Death Virus

Quickstart

When you first join a world, a Death Reaper Virus Core is automatically placed in your first empty hotbar slot — no crafting required to get started. Place it down somewhere to watch the virus begin spreading. To fight back, craft Compressed Planks (a crafting intermediate), then use them to build the Infection Gun. Hold the Infection Gun, aim at any infected block, and right-click to fire a cleansing shot that restores blocks in a 5-block radius around your target.

Overview

Death Virus is a survival challenge mod built around a fast-spreading, world-corrupting virus. The Death Reaper Virus Core is the source of infection — place it and watch blocks around it convert into Death Virus Blocks at roughly one block per second, even when no players are nearby. Your primary tool against the spread is the Infection Gun, which fires hitscan cleansing beams that reverse infection in a radius wherever they hit. The mod creates a constant tension between the virus spreading and your efforts to contain or undo the damage.

Abilities And Mechanics

Death Reaper Virus Core (Placed)

• Spreads the virus to surrounding blocks at approximately one block per second, even with no players nearby.
• Attracts hostile mobs — they will actively try to attack and damage the Core.
• Emits swirling purple particles and dragon-breath effects when a player is nearby, with occasional ambient beacon sounds.
• When the Core is mined or destroyed, it triggers a dramatic restoration wave that repairs infected blocks in the area.
• Its tooltip warns: "Will consume the entire world!"

Death Virus Blocks

• Any living entity that steps on a Death Virus Block is instantly killed.
• Dropped items that land on a Death Virus Block rot into Rotten Flesh, accompanied by a slime particle effect and sound.
• Virus Blocks continue to spread to adjacent blocks on a tick schedule, keeping the infection growing autonomously.

Infection Gun

• Right-click (use) to fire an instant hitscan shot with a range of 40 blocks.
• Each shot leaves a visible electric spark particle trail from your eye to the target.
• Plays a crossbow-shoot sound on firing.
• Shots only cleanse infection when they hit a Death Virus Block or a placed Virus Core — hitting any other block or missing does nothing to the terrain.
• A successful cleansing shot repairs all infected blocks in a 5-block radius, restoring them to their original state, accompanied by End Rod particles and a resonant sound.
• Each shot consumes durability. The gun has a short cooldown (~0.5 seconds) between shots.
• Aim carefully — you must hit an infected block directly to trigger the area repair.

Progression And Strategy

1. Early game: You receive a free Virus Core on join. Before placing it, gather materials to craft Compressed Planks and an Infection Gun so you have a way to fight back.
2. Containment: The virus spreads fast and doesn't pause when you're away. Prioritize shooting the Core block itself to trigger its destruction restoration wave, which clears a large area at once.
3. Mob pressure: Hostile mobs are drawn to placed Cores. You can use this to funnel enemies, but be aware they may destroy the Core and trigger an unplanned restoration wave.
4. Item management: Avoid dropping items near infected terrain — they will become Rotten Flesh. Keep your inventory tidy when working near infected zones.
5. Gun upkeep: The Infection Gun has limited durability, so craft extras or manage shots carefully during large infection events.
