Quickstart

1. Craft the Soul Devourer sword using the recipe below.
2. Hold it in your main hand and go kill hostile mobs — the blade feeds on their souls.
3. Watch your kill counter grow: the sword deals more damage and drops more loot the more souls it devours.
4. Fight in melee range to trigger life steal healing, and use its dash ability to close distance or escape danger.

Overview

The Soul Devourer is a cursed blade forged from blaze rods, soul sand, and a wither skeleton skull. It hungers for the souls of hostile creatures, growing stronger with every kill. As you slay monsters, the sword steadily becomes more powerful — sharper, deadlier, and more generous with the loot it tears from its victims.

What It Adds

• Soul Devourer — a unique sword-type weapon that scales in power based on how many hostile mobs it has killed.

How To Use

• Attack normally to deal damage and build up soul kills against hostile mobs.
• Stay close to fights — landing hits near enemies triggers a life-steal effect that restores a small amount of your health.
• Finish off hostile mobs to heal a solid chunk of health instantly and gain bonus experience on top of the normal drops.
• Trigger the Soul Dash by using the weapon's special ability — it launches you forward with a powerful burst of speed, useful for gap-closing or repositioning in combat. This ability has a cooldown, so use it wisely, and it grants a brief window of fall protection after use.
• The blade can be enchanted like a normal sword (including durability and sword-specific enchantments) and behaves as a sword for combat purposes.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Soul Devourer using blaze rods, soul sand, and a wither skeleton skull arranged in the pattern shown in the recipe below. It can be found in the Combat tab of the Creative inventory as well.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Growing Power: Every hostile mob killed with the Soul Devourer increases its base damage, up to a high maximum. The more souls it claims, the deadlier it becomes.
• Life Steal: Landing hits near enemies drains a bit of their life force to heal you.
• Kill Healing: Finishing off a hostile mob restores a noticeable burst of health.
• Bonus Experience: Killing mobs with this weapon grants extra experience beyond the normal drop.
• Soul Looting: The sword showers slain mobs with loot as if you had an extremely high level of the Looting enchantment (effectively Looting 10), dramatically increasing drop rates and quantities.
• Soul Dash: A special movement ability that launches the wielder forward with strong horizontal and vertical force, on a cooldown of about two minutes, with temporary protection from fall damage afterward.

Progression And Strategy

• Start by hunting easy hostile mobs (zombies, skeletons, spiders) to quickly build up soul kills and unlock the sword's growing damage potential.
• Use the life steal and kill-heal effects to stay alive during extended fights without needing to retreat for food or potions.
• Save the Soul Dash for emergencies — escaping dangerous mobs, crossing gaps, or repositioning during boss fights — since it has a long cooldown.
• Because of its Looting-like effect, the Soul Devourer is an efficient farming tool for mob drops once it's been leveled up through kills.
• Combine with standard sword enchantments (Sharpness, Unbreaking, Fire Aspect, etc.) to further boost its combat performance, since it supports normal sword enchantments and durability upgrades.
