Description

Have your own sprawling dark castle. Rooms upon rooms to decorate and use as you please.... HUGE rooms! Tall spires with broken stairs just waiting to be fixed! Vast ramparts with 8 guard towers! and plenty of tall pointed spires to place your enemies on top and watch them languish, unable to go anywhere. There might even be some hidden rooms, but don't quote me on that.

Mod Wiki

Dreadspire Citadel

Quickstart

  1. Enter Creative mode and open the Creative inventory.
  2. Search for Dreadspire Citadel Wand in the Equipment category and place it in your hotbar.
  3. Travel to a large, clear area. The citadel is an enormous structure with a wide footprint and tall vertical sections, so leave plenty of room around the placement point.
  4. Aim at the ground where you want the castle complex to begin and use the wand. On touchscreen, tap and hold; on keyboard and mouse, use the normal item-use control.
  5. The wand fires a projectile. When it hits, Dreadspire Citadel is placed around the impact area.
  6. Wait briefly before using the wand again. It has a short cooldown of about two seconds.

Start by exploring the central keep, then follow the connected halls into the wings and towers. Look for stair halls leading to upper levels and spiral staircases ascending through the major towers.

Overview

Dreadspire Citadel is a massive, dark gothic fortress-city built for exploration. It is a connected castle complex rather than a single mansion or isolated tower, with a grand central keep, multiple wings, courtyards, side halls, towers, spires, lower levels, and upper floors.

The architecture uses imposing silhouettes, deep shadows, heavy walls, and dramatic pointed forms to create an ancient and sinister atmosphere. Its horror comes from scale and architecture, with no creatures, faces, skulls, or biological decorations.

The citadel is designed to be walked through continuously. Doorways and normal passages remain open, allowing you to move from room to room without opening gates or doors.

What It Adds

  • A huge multi-building castle complex
  • A grand central keep surrounded by connected sections
  • Many wings, courtyards, corridors, stair halls, and side chambers
  • Numerous rooms with varied sizes and purposes
  • Grand halls and long connecting passages
  • Sleeping chambers and eating chambers
  • Storage rooms, guard rooms, and meeting rooms
  • Tower interiors and enclosed upper lookout rooms
  • Multiple internal levels, including upper and lower areas
  • Tall towers and spires with spiral staircases
  • Solid, thick architectural forms throughout the castle
  • A surrounding field of large, pointy ground spikes
  • The Dreadspire Citadel Wand for placing the structure

How To Use

Placing the Citadel

The Dreadspire Citadel Wand places the complete castle complex when its projectile strikes a location.

For the best result:

  • Use the wand while in Creative mode.
  • Aim at a broad, unobstructed area.
  • Leave substantial space around the target for the castle wings, towers, and outer spikes.
  • Avoid placing it beside important builds or in a cramped area.
  • After placement, give the structure a moment to finish loading before exploring.

The wand fires in the direction you are aiming. Its projectile has a small amount of drop, so aim slightly above distant targets if necessary.

Wand Controls

The wand uses the normal item-use control:

  • Keyboard and mouse: right-click
  • Controller: the usual use-item button
  • Touch: tap and hold

The wand has a short cooldown between shots. It does not deal combat damage; its projectile is a placement trigger that knocks targets back on impact without causing damage.

Exploring the Citadel

Central Keep

Begin at the grand central keep. It provides a natural starting point for exploring the rest of the complex and leads into the major halls and attached sections.

Wings and Courtyards

Follow the connected corridors outward from the keep to find side wings, courtyards, meeting spaces, storage areas, guard rooms, and additional chambers. The castle contains many differently sized rooms rather than only a few large interiors.

Towers and Spires

The major towers are built as explorable interiors. Search for their spiral staircases and follow them upward through the tower levels. Each major tower leads to an enclosed top room or lookout area rather than ending at a decorative exterior roof.

Upper and Lower Levels

Do not limit your exploration to the ground floor. Check stair halls, side passages, upper walkways, and lower sections for additional rooms and routes through the complex.

Open Doorways

Normal entrances and passages are open. If you reach a room or hall, walk through and continue searching rather than looking for a key or switch. Navigation is based on connected architecture and stairs.

Abilities And Mechanics

Structure Wand

The Dreadspire Citadel Wand is the mod’s main interaction item. It launches a placement projectile that triggers the citadel when it hits a surface.

Its projectile:

  • Travels in the direction you aim
  • Has slight gravity
  • Places the castle when it impacts
  • Does not inflict impact damage
  • Causes knockback on impact
  • Disappears after triggering the placement
  • Can be used again after its cooldown

Large-Scale Placement

The citadel is made from many connected structural sections and is loaded across a very large area. Placement may take a short time, especially in a dense world or on slower hardware.

Use a distant, open location for a clean installation. The structure includes extensive vertical construction, so also consider the height above the target area.

Surrounding Spikes

A field of massive solid spikes surrounds the castle. They rise at varied heights to form a jagged skyline, with many reaching at least 40 blocks above the ground.

These spikes are part of the citadel’s architecture and serve as a threatening outer perimeter. Explore between them to find the castle’s outer approaches and silhouettes.

Crafting And Obtaining

There are no crafting recipes for this mod.

In Creative mode, obtain the Dreadspire Citadel Wand from the Creative inventory by searching for its name or browsing the Equipment category. The wand is the intended way to place the structure.

Progression And Strategy

Dreadspire Citadel has no built-in quest line or required progression. Treat it as a large exploration site, fortress, building backdrop, or custom adventure location.

For a good first expedition:

  1. Place the citadel in a clear area.
  2. Locate the central keep.
  3. Map the main halls and attached wings.
  4. Search ground-level rooms before climbing.
  5. Follow spiral staircases into the towers.
  6. Visit the enclosed top rooms and lookout levels.
  7. Return through side corridors to find storage rooms, chambers, and lower sections.
  8. Explore the outer spike field after learning the castle’s interior layout.

For multiplayer or adventure builds, the citadel works well as a landmark, fortress base, maze-like exploration site, or dramatic centerpiece. Its open circulation makes it easy to furnish, populate, or adapt with your own rooms and gameplay challenges.
