Portal Gun

Quickstart

1. Craft a Portal Gun at a crafting table using the recipe below, then hold it.
2. Aim at a block face within 32 blocks and use the item to place the first portal.
3. Sneak and use it again while aiming at another block face to place the second portal. The two portals can be in different dimensions.
4. Walk into either portal to travel to the other. Look through a portal to see a simplified view of its partner’s surroundings.

Overview

The Portal Gun creates a linked pair of portals for looking between locations and moving between them. Each player has their own pair: using the gun again replaces the endpoint selected by your stance—standing places the first portal, and sneaking places the second.

What It Adds

• Portal Gun: A craftable item used to place and reposition portals.
• Linked portals: Two oval openings that connect locations, including locations in different dimensions.
• Portal view: A simplified live view of the area beyond the paired portal.

How To Use

Aim at a block and use the Portal Gun to place a portal on the face you’re looking at. If you aren’t aiming at a block within range, no portal is placed.

Use the gun while standing to set or move the first endpoint. Sneak while using it to set or move the second. Place both endpoints before trying to travel; entering either one takes you to the other.

Crafting And Obtaining

Craft the Portal Gun at a crafting table. The recipe uses 2 obsidian, 1 iron ingot, 2 ender pearls, and 1 redstone.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Portals appear as particle-ring openings on the block faces you target.
• When both portals are placed, you can see a simplified view of the paired location through either opening. It is a sampled view, rather than a full camera perspective.
• Entering either portal moves you to a point just beyond its partner.

Progression And Strategy

Place the first portal at your starting point, then set the second at a destination you want to reach. For cross-dimensional travel, place one endpoint in each dimension. Check the view through the portal and choose a clear destination before stepping in.
