Automated Item Sorter

Quickstart

1. Craft a Central Storage Chest and place it anywhere in your base.
2. Craft one or more Filter Antennas and place them directly adjacent to any chest or inventory you want to connect to the network.
3. Right-click a Filter Antenna to open its UI, then drop item templates into the filter slots to tell it which items belong in the neighbouring inventory.
4. Items matching the filter will automatically move between the Central Storage Chest and the connected inventory. Items placed in the Central Storage Chest are pushed out to the correct antenna; items in connected inventories that match an antenna's filter are pulled back to the chest.
5. Use the search/recall bar inside the Central Storage Chest UI to find and fetch items from across the network.

Overview

Automated Item Sorter adds a two-block network: a single Central Storage Chest acts as the hub for all your items, and Filter Antennas placed next to local inventories route the right items to the right place automatically. The system ticks every few game ticks, plays a subtle chime when items move, and respects vanilla sided-insertion rules so it works alongside hoppers and other automation.

How To Use

Central Storage Chest

• Place it anywhere. Right-click to open its 54-slot inventory.
• Use the search/recall bar in the chest UI to find items by name. Matching items are pulled from connected inventories back to the chest so you can grab them easily.
• Sorting is temporarily paused while you have text in the search bar, so recalled items aren't immediately sorted back out.

Filter Antenna

• Place it directly adjacent (any face) to the inventory you want it to serve — a vanilla chest, barrel, or any mod storage block that exposes a standard inventory.
• Right-click the antenna to open its UI. It has 12 filter slots.
• Drop one example of each item type you want this antenna to handle into a filter slot. The antenna uses the item as a template.
• Locking a filter slot (click the lock button next to the slot) prevents that filter from being accidentally changed or overwritten by automation.
• If a block item is used as a filter template, the antenna applies a broad family match — for example, placing an Oak Log template will also claim oak planks, oak stairs, oak slabs, and similar oak-family items, without claiming every log type.
• An antenna with no filters set accepts any item, making it useful as a general overflow destination.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Push: The Central Storage Chest scans nearby antennas every few ticks and pushes items to the first antenna whose filter matches.
• Pull: Filter Antennas also pull matching items out of their adjacent inventory back into the Central Storage Chest during cleanup cycles, keeping local inventories tidy.
• Sided insertion: The system honours sided inventory rules, so it inserts items only into slots that accept them from the relevant face.
• Vanilla automation compatibility: Hoppers and other automation can interact with the antenna's exposed inventory face. The antenna's filter template slots are never visible to external automation — only the adjacent inventory's slots are accessible.
• Sound feedback: A soft chime plays whenever items are sorted or routed.
• Modpack compatibility: The system uses the Fabric Transfer API and the same inventory-lookup path vanilla hoppers use, ensuring it works with storage and automation blocks found in Prominence 2 and Craft to Exile 2.

Progression And Strategy

• Early network: Craft a single Central Storage Chest and a handful of Filter Antennas. Assign one antenna per chest category (ores, food, building blocks, etc.).
• Overflow chest: Place an antenna with no filters set on a general chest so unrecognised items have somewhere to land instead of clogging the Central Storage Chest.
• Lock your filters: Once your sorting categories are stable, lock every filter slot to prevent accidental reshuffling when items are picked up or dropped.
• Family filters: Use a single block item template (e.g., one Oak Plank) to claim an entire material family without needing a separate filter for each variant.
• Recall workflow: Keep the Central Storage Chest UI open and use the search bar to recall specific items to your location before heading out, rather than hunting through individual chests.
