Description
Skybeam Sentinel is a compact, craftable one-block defensive turret: place it as a full block and it will automatically scan for and lock onto nearby hostile mobs, prioritizing the nearest valid target and displaying a clear electric lock indicator with periodic reacquisition. When attacking it channels energetic sky-strikes that descend to damage and knock back enemies in an area away from the Sentinel, and a single emerald-green straight vertical beam appears only during the actual attack/sky-strike (replacing the old scattered particles). The block emits light, is mineable with a pickaxe, resists explosions moderately, drops itself when mined, and is ideal for automated base and approach defense—craft, place, and let it guard your territory.

Skybeam Sentinel
Quickstart
- Gather a Lightning Rod, an Amethyst Shard, Redstone, Glass, and a Copper Block.
- Craft the Skybeam Sentinel at a Crafting Table (recipe below).
- Place the block anywhere you want automated defense — near a base entrance, along a path, or underground.
- Watch for the electric spark indicators that appear around the nearest hostile mob: that means the Sentinel has locked on and is charging up an attack.

Overview
The Skybeam Sentinel is a single placeable block that acts as a fully automated defensive turret. Once placed, it continuously scans for nearby hostile mobs and strikes them with powerful sky-strikes — no player input required. It emits a gentle glow, blends into a base build, and guards its surroundings around the clock.
What It Adds
| Item | Type | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Skybeam Sentinel | Block | Placeable defensive turret that auto-targets and attacks hostile mobs |
How To Use
Placement: Place the Skybeam Sentinel like any full block. It immediately begins scanning for threats upon being placed.
Target Acquisition: The Sentinel scans for hostile mobs within a 16-block radius. It always prioritizes the nearest valid target. When a target is locked, electric spark particles appear around that mob as a visual lock indicator. The lock refreshes periodically to track moving targets or switch to a closer one.
Attacking: Once a target is locked and the charge is ready, the Sentinel fires. During an attack:
- A bright emerald-green vertical beam shoots upward from the Sentinel's position.
- Electric sparks descend onto the target from above, followed by a sonic explosion burst at impact.
- An explosion sound plays at the point of impact.
Damage & Knockback: The strike deals 8 damage to all hostile mobs within roughly 3.5 blocks of the impact point and knocks them back away from the Sentinel. This area-of-effect means tightly grouped mobs take the hit simultaneously.
Attack Speed: After firing, the Sentinel has a cooldown of 3 seconds (60 ticks) before it can fire again.
Mining: The Sentinel is mined with a pickaxe (about 3 seconds to break) and always drops itself, so it can be freely relocated. It has moderate explosion resistance, so it survives most creeper blasts.
Light: The block emits a light level of 14, brightening the area around it — useful for keeping spawn-proof zones illuminated.
Abilities And Mechanics
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Detection radius | 16 blocks |
| Strike area of effect | 3.5 blocks around impact |
| Damage per strike | 8 HP |
| Attack cooldown | 3 seconds |
| Light emission | Level 14 |
| Mining tool | Pickaxe (~3 seconds) |
| Explosion resistance | 8 (moderate) |
Hostile mob target list includes zombies, skeletons, creepers, spiders, cave spiders, blazes, ghasts, phantoms, witches, pillagers, vindicators, ravagers, husks, strays, drowned, slimes, magma cubes, silverfish, endermites, shulkers, wardens, vexes, breezes, hoglin, zoglins, piglin brutes, wither skeletons, and zombie villagers.
Neutral mobs, players, and animals are never targeted.
Progression And Strategy
- Early defense: Craft a Sentinel as soon as you have a Lightning Rod and Amethyst Shard. Placing even one near your base entrance will handle nightly zombie and skeleton spawns automatically.
- Layered coverage: Because the detection range is 16 blocks, spacing multiple Sentinels about 24–28 blocks apart covers approach corridors without gaps, while their area-of-effect attacks can catch clustered mobs between two units.
- Underground bases: The light level 14 emission means a Sentinel doubles as a mob-suppression light source in your tunnels while actively defending them.
- Knockback synergy: Enemies struck are pushed away from the Sentinel, not toward you — position Sentinels so the knockback direction drives mobs into walls, lava, or other hazards for bonus damage.
- Durability: The moderate explosion resistance means Sentinels generally survive the creepers they kill, but consider placing them slightly recessed or behind other blocks in highly exposed areas.
