Thirst Bar

Overview

Thirst Bar is a Java Edition mod for Minecraft 1.21.5 (Fabric) that adds a hydration system to the game. A water-bottle icon bar appears above your hunger bar and tracks your thirst level from 0 to 20. Thirst drains at the same rate as hunger, so staying stocked with drinks is just as important as keeping your food bar full.

What It Adds

• Thirst Bar — A new HUD element displayed directly above the hunger bar, represented by ten small water-bottle icons (full, half, and empty states). Your thirst runs from 0 (fully dehydrated) to 20 (fully hydrated).
• Thirst Bar item (thirst-bar-kbg6aowk:thirst_bar_kbg6aowk) — A handheld tool that lets you check your exact thirst level on demand.

How To Use

Checking Your Thirst

Your thirst is always visible on the HUD above the hunger bar. If you want an exact number, hold the Thirst Bar item and right-click (use). Your current thirst level is shown as "Thirst: X/20" in the action bar in aqua text.

Restoring Thirst

Drink any of the following to restore thirst:

• Water Bottle — restores 10 thirst points (half the bar)
• Any potion (all potion types count) — restores 6 thirst points

Simply drink the item the same way you normally would in Minecraft.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Depletion rate — Thirst uses the same exhaustion rules as hunger. Every action that drains hunger (sprinting, jumping, taking damage, the Hunger status effect, etc.) drains thirst at the exact same rate.
• Starting thirst — Players begin fully hydrated at 20/20.
• Replenishment — Water bottles restore 10 points; all other potions restore 6 points. Both are capped at 20.
• Dehydration penalty — If thirst reaches 0 in Survival mode, you continuously receive Slowness I and Hunger I. These effects stop refreshing once you drink something and raise thirst above 0, then expire on their own shortly after.

Progression And Strategy

• Thirst depletes at the same pace as hunger, so treat it with the same urgency — always carry a few water bottles or potions when exploring.
• Potions of any type count as a drink (restoring 6 points), so brewing is a valid long-term strategy for keeping your thirst up while also gaining potion effects.
• If you hit 0 thirst, prioritise drinking a water bottle immediately — it restores half the bar in one go and clears the Slowness/Hunger penalties faster.
• Keep the Thirst Bar item in your hotbar for a quick numerical readout whenever the HUD droplets are hard to read.
