Mod Wiki

Nightmare Creeper

Quickstart

  1. In Creative mode, search for Nightmare Creeper Spawn Egg and use it to place a Nightmare Creeper.

  2. Give it room to move, then approach it carefully. It targets players it can see within 16 blocks.

  3. At 2.5 blocks or closer, it begins swelling and lights its fuse. The explosion occurs after 1 second.

  4. To trigger it yourself, hold flint and steel and interact with the Nightmare Creeper. This starts a forced 1-second fuse and consumes 1 durability from the flint and steel.

  5. To summon one with a command, use:

    /summon com_nightmare_creeper_wmkbeqei:mycreeper

Overview

The Nightmare Creeper is a hostile monster that hunts players in dark areas. It is tougher than an ordinary hostile mob, can climb, can move through water, and uses a powerful proximity explosion.

It has a dark, threatening appearance and uses the familiar swelling and flashing warning before detonating.

How To Use

Finding One

Nightmare Creepers can spawn naturally in monster biomes:

  • On the surface or underground
  • At brightness levels from 0 through 7
  • On Easy, Normal, or Hard difficulty
  • With a maximum surface density of 2

They are most likely to appear in dark areas at night or in unlit underground spaces. They do not naturally spawn on Peaceful difficulty.

Using the Spawn Egg

The Nightmare Creeper Spawn Egg is available in the Creative inventory. Select it and use it on a suitable location to place a Nightmare Creeper.

Igniting One

With flint and steel in your hand, interact with a Nightmare Creeper. It plays an ignition sound, uses 1 durability from the flint and steel, and begins a forced fuse.

A forced fuse should be treated as committed: move away immediately after igniting it.

Abilities And Mechanics

Hunting and Attacking

The Nightmare Creeper looks for nearby players and pursues visible targets. It can walk, jump, climb, float, and travel over water. If it reaches a player, its attack deals 8 damage.

It can also retaliate against creatures that damage it.

Proximity Explosion

When the Nightmare Creeper has a clear view of a player within 2.5 blocks, it begins to swell and light its fuse.

  • The fuse lasts 1 second.
  • Moving more than 6 blocks away can stop a normal proximity fuse.
  • Breaking line of sight can also stop a normal proximity fuse while the target is nearby.
  • The normal explosion has power 5.
  • The explosion does not create fire.
  • Blocks are destroyed only when mob griefing allows it.

Charged Nightmare Creeper

Lightning can charge the Nightmare Creeper without dealing damage to it. A charged Nightmare Creeper displays its charged appearance and has a much stronger explosion.

  • Normal charged explosion power: 8
  • Charged explosions also have a 1-second fuse.
  • Flint and steel can ignite a charged Nightmare Creeper as well.

Cats and Ocelots

Nightmare Creepers avoid cats and ocelots when they are within 6 blocks and visible. Use them to discourage a Nightmare Creeper from approaching a protected area, but do not rely on them as a replacement for distance and cover.

Crafting And Obtaining

The Nightmare Creeper has no crafting recipe.

You can obtain it by:

  • Finding one through natural spawning in dark monster-biome areas
  • Using the Nightmare Creeper Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory
  • Summoning it with /summon com_nightmare_creeper_wmkbeqei:mycreeper

Progression And Strategy

  • Keep more than 6 blocks of distance whenever possible.
  • Use walls, corners, and other solid cover to break its line of sight.
  • Do not wait for the final flashing stage before retreating; the fuse lasts only 1 second.
  • Fight from range when you can, since its 40 health makes it difficult to defeat quickly at close range.
  • Keep cats or ocelots near entrances and defensive positions to discourage pursuit.
  • Treat charged Nightmare Creepers as a major hazard and give them extra space.
