    Description:

Ashen Wastes adds a bleak, naturally generated Nether biome carpeted in Ash Blocks with deterministic patches of soul soil and abundant Ash Flowers that only grow on ash, converting exposed Nether terrain to ash during world generation. Ash Flowers spawn in clustered patches of one to five, making decorative and crafting materials easier to find, but brushing against them ignites living entities, turning gathering into a risky trade‑off; Ash Blocks are shovel‑minable for building and crafting uses. The region is populated by hostile skeletons and, rarely, skeleton horses, so exploration rewards building materials and collectibles but requires caution and combat readiness.

    Ashen Wastes

    Quickstart

    1. Find the biome – Enter the Nether and explore until you locate the Ashen Wastes biome. It is recognisable by its grey, ash-covered ground and pale flowers scattered across the terrain.
    2. Mine Ash Blocks – Use any shovel to quickly collect Ash Blocks from the ground. They drop themselves and can be used as building or crafting material.
    3. Collect Ash Flowers – Break Ash Flowers to pick them up. They drop themselves when broken. Watch out – walking into a living Ash Flower ignites you for 4 seconds, so break them from a safe angle or use a tool to avoid contact.
    4. Watch for mobs – Skeletons roam the biome. Skeleton horses also appear occasionally, so stay alert when exploring.

    Overview

Ashen Wastes introduces a naturally generated Nether biome defined by its bleak, ashen landscape. Exposed Nether terrain throughout the region is converted to ash during world generation, creating a distinct grey carpet across the ground and walls. Scattered patches of soul soil provide visual and gameplay variety. The biome is hostile: skeletons are the primary threat, and skeleton horses spawn rarely as a rarer encounter and collectible.

    How To Use

    Navigating the Biome

The Ashen Wastes generates in the Nether using natural biome placement. Explore the Nether until you see the grey ash terrain. Soul soil patches appear deterministically throughout, mixed in with the ash.

    Gathering Ash Blocks

Mine Ash Blocks with a shovel for the fastest harvest. They behave similarly to soul soil in terms of feel and sound, but are grey and have slightly lower strength. Each block drops itself.

    Gathering Ash Flowers

Ash Flowers grow in clustered patches of 1 to 5 flowers on top of Ash Blocks — they cannot grow on any other surface. Break them by hand or with any tool to collect them. Important: any living entity that physically touches an Ash Flower while it is placed in the world will be set on fire for 4 seconds. Approach carefully and break from range or at an angle to minimise exposure.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    Ash Flower — Contact Burn

Walking or standing inside an Ash Flower's space ignites the entity for 4 seconds. This applies to the player, hostile mobs, and any other living entity. The effect is triggered server-side, so it is fully applied in survival gameplay. Use ranged attacks or careful positioning to harvest flowers without self-ignition.

    Ash Block — Surface Conversion

During world generation, the mod converts exposed Nether terrain (netherrack, basalt, blackstone, gravel, soul sand, and soul soil) to Ash Blocks wherever those blocks touch open space within the biome. This creates the characteristic ashen appearance across floors, ceilings, and walls. Up to two blocks deep below the surface are also converted. Deterministic soul soil patches replace roughly 10% of ash surface positions, giving the biome natural-looking variety.

    Skeleton Horse Spawning

Every 60 seconds, the game checks each player standing in the Ashen Wastes biome. There is a 1-in-10 chance per check that a skeleton horse will attempt to spawn within roughly 24 blocks horizontally and 10 blocks vertically of the player. A maximum of 2 skeleton horses may exist within 64 blocks of the player at once, preventing overcrowding.

    Progression And Strategy

    • Early priority: Bring a shovel. Ash Blocks mine quickly with one and are your main building resource from this biome.
    • Flower safety: Equip armour with fire protection before harvesting Ash Flowers in bulk. The 4-second burn stacks with Nether fire damage and can be lethal without preparation.
    • Skeleton threat: Skeletons are the dominant mob. A shield and ranged weapon are recommended before venturing deep into the biome.
    • Skeleton horses: These spawn rarely and naturally. If you want one, spend time in the biome and wait — they cannot be forced to spawn, but the check fires automatically every minute you are present.
    • Building: Ash Blocks provide a unique grey aesthetic for Nether builds. Stock up during biome visits since they only generate here.
