    Description:

The Lavaxolotl is a hardy, fire-loving axolotl that swims comfortably in lava, has high health and is completely immune to damage, can be tamed with a bucket of cod and bred like normal axolotls, uses custom feeding and attack sounds, and unleashes a powerful fire attack that sets other mobs burning for 20 seconds. This update makes them far more common and easier to find: they now spawn reliably in rivers, shallow overworld water and lava pools in larger groups across biomes, and they move much faster on land so you’ll encounter them more often along shores.

    Mod Wiki

    LavAxolotl

    Quickstart

    1. Find one naturally — LavAxolotls are common overworld mobs. Check rivers, ponds, and shallow water areas (1–4 blocks deep) for groups of 1–3. Check overworld surface lava pools for guaranteed groups of 2–6. They also spawn broadly across any overworld biome in or near water.
    2. Spawn one manually — Use the LavAxolotl Spawn Egg from the Creative inventory or run /summon com_lavaxolotl_odhyaquj:myaxolotl.
    3. Tame it — Hold a Bucket of Cod and use it on an adult LavAxolotl. Each attempt has a 50 % chance to succeed; keep trying if it fails.
    4. Watch it fight — Release it near any non-player mob within about 16 blocks and it will charge in, dealing 2 hearts of melee damage and setting targets on fire for 20 seconds (when out of water).
    5. Breed them — Feed two adults a Bucket of Tropical Fish each to produce a baby. The bucket is consumed and replaced with a Water Bucket.

    Overview

LavAxolotl is a Bedrock Edition mob that adds a fire-immune, lava-swimming cousin of the axolotl to your overworld. It resembles a normal axolotl, thrives equally in water and lava, carries 25 full hearts of health, is completely invulnerable to all damage, aggressively hunts every other mob while leaving players and fellow LavAxolotls alone, and moves across land at high speed. It can be tamed and bred much like a regular axolotl.

    How To Use

    Finding LavAxolotls

LavAxolotls spawn naturally throughout the overworld at any light level and any time of day with no difficulty restrictions:

    • Rivers & shallow water — spawns in any river or ocean biome, and broadly across overworld animal biomes, in water 1–4 blocks deep; groups of 2–4. A second, broader overworld rule also places groups of 1–3 in surface water across all overworld biomes.
    • Lava pools — spawns in any overworld lava surface; groups of 2–6, making them very noticeable near surface lava lakes in plains, deserts, and badlands.
    • Land shores — because their land speed is very fast (movement value 0.4), you will frequently see them darting along riverbanks and lakeshore edges.

Up to 10–12 can coexist in the same area before the density cap slows further spawning.

    Taming

Hold a Bucket of Cod and interact with an adult LavAxolotl. Each use has a 50 % chance to tame it. Keep trying if it fails — the bucket is not consumed on failed attempts. You can also lure LavAxolotls toward you by holding a Bucket of Cod or a Bucket of Tropical Fish.

    Breeding

Feed two adults a Bucket of Tropical Fish each. The bucket is consumed and replaced with a Water Bucket. A baby LavAxolotl grows into an adult after about 1 in-game minute (1 200 ticks). Babies follow their parents. The blue variant has a rare mutation chance (~0.083 %) — it appears on babies when no other colour variant is inherited.

    Leashing

LavAxolotls can be leashed with a lead like other mobs.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    Complete Invulnerability

LavAxolotls take no damage from any source — weapons, fire, lava, explosions, magic, projectiles, thorns, wither, and everything else. They cannot be killed through normal gameplay.

    Fire Immunity & Lava Swimming

LavAxolotls are fully immune to fire and lava damage. They actively seek out nearby lava and swim in it. They breathe both air and water, do not dry out on land, and can path over and through lava freely.

    Combat — Fire Attack

LavAxolotls are aggressive toward all mobs within 16–20 blocks, except players and other LavAxolotls. Each melee hit deals 2 hearts (4 damage).

    • Out of water: each attack also ignites nearby enemies within 2 blocks with a fire burn for 20 seconds.
    • In water: fire effect is suppressed; melee damage still applies normally.

After killing an enemy, the LavAxolotl enters a brief cooldown (~6 seconds) before seeking a new target.

    Play Dead / Regeneration

When health drops below 4 hearts (8 HP) and certain damage types are received (melee, explosion, magic, projectile, thorns, wither), there is a ~33 % chance the LavAxolotl will play dead for 10 seconds while regenerating health — mirroring normal axolotl behaviour. Because LavAxolotls are fully invulnerable, this triggers extremely rarely in normal play.

    Land Speed

LavAxolotls move across land at a movement value of 0.4 — roughly four times faster than a standard axolotl — making them quick to travel along shores and across terrain. Swim speed in water and lava is unchanged (0.2).

    Health

    50 HP (25 full hearts).

    Drops

LavAxolotls drop items on death. Due to complete invulnerability, drops are only obtainable via creative tools or commands in normal survival unless invulnerability is bypassed.

    ItemAmountNotes
    Slimeball1–3Always
    Magma Cream1–2Always
Tropical Fish0–1~40 % chance; improves with Looting
Lava Bucket1~8 % chance on player kill; improves with Looting
Heart of the Sea1~2 % chance on player kill; improves with Looting

    Progression And Strategy

    • Easy early taming — Carry several Buckets of Cod; the 50 % tame chance means you may need multiple attempts. Rivers are the most reliable hunting ground since they are common and spawn groups.
    • Lava pool scouting — Surface lava lakes (plains, desert, badlands) spawn the largest groups (2–6). This is the fastest way to find and tame several at once.
    • Mob combat ally — A tamed or unleashed LavAxolotl attacks all nearby mobs automatically. Its out-of-water fire attack makes short work of enemies weak to fire, and it cannot be killed, making it a permanent ally.
    • Leash patrol — Leash a LavAxolotl near your base as an unkillable, aggressive mob deterrent that patrols automatically.
    • Breeding rare variants — Four colour variants (lucy, cyan, gold, wild) appear randomly on spawned adults. The rare blue variant (~0.083 % mutation) can appear on babies. Breed large groups to try for one.
    • Speed on land — Their high land speed means they will chase targets across open terrain quickly. They are also easy to spot darting along riverbanks as you explore.
