Night Cruncher

Quickstart

• In Survival, look for the Night Cruncher on the Overworld surface in low light, usually after dark. It hunts players and other mobs.
• In Creative, use the Night Cruncher Spawn Egg to spawn one. You can also summon it with /summon com_night_cruncher_moerfl5o:mycustom (requires cheats).
• Keep your distance and watch for dawn: the Night Cruncher seeks shelter during the day and burns when exposed to daylight. Try to stay out of its reach until it retreats or daylight destroys it.

Overview

The Night Cruncher is a huge, durable predator with a day-and-night cycle: it hunts at night, then tries to flee the sun. It can pursue targets without seeing them and can break through several common blocks, so a simple wall may not keep it away.

What It Adds

• A solitary Overworld surface mob that can spawn in low light.
• A large predator that targets players and other mobs at night.
• A spawn egg for bringing one into the world.

How To Use

There are no special player controls or interactions. Avoid the Night Cruncher rather than trying to approach it: it has 500 health, and its bite deals 64 damage before any damage reduction. It can swim and move over water.

The Night Cruncher can break stone, dirt, grass, sand, gravel, cobblestone, glass, oak planks, oak logs, and oak leaves. Don’t count on those blocks to hold it back.

Crafting And Obtaining

There is no crafting recipe. Find one in a low-light Overworld surface area, or use its spawn egg in Creative.

A defeated Night Cruncher drops 2–5 rotten flesh. If a player kills it, it may also drop 1–3 string or 1–2 spider eyes; Looting can improve these drops.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Night hunt: It searches for players and other mobs and attacks with a powerful bite.
• Day shelter: During the day, it tries to flee the sun. Exposure to daylight sets it burning and quickly kills it.
• Block breaking: It can break several common building and terrain blocks while pursuing targets.

Progression And Strategy

Treat night encounters as dangerous: keep away from the Night Cruncher, and plan for daylight rather than relying on breakable blocks for protection. If you want to observe or fight one, spawn it in Creative and give yourself room to retreat.
