Description
Verdant Flamebrand is a heavy, green flame‑infused sword that deals 13 damage and sports a larger, more imposing appearance in-hand and in inventory. Swing (attack) to strike foes — each hit applies Knockback II and sets targets ablaze, making it ideal for crowd control and finishing burns. The crafting recipe has been updated: the sword is now made with emeralds down the center flanked by blaze powder and a blaze rod beneath, so use that centered layout when crafting.

Verdant Flamebrand
Quickstart
- Collect emeralds, blaze powder, and a blaze rod.
- Open a Crafting Table and craft the Verdant Flamebrand using the recipe below.
- Equip the sword and swing at any enemy — it will be blasted back and set on fire instantly.

Overview
The Verdant Flamebrand is a powerful, rare-quality sword wreathed in green flame. It hits harder than a diamond sword, launches enemies away on every strike, and leaves them burning — making it one of the most aggressive melee weapons available. Its enchanted glint and bold green tooltip set it apart the moment it lands in your inventory.
What It Adds
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Damage | 13 per hit |
| Durability | 1,561 |
| On-hit effect | Knockback II + 5 seconds of fire |
| Rarity | Rare (green name) |
| Enchantability | Sword slot (value 10) |
| Repair material | Diamond (+390 durability each) |
How To Use
- Attack any mob or player to trigger the sword's effects — no special button required.
- Each successful hit applies a strong directional knockback (equivalent to Knockback II enchantment), launching the target away from you.
- The target is simultaneously set on fire for 5 seconds, dealing burn damage after the initial strike.
- The sword also cuts through cobwebs and bamboo quickly, just like a standard sword.
Abilities And Mechanics
On-Hit Knockback: The knockback is calculated from the exact angle between you and your target, so it always pushes enemies directly away from where you're standing. Enemies near walls or ledges can be pinned or knocked off entirely.
On-Hit Ignition: Fire is applied on every hit that connects, stacking burn time. Enemies already on fire will have their burn refreshed to 5 seconds.
Enchanting: The Verdant Flamebrand can be enchanted at an enchanting table or anvil using any sword-compatible enchantment — Sharpness, Looting, Unbreaking, and others all apply.
Repairing: Use diamonds at an anvil to restore durability. Each diamond repairs 390 points.
Progression And Strategy
- Gather blaze rods and blaze powder from the Nether (Blaze mobs in Nether Fortresses) and emeralds through trading or mining before crafting.
- The combination of high base damage, knockback, and fire makes the Flamebrand excellent for fighting groups — knock one enemy back while the burn chip-damages it, then focus on the next.
- Pair it with Fire Aspect or Looting enchantments for even more value: Looting increases drops from burned mobs, and additional Fire Aspect is redundant since ignition is already built in — prioritize Sharpness or Sweeping Edge instead.
- The sword's durability matches a diamond sword, so it holds up well through long expeditions. Keep a few diamonds in reserve for repairs.
