The Pale
Quickstart
- Find a Pale Oak Forest (Pale Garden) biome — The Pale spawns there naturally in groups of 3–6, day or night, with up to ~20 individuals present at a time. No commands needed.
- Collect pale moss carpet from the ground nearby — this is the key item for interacting with The Pale.
- Drop pale moss carpet on the ground near a Pale to feed it and trigger breeding.
- Watch for baby Pales to appear and follow their parents!
Overview
The Pale is a cute yet eerie guardian spirit that haunts Pale Oak Forests. It floats with a gentle, bee-like hover, sporting a soft pink-gray body, forest-green accents, brown trim, and glowing fairy-green eyes. A drifting trail of neon-blue sprites follows it wherever it roams. Equal parts adorable and spectral, The Pale brings life and atmosphere to what would otherwise be silent groves.

How To Use
Finding The Pale
Head to any Pale Oak Forest / Pale Garden biome. The Pale spawns at all light levels — they are active both day and night. The mod aggressively maintains a visible population of 10–20 in loaded forests, so you should encounter them quickly upon arrival.
Interacting
- Drop pale moss carpet on the ground within ~3–4 blocks of a Pale. It will float over, consume the item, and emit happy particles.
- Two adults fed with pale moss carpet will breed, producing a smaller baby Pale.
- Baby Pales follow their parent and can be fed additional pale moss carpet to speed up their growth.
Leashing
The Pale can be leashed with a lead, making it easy to guide one to a new location or keep a personal grove spirit nearby.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Hovering flight — The Pale uses a smooth, bee-like hover with no gravity. It navigates over water and avoids hazardous blocks.
- Neon-blue sprite trail — A continuous particle effect streams behind The Pale as it moves.
- Persistent population — A scripted system checks every second and spawns new Pales near players if the local population falls below ~10, ensuring groves stay lively.
- No gravity — The Pale floats freely; it will not fall even if there is nothing beneath it.
- Lava damage — Despite its ghostly nature, lava does harm it.
- Leashable & nameable — Can be leashed with a lead and named with a name tag.
Loot Drops
When a Pale is killed, it can drop the following:
| Drop | Quantity | Condition |
|---|
| Glowstone Dust | 1–3 | Always (boosted by Looting) |
| Pale Oak Sapling | 0–1 | Always (boosted by Looting) |
| Phantom Membrane | 0–1 | Player kill only |
| Honey Bottle | 1 | Player kill, ~25% chance (boosted by Looting) |
| Totem of Undying | 1 | Player kill, ~5% chance (boosted by Looting) |
The Totem of Undying is an extremely rare reward — a fitting tribute from an ancient guardian spirit.
Progression And Strategy
- Early game: Simply exploring Pale Oak Forests will introduce you to The Pale. Collect pale moss carpet to begin feeding them.
- Breeding: Feed two Pales pale moss carpet to grow your local flock. Baby Pales take about 60 seconds to mature, which can be shortened by continuing to feed them pale moss carpet.
- Farming: A patient player can build up a sizeable flock and harvest glowstone dust and pale oak saplings as renewable resources.
- Rare loot hunting: The 5% Totem of Undying drop makes The Pale a unique, peaceful-ish source for this otherwise boss-locked item. Bring a Looting sword to improve your odds.
- Grove building: Because The Pale is persistent and leashable, you can guide individuals to a custom Pale Oak grove you build, populating it with your own guardian spirits.
