Description:

Shady Dealings adds a single consumable item — the Counterfeit Trade — that summons a mysterious hooded NPC called the Shady Dealer. He offers suspiciously good bargains (dirt for gold, rotten flesh for emeralds, and more), but every interaction carries real risk. He might attack on sight, betray you mid-transaction, or quietly vanish in a cloud of black smoke once you're done with him.
| Content | Description |
|---|---|
| Counterfeit Trade | Consumable item (stacks to 16) that spawns a Shady Dealer when used |
| Shady Dealer | Custom NPC entity with randomized trades, hostile combat behaviour, and idle twitching/leaning animations |
Right-click while holding a Counterfeit Trade to consume one from your stack. The Shady Dealer spawns a short distance in front of you facing you. One of two things happens immediately:
The trade screen shows 3–5 randomly selected deals, each asking for a small amount of common junk in exchange for something valuable. Possible trades include:
| Cost | Reward |
|---|---|
| 1 Dirt | 3 Gold Nuggets |
| 2 Cobblestone | 5 Iron Nuggets |
| 1 Rotten Flesh | 1 Emerald |
| 3 Gravel | 4 Lapis Lazuli |
| 2 Sand | 1 Gold Ingot |
| 1 Dead Bush | 1 Diamond |
| 1 Poisonous Potato | 1 Golden Apple |
| 2 Bones | 1 Ender Pearl |
| 3 Paper | 2 Bottles o' Enchanting |
| 4 Feathers | 1 Blaze Rod |
| 2 String | 3 Slimeballs |
| 5 Sticks | 8 Redstone Dust |
Right-clicking the Dealer again reopens his screen and rerolls the offers, so you can fish for better deals — as long as he doesn't turn on you first.
If you close the trade screen without triggering his hostility, the Dealer lingers peacefully for two minutes, then disappears in a dramatic puff of black smoke. You can reopen his screen any time during this window.
Every completed trade applies Bad Omen to the player. Enter a village while this effect is active and you'll trigger a raid, so plan your shopping trips carefully.
Each time you complete a purchase, there is a 35% chance the Dealer immediately closes the screen and goes hostile. There is no warning.
Once hostile (either from spawn or post-trade betrayal), the Shady Dealer:
A non-hostile Dealer twitches and leans with subtle swaying animations while he waits, giving him a nervous, untrustworthy character.
The Counterfeit Trade is found in the Tools & Utilities creative tab and is craftable in survival:
The recipe uses Gold Nuggets, Paper, and an Emerald arranged in a cross pattern — fittingly cheap for something so suspicious.
