Frostfire Portal Realm
Quickstart
- Build a 4×5 Frostfire Portal with a 2×3 empty interior:
- The two blocks along one side of the frame are Ice.
- The two blocks along the opposite side are Magma Blocks.
- The top and bottom each contain two Ice blocks followed by two Magma Blocks when viewed from the front.
- Use Flint and Steel on the empty center to activate the frame.
- Step into the shimmering Frostfire Portal to enter the realm. The return portal is created in the Frostfire sanctuary.
- On your first visit, prepare for the Frostfire Dragon. Bring strong armor, ranged weapons, food, and fire- and frost-resistant supplies.
- In Creative mode, search for the mod's armor and weapons in the Combat tab. You can also use
/frostfire exampleto place an unlit portal frame near you. Use/frostfireto display the portal blueprint.
Overview
Frostfire Portal Realm is an eternal-night combat arena filled with volcanic emberstone, magical ice, elemental trees, and hostile frostfire creatures.
The realm's main challenge is the Frostfire Dragon. It attacks with fire, ice, frostfire storms, and crushing dives while summoning wyverns and other enemies. Defeating it rewards the materials needed for the mod's powerful weapons and armor, along with a special Elytra.
The encounter remains active if you leave the realm. After the dragon is defeated, craft a Frostfire Summoning Sigil to start the battle again.

How To Use
Entering and Leaving the Realm
The portal frame uses ordinary Ice, Magma Blocks, and Flint and Steel. It does not require a Frostfire Rift Core.
The completed frame is four blocks wide and five blocks tall. Its center is two blocks wide and three blocks high. Place Ice along one side and Magma Blocks along the other, including the matching halves of the top and bottom edges. The frame can be built in any horizontal orientation.
After lighting the center, walk into the Frostfire Portal. To return, enter the active portal in the Frostfire sanctuary.
Right-clicking the Frostfire Rift Core displays a reminder about the correct Ice-and-Magma portal. The core itself does not activate travel.
Exploring the Frostfire Realm
The realm is permanently set to night and has a broad arena made from:
- Frostfire Emberstone
- Magical Ice
- Ember trees with occasional lava
- Frost trees and icy terrain
The initial sanctuary contains the Rift Core and a return portal. The Frostfire Dragon's battle arena extends around this starting area.
Use an axe for the Ember and Frost logs and leaves. Use a pickaxe for Magical Ice, Frostfire Emberstone, and the Frostfire Rift Core. These blocks drop themselves when mined.
The Frostfire Dragon Encounter
The Frostfire Dragon appears automatically when the encounter begins in the realm. It remains persistent until defeated.
While players are present:
- The dragon attacks approximately every 4 seconds.
- It summons one Fire Wyvern and one Ice Wyvern approximately every 15 seconds.
- Frost Stray and Magma Blaze waves appear approximately every 20 seconds.
When the dragon is defeated, collect the rewards in the arena:
- 2 Frostfire Hearts
- 10 Frostfire Dragon Scales
- 1 Frostfire Dragon Wings
Resummoning the Dragon
After a victory, craft a Frostfire Summoning Sigil. Enter the Frostfire Realm and use the sigil there to restart the encounter.
The sigil only works inside the Frostfire Realm. In Survival mode, using it consumes the sigil. It has no effect while the dragon is already waiting in the realm.
Crafting And Obtaining
The Frostfire Dragon is the primary source of Frostfire Hearts, Frostfire Dragon Scales, and Frostfire Dragon Wings. The scales and hearts are then used to craft the mod's combat equipment.
Frostfire Summoning Sigil
Crafting ingredients: 4 Frostfire Dragon Scales, 4 Fire Charges, and 1 Frostfire Heart.
| Item | Recipe |
|---|---|
| Frostfire Summoning Sigil |
Emberfang Sword and Glacial Spear

|---|---|---|
| Ember Scale Helmet | 4 scales and 1 Magma Cream | |
| Ember Scale Chestplate | 7 scales and 1 Magma Cream | |
| Ember Scale Leggings | 6 scales and 1 Magma Cream | |

