Throwable Spinning Blades

Quickstart

1. Open your inventory and go to the Combat creative tab — all six spinning blades are listed there for quick testing.
2. To craft one, arrange 8 matching vanilla swords in every slot of a crafting table except the centre (an "O"-shaped ring pattern). For example, 8 Iron Swords yield one Iron Spinning Blade.
3. Hold a spinning blade and right-click to throw it. Your hand will become empty as the blade leaves it.
4. Watch it spin through nearby mobs, then automatically return to your hand. If your inventory is full it will hover near you until a slot opens up.

That's the whole loop — craft, throw, catch, repeat.

Overview

Throwable Spinning Blades is a Fabric mod for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.5. It adds six tiers of throwable blade-wheel weapons — Wooden through Netherite — that fly forward, slice through multiple enemies, and boomerang back to you like a trident with the Loyalty enchantment.

What It Adds

Six items, each a spinning wheel of swords:

The Netherite Spinning Blade is fire-resistant and will not burn if dropped in lava. All blades appear in the Combat creative tab.

How To Use

• Throw: Right-click while holding a spinning blade. The item leaves your hand and becomes a flying projectile.
• In flight: The blade travels forward in a straight line, visibly spinning. It deals damage to living targets it passes through (up to its per-throw hit limit). Each successful hit consumes 1 durability and plays a hit sound.
• Returning: Once the blade reaches its maximum range or hits as many targets as its tier allows, it curves back toward you. A return sound plays when it starts coming back.
• Catching: When it reaches your position it automatically slots back into your inventory. If every inventory slot is occupied, the blade hovers near you and keeps attempting to insert itself — free a slot and it will fly in.
• Breaking: If the blade's durability runs out while in flight, it plays an item-break sound and disappears. Keep an eye on the durability bar.
• Owner gone: If you die or leave the world while your blade is in flight, it drops as an item instead of vanishing.

The blade will not damage you immediately after being thrown (there is a short grace period), and it does not break blocks.

Each blade is crafted at a crafting table using 8 matching swords placed in every slot except the centre — forming a ring:

Abilities And Mechanics

• No gravity: The blade flies level, unaffected by gravity.
• Multi-hit: Each throw can hit a distinct set of targets up to the tier's hit-count cap. Already-hit entities are not hit again on the same throw.
• Durability on hit: One durability point is consumed per entity hit; the blade can break mid-flight.
• Hover mode: A full inventory does not lose you the blade — it orbits near you until picked up.
• Indestructible in lava: The Netherite blade will survive lava drops if it falls as an item.

Progression And Strategy

Start with an Iron Spinning Blade for a good balance of durability and range at a reasonable crafting cost. Upgrade to Diamond for crowd control — its 6-hit cap and 32-block range let you clear whole groups before the blade returns. The Netherite Spinning Blade is the endgame option: 8 hits per throw, 40-block range, and 2,031 durability means it lasts through hundreds of skirmishes.

Avoid the Golden Spinning Blade for sustained use — despite solid range and damage, its 32-durability cap wears out very quickly. It is best treated as an emergency item rather than a workhorse.

For tight corridors, lower-tier blades are actually safer since their shorter range means they return faster. In open areas, lead with the Diamond or Netherite blade to hit spread-out mobs before they close the distance.
