Overview

Soulwings are huge, flying demons with sharp, blade-like ears and claws. They hover and glide, and adults can attack with both claws and soul shards. A tamed Soulwing follows its owner and helps defend them.

What It Adds

  • Nether Soulwing: A large, 80-health creature with a 12-damage melee attack. Baby Soulwings are smaller and have 20 health.
  • Soulwing Roost Beacon: Creates a Nether Roost and releases three baby Soulwings when used.
  • Soul Shard Scepter and ammo: Let players launch soul shards.
  • Soul shards: Deal direct damage and inflict a dangerous effect on targets that move.

How To Use

  • Beacon: Use it while in the Nether. It will not activate in other dimensions, and each player can activate one only once.
  • Taming: Interact with a Soulwing while holding an Echo Shard. Keep trying if it resists.
  • Scepter: Hold the Soul Shard Scepter and use it to shoot. Keep ammo in your inventory or offhand.
  • Spawn egg or command: Spawn a Soulwing with its spawn egg in Creative, or use /summon com_nether_soulwing_njk4nzmp:soulwing.

Crafting And Obtaining

The Roost Beacon recipe is shown in Quickstart. Craft the scepter at a crafting table; its ammo recipe makes 16 shots.

  • Soul Shard Scepter:
  • Soul Shard Scepter Ammo (16):

Soulwings also drop 1–3 Echo Shards when defeated.

Abilities And Mechanics

  • Flying: Soulwings hover without falling and glide while moving. They are not player mounts.
  • Growing up: Babies grow into adults over time. Adults are four times the regular scale, follow their tamed owner, and help fight nearby enemies.
  • Soul shards: A hit deals 4 damage and applies a short Wither effect, displayed as Soul Dissolved. While the effect lasts, each detected movement causes additional damage equal to 35% of the target’s maximum health.
  • Companion targeting: Adult Soulwings fire at nearby targets and can focus on something their owner recently fought.

Progression And Strategy

Use the Beacon to get started with three babies, then tame one or more with Echo Shards. Keep a tamed Soulwing nearby as it grows: adults follow you and attack alongside you. Against targets affected by Soul Dissolved, movement is especially dangerous.
