Blessed Cursed Tome

Quickstart

1. Craft the Blessed Cursed Tome using the recipe below (the recipe is already known to you when you join the world).
2. Hold the tome in your hand and right-click (use item) to read it.
3. Wait for the message that appears on your screen — it tells you whether you were blessed or cursed.
4. The tome is consumed after one use, so craft more if you want to gamble again.

Overview

The Blessed Cursed Tome is a single-use magical book that puts your fate in the hands of chance. Every time you read it, there's an even split chance of receiving a powerful set of blessings or a nasty set of curses. There's no way to predict or influence the outcome — it's a pure gamble for the brave (or foolish).

What It Adds

• Blessed Cursed Tome — a consumable item that grants a random package of powerful buffs or debilitating curses when read.

How To Use

• Hold the tome in either hand and use it (right-click) to trigger its effect.
• On use, the tome checks its fate instantly:
  • Blessed outcome: A golden message reads "You were blessed by the gods!" accompanied by a triumphant chime.
  • Cursed outcome: A dark red message reads "You were cursed by the gods!" accompanied by an ominous wither sound.
• The tome is destroyed (loses one item) after each reading, so each copy only grants one roll of the dice.
• You can stack up to 16 tomes at a time, letting you carry several gambles for later.
• Check the tooltip on the item for a reminder that it's a 50/50 blessing-or-curse effect.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Blessed Cursed Tome at a crafting table using gold ingots, a nether star, a wither skeleton skull, a book, and an ender eye:

The recipe for this item is automatically unlocked for all players, so it will appear in your recipe book as soon as you join the world.

Abilities And Mechanics

Blessing (50% chance): When blessed, you receive a large, long-lasting stack of beneficial effects, including:

• Regeneration, Strength, Speed, and Haste
• Resistance and Fire Resistance
• Jump Boost and Night Vision
• Absorption, Saturation, and Luck

These effects last an extremely long time — for practical purposes, they will persist until removed by other means (such as milk, death, or effect-clearing).

Curse (50% chance): When cursed, you instead receive a punishing stack of negative effects, including:

• Blindness and Nausea
• Weakness and Slowness

Like the blessing, these curse effects last an extremely long time and will linger until cleared.

Progression And Strategy

• The tome offers no way to choose or influence which outcome you get — it is purely a gamble.
• Because the effects last so long, think carefully before reading it: a curse can seriously hinder your combat and exploration until you find a way to clear it (such as drinking milk).
• Crafting multiple tomes lets you try your luck again after clearing a curse, or bank several charges of good fortune for tough fights.
• Since the tome is fairly cheap to reproduce once you have the ingredients (notably a nether star and wither skeleton skull), consider it a mid-to-late-game gamble item best used when you're prepared to handle either outcome.