The Frostfire Dragon Wings are obtained from the Frostfire Dragon rather than crafted.
Abilities And Mechanics
Frostfire Equipment Durability
The mod's weapons, armor, and wings do not wear out during normal use.
- Emberfang Sword does not lose durability.
- Glacial Spear returns after being thrown and does not remain damaged.
- Both scale armor sets remain usable without breaking.
- Frostfire Dragon Wings do not consume durability.
All scale armor can also use Frostfire Dragon Scales as its repair material.
Emberfang Sword
The Emberfang Sword is a dragon-forged melee weapon with two attacks:
- Attack: Striking an enemy sets it on fire for 3 seconds.
- Use: Right-click to fire a three-fireball volley in the direction you are aiming.
The fireball volley has a short cooldown and uses large explosions. It can damage enemies and destroy terrain, so use it carefully near builds or important arena structures.
Glacial Spear
The Glacial Spear uses the familiar charged-throw interaction:
- Hold right-click to charge the spear.
- Release right-click to throw it.
- The spear returns automatically after the throw.
Both melee strikes and thrown hits apply Frostbind to living targets:
- The target is heavily slowed and chilled for about 4 seconds.
- Frost damage is applied during the freeze.
- Cyan frost particles spiral around the target.
- When the freeze ends, a weaker slowing effect remains for about 6 seconds.
Scale Armor
Both armor sets provide strong protection, toughness, enchantability, and knockback resistance. Their armor protection is the same by piece:
| Piece | Armor |
|---|---|
| Helmet | 3 |
| Chestplate | 8 |
| Leggings | 6 |
| Boots | 3 |
The elemental difference is in the boots:
Ember Scale Boots
While equipped, Ember Scale Boots continually provide Fire Resistance. They protect against fire and magma-block damage and prevent fire from being applied in those situations.
Glacial Scale Boots
While equipped, Glacial Scale Boots:
- Prevent the wearer from freezing.
- Remove accumulated freezing immediately when equipped.
- Freeze still water beneath and around the wearer, creating temporary Frosted Ice as you walk.
The frozen surface lasts for a short time before melting.
Frostfire Dragon Attacks
The dragon cycles through four attack styles:
- Inferno Sweep: A fiery area attack that damages the target and sets them on fire.
- Glacial Blast: Frost damage accompanied by strong Slowness and Mining Fatigue.
- Frostfire Storm: A wider soul-flame attack that damages and slows the target.
- Wing Buffet: A close-range dive or wing strike that deals heavy damage and knocks the target away.
Fire Wyverns and Ice Wyverns are flying attackers that appear in pairs during the encounter. Frost Strays and Magma Blazes arrive in recurring enemy waves.
Frostfire Dragon Wings
Equip Frostfire Dragon Wings in the chest slot like an Elytra.
- Jump from a height to begin fall-flying.
- While gliding, tap Jump/Space for an upward flap.
- Hold W while triggering the flap to add forward rocket-style propulsion.
- The internal rocket boost does not require or consume Firework Rockets.
- The wings never lose durability.
Progression And Strategy
- Build the portal and scout the sanctuary. The entry area gives you a safe reference point and a return route.
- Bring ranged weapons and a large food supply. The arena is open, and the dragon's attacks cover broad areas.
- Keep moving during the dragon's warnings. Fire and frost attacks target your position, while the wing buffet punishes players who stay close.
- Deal with wyverns quickly. Their aerial attacks can distract you while the dragon prepares its next attack.
- Use the right boots for the threat. Ember Scale Boots are best against fire and magma; Glacial Scale Boots are useful against freezing effects and watery terrain.
- Use the Glacial Spear to control dangerous enemies. Its Frostbind effect creates time to reposition or focus on another target.
- Use Emberfang's fireball volley in open areas. Its explosions are powerful but can damage the arena.
- Collect the dragon's first victory rewards. The scales and hearts unlock the full Frostfire combat set.
- Craft the Summoning Sigil after victory. Use it inside the realm whenever you are ready for another dragon battle.
- Equip the Dragon Wings once earned. Their unlimited rocket-style boosts make them useful for crossing the arena and controlling altitude during exploration.
