Old Stone Depths
Quickstart
- Craft Kinkered Coal from regular Coal and Flint: .
- Find a Stone Cave Portal, hold Kinkered Coal, and use it on the portal. Choose Enter Stone Caves when the travel prompt appears. Use the portal’s travel interaction again and choose Return home to leave.
- In the Stone Caves, collect Old Stone, Under Logs, and Kinkered Coal Ore. Make torches from Kinkered Coal and Sticks to light your way: .
- Watch for Snap and Kithered. Snap can drop Cracked Bones for crafting a stronger set of tools and a sword.

Old Stone Depths is a dimension-exploration mod built around the Stone Caves. Explore its terrain, mine Kinkered Coal, gather materials for ancient-style equipment, and face hostile cave creatures.
What It Adds
- Stone Caves dimension and Stone Cave Portal for travel.
- Blocks and resources including Old Stone, Kinkered Stone, Kinkered Coal Ore, Under Logs, and Under Leaves.
- Kinkered Coal, its torches, and a food made with Sweet Berries.
- Old Stone and Cracked Bone tools and weapons.
- Three creatures: the hostile Kithered and Snap, and the aquatic Shallow.
How To Use
Traveling
Use Kinkered Coal on a Stone Cave Portal to open its travel prompt. Select Enter Stone Caves to travel in, or Return home when you want to leave.
Exploring and lighting the caves
Mine Kinkered Coal Ore to obtain Kinkered Coal; each ore drop yields 1–3. Kinkered Coal can also be used as furnace fuel and as a portal igniter. Craft it with a Stick to make four Kinkered Torches.
Creatures

| Snap | A hostile cave creature that can spawn in low light. Defeating one can yield 2–5 Cracked Bones. |
| Shallow | An underwater fish that appears in groups and drops Cod. |
Kithered and Snap spawn in the Stone Caves on Easy through Hard. In Creative, their spawn eggs can be used to spawn them directly.

Abilities And Mechanics
- Kinkered Coal has several uses: portal ignition, furnace fuel, torch crafting, and food crafting.
- Kinkered Torches provide light when placed.
- Old Stone and Cracked Bone each support a set of tools and weapons. Cracked Bone equipment requires Under Planks as handles.
- Shallows live underwater; Kithered and Snap are the main hostile threats described here.
Progression And Strategy
Start with a supply of Kinkered Coal and light, then explore carefully and gather Old Stone, Under Logs, and Kinkered Coal Ore. Use Old Stone for a first set of modded tools; hunt Snap for Cracked Bones and craft the tougher bone equipment. Keep food and a weapon ready when exploring dark areas, and use the portal’s return option if you need to retreat.
