Description
The Hauntburst Creeper is a terrifying boss about one and a half times larger than a normal creeper, with a haunted black-and-red appearance that can spawn in the Overworld both day and night (but not on Peaceful). When it explodes it unleashes a massive blast and, after the blast finishes, five Mini Hauntbursts appear in a ring around the detonation and scatter outward and upward; these minis are faster, more aggressive, and often trigger chaotic chain explosions. Defeating the boss drops Haunted Gunpowder used to craft devastating Haunted TNT and a powerful Haunted armor set and sword — Haunted TNT now behaves like regular TNT when lit or powered, waiting the normal fuse before detonating while still producing a massive haunted blast (it can chain more quickly if set off by another explosion), the full armor greatly reduces explosion damage, and the sword creates a contained blast that deals 45 to 55 damage to nearby mobs only without breaking blocks or harming dropped items.
Mod Wiki
Hauntburst Creeper
Quickstart
- Survive the Overworld — the Hauntburst Creeper spawns naturally at any time of day on Easy, Normal, or Hard difficulty. Watch for a large, black-and-red creeper roughly one and a half times bigger than normal.
- Kill it carefully (see the explosion section below) to collect Haunted Gunpowder.
- Use Haunted Gunpowder at a crafting table to make the Haunted armor set, Haunted Sword, and Haunted TNT.
- Equip the full armor set before engaging more bosses — it slashes explosion damage to 20% of normal.
- Hit a mob with the Haunted Sword to trigger a contained blast that hammers everything nearby for 45–55 damage without destroying blocks or items.
Overview
The Hauntburst Creeper is a boss mob that roams the Overworld at all hours. It hits harder than a normal creeper, has 100 HP and moderate knockback resistance, and when it detonates it produces a catastrophic explosion followed immediately by five smaller Mini Hauntburst Creepers that scatter in every direction and can chain-explode with chaotic results. Defeating it yields Haunted Gunpowder, the key ingredient for an entire tier of powerful end-game gear.

How To Use
Fighting the Hauntburst Creeper
- The boss spawns anywhere in the Overworld on any difficulty except Peaceful, day or night.
- Its explosion radius is 8, far larger than a normal creeper. Keep your distance when it starts hissing.
- When it detonates, five Mini Hauntburst Creepers immediately spawn in a ring and launch outward and upward. Each mini has its own explosion radius and will target you aggressively. Take cover or eliminate them quickly before they chain.
- On death the boss drops 4 Haunted Gunpowder from its loot, plus an extra 2 Haunted Gunpowder scatter from the explosion event itself — up to 6 total per kill.
Haunted Armor
Wearing the complete four-piece Haunted armor set (Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots) reduces all explosion damage you receive to 20% of its original value — an 80% reduction. This applies to Haunted Creeper blasts, Haunted TNT, vanilla TNT, and any other explosion source. Haunted Gunpowder can also be used to repair damaged Haunted armor pieces in an anvil.
Haunted Sword
Right-clicking or attacking a mob triggers a contained explosion blast centered on the target:
- Deals 45–55 damage to all living mobs within a 4-block radius.
- Does not break blocks, ignite terrain, or damage dropped item stacks on the ground.
- Plays an explosion sound and particle effect on hit.
- Each swing costs durability, so manage it like a tool.
Haunted TNT
Place Haunted TNT like a normal TNT block. It behaves identically to vanilla TNT for activation:
- Light it with Flint & Steel or a Fire Charge to start the fuse.
- Power it with a redstone signal to prime it instantly.
- When caught in another explosion it primes itself with a shorter, randomized fuse (chains faster).
- When it detonates, the explosion radius is 16 — roughly twice that of vanilla TNT — and fully interacts with the environment (destroys blocks, sets fires).
Crafting And Obtaining
All crafting recipes require Haunted Gunpowder, obtained by killing the Hauntburst Creeper.
Haunted TNT — surround a regular TNT block with Haunted Gunpowder (yields 4):

Progression And Strategy
- Early encounter: The Hauntburst Creeper can appear at any time, even in broad daylight. Build a shelter or stay alert — its larger size makes it slightly easier to spot, but its massive explosion radius means you can die from further away than a normal creeper.
- First kill priority: Getting your first Haunted Gunpowder is the gateway to the entire content tier. Bow or ranged attacks are strongly recommended so you aren't caught in the blast or swamped by the five Mini Hauntburst Creepers that follow.
- Armor first: Craft the full four-piece Haunted armor set as soon as possible. The 80% explosion damage reduction makes subsequent boss fights and Haunted TNT usage dramatically safer.
- Sword as a crowd-clearer: The Haunted Sword's 4-block burst damage is excellent against groups of mobs. Since it doesn't destroy blocks or items, you can safely use it indoors or around valuable drops.
- Haunted TNT for demolition: With a blast radius of 16, a single Haunted TNT can clear enormous amounts of terrain or deal catastrophic damage to structures. Chain multiple blocks carefully — they prime faster when caught in an explosion, so a cluster can detonate in rapid succession.
- Repair your gear: Haunted armor and sword durability can be maintained with Haunted Gunpowder at an anvil, so keep some in reserve rather than spending every piece on new crafting.
