over time. Feed it additional tropical fish buckets to help it grow.

Progression And Strategy

• Explore the Basalt Deltas with a saddle and warped fungus on a stick ready for a potential Straddler mount.
• Build lava-safe routes for Straddlers, since water damages them.
• Protect Stradpoles from drying out by using water, rain, or a carefully managed enclosure.
• Breed Straddlers with warped fungus to create a renewable supply of adults and mounts.
• Breed Stradpoles to raise a population and try for the exceptionally rare blue variant.
• Use shears instead of killing a saddled Straddler when you only need to recover its saddle.
