Shadowsting

Quickstart

1. Gather a Netherite Sword, 2 Ender Pearls, 3 Echo Shards, 1 Shaper Armor Trim Smithing Template, and 4 Gold Ingots.
2. Craft Shadowsting at a Crafting Table (the recipe unlocks once you have a Netherite Sword in your inventory):

1. Hold Shadowsting in your main hand.
2. Left-click an enemy to strike. Watch for the Wither particles — that means the bonus magic damage proc'd.
3. Right-click (Use) to activate Shadowstep: you'll vanish in a cloud of smoke and teleport ~6 blocks forward. The ability has a 10-second cooldown.

Overview

Shadowsting is a powerful sword-type weapon that blends hard-hitting melee combat with a shadow-dash ability. It deals solid base damage, punishes heavily armored enemies with scaling magic damage, and lets you reposition instantly with Shadowstep — all in a single weapon slot.

Abilities And Mechanics

Melee Strike (Left-Click)

• Deals 8 base damage per hit.
• On each hit there is a 35% chance to trigger a bonus magic damage burst. This bypasses normal damage reduction and scales with the target's armor — the more armor a mob wears, the more shadow magic damage it takes.
• The magic damage bonus is calculated as: 3 + (armor value × 0.5), rounded down.
• Targets struck by the magic proc receive a brief Wither effect for visual feedback.

Shadowstep (Right-Click / Use)

• Teleports you ~6 blocks forward in the direction you are looking (horizontal only — no vertical leap).
• A smoky mist appears at your original position and an aura manifests at your destination, accompanied by a custom sound.
• Has a 10-second (200 tick) cooldown after each use. The cooldown persists correctly even if you reload the world.

Durability & Enchanting

• 2031 durability — on par with Netherite tools.
• Only loses 1 durability per mob hit, making it extremely long-lasting.
• Can be repaired with Netherite Ingots at an Anvil.
• Counts as a sword for enchanting purposes (Sharpness, Looting, Unbreaking, etc.) with an enchantability of 10.

Shadowsting is crafted at a Crafting Table. The recipe becomes available once you have a Netherite Sword.

Progression And Strategy

• Craft it after you have Netherite — the recipe requires a Netherite Sword as its centerpiece, so Shadowsting is a late-game weapon.
• Prioritize armored targets with the melee attack. Enemies in full armor (Iron, Diamond, Netherite) will receive significantly more magic damage on a proc, turning their defenses into a liability.
• Use Shadowstep offensively to gap-close on fleeing mobs or defensively to escape melee clusters. The 10-second cooldown means you should save it for the right moment rather than spamming it.
• Enchant for longevity and power: Unbreaking reduces the already-low durability loss further; Looting increases loot from kills; Sharpness boosts the base 8-damage swing.
• Keep Netherite Ingots on hand for Anvil repairs on long dungeon runs, though the high durability pool means repairs will be infrequent.
