Quickstart

1. Keep chickens around — every so often one will molt and drop shiny Molted Feathers on the ground near it.
2. Pick up the dropped feathers like any other item.

Overview

Molted Feathers adds a special, slightly rarer variant of the vanilla feather that chickens periodically shed on their own. It behaves just like a normal feather for most purposes, but you can freely convert between the two forms at a crafting table whenever you like — no chicken required.

What It Adds

• Molted Feather — a new item that looks and stacks like a feather (up to 64 per stack) and can be composted, but is tracked separately from vanilla feathers.
• Passive chicken molting — chickens in the world will occasionally shed feathers on their own, dropping Molted Feathers nearby.
• Two-way hand crafting — swap a vanilla feather for a Molted Feather, or a Molted Feather back for a vanilla feather, using simple one-for-one crafting recipes.

How To Use

• Getting feathers passively: Just let chickens roam. Every few minutes (roughly 4–8 minutes of real time per chicken), a chicken has a chance to molt, dropping 1 to 3 Molted Feathers on the ground next to it. Most molts drop just one feather; larger drops of two or three are rarer.
• Getting feathers actively: If you don't want to wait, craft feathers directly:

• Using Molted Feathers: Molted Feathers count as feathers for tagging purposes, so they can be composted in a composter and used anywhere a "feather" item is needed via crafting, just like the vanilla item.

Crafting And Obtaining

Both recipes are simple one-to-one swaps made at a crafting table, so you can convert feathers back and forth as many times as you want.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Molted Feathers have no special abilities beyond being a stylistic/rare variant of the feather — they don't grant buffs or unique crafting recipes of their own.
• Chickens molt on a randomized internal timer, so drop timing varies naturally between individual chickens.
• Molted Feathers can be composted, giving them a use even if you don't need extra feathers.

Progression And Strategy

• Keep a small chicken pen if you want a steady trickle of Molted Feathers over time without spending resources.
• If you're in a hurry, skip the waiting entirely and just convert your existing feather stockpile at a crafting table.
• Because conversion works both directions, you never lose value holding either form — convert on demand depending on what a recipe or trade requires.
