Squid Ink Buckets

Quickstart

1. Craft or find an empty bucket.
2. Find a squid (regular or glow squid) in water.
3. Right-click / interact with the squid while holding the empty bucket to milk it.
4. You now have a Squid Ink Bucket (from a regular squid) or a Glow Ink Bucket (from a glow squid).
5. Craft the ink buckets into dyes, ink sacs, glow ink sacs, item frames, glow item frames, or a writable book — your empty bucket comes back automatically once the ink bucket is used up.

Overview

Squid Ink Buckets lets you collect ink directly from squids using an empty bucket, similar to milking a cow. Regular squids yield a Squid Ink Bucket, while glow squids yield a Glow Ink Bucket. These filled buckets act as crafting ingredients for dye, ink sacs, glow ink sacs, and other useful items, and your empty bucket is always returned once the ink bucket is consumed in a recipe.

What It Adds

• Squid Ink Bucket — obtained by milking a regular squid with an empty bucket.
• Glow Ink Bucket — obtained by milking a glow squid with an empty bucket.
• New crafting recipes that turn these ink buckets into dye, ink sacs, glow ink sacs, item frames, and a writable book.
• Automatic bucket return: whenever an ink bucket is used up in crafting, you get an empty bucket back.

How To Use

• Hold an empty bucket and interact with a squid or glow squid to fill your bucket with ink.
• Each individual squid can only be milked once per minute, so spread out your milking across multiple squids if you need ink quickly.
• Ink buckets stack only to 1 per slot, so carry an empty bucket for each squid you intend to milk in a session.
• Bring the filled bucket to a crafting table to turn it into other items.
• When a recipe consumes your ink bucket, your empty bucket reappears in your inventory (or drops nearby if your inventory is full) — no need to craft or find a new one.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Milking squids: Interacting with a squid or glow squid while holding an empty bucket fills the bucket with the matching ink type instead of harming the squid.
• Cooldown: Each squid has a short cooldown (about one minute) before it can be milked again, preventing rapid repeated milking of the same squid.
• Bucket return: Ink buckets are single-use crafting ingredients. Whenever one is consumed in a recipe — including shift-crafting multiple at once — you automatically receive an empty bucket in return, even if your inventory is full (it will drop at your feet instead).

Progression And Strategy

• Keep a supply of empty buckets on hand if you plan to farm ink from a squid pond, since each squid has a per-minute cooldown.
• Glow squids (found in deep dark or lush caves) provide Glow Ink Buckets, useful for glow ink sacs and glow item frames — handy for mapping out dark areas or labeling item frames that glow.
• Regular squids provide a renewable source of black dye and ink sacs without needing to kill them, making squid ponds a sustainable ink farm.
