Limbo Beyond

Quickstart

• Somewhere out in the world you may be pulled into Limbo, a gray, foggy dimension. Once there, explore the wandering pathways of polished dark stone until you find a Return Portal (a glowing obsidian-like block) or collect a Revival Soul.
• Right-click a Revival Soul in your hand to instantly return to your Overworld spawn point (it is consumed on use unless you're in creative mode).
• Step on a Return Portal while inside Limbo to be sent back to the Overworld.
• Craft Limbo Pathway Slabs from Limbo Pathway blocks you find or mine:
• Watch your back in Limbo — the Watcher spawns behind you and only vanishes if it stares back at you long enough without you noticing it. Turn around and look at it to make it disappear.
• If you go deeper into Limbo, you may fall further into Nihility, a looping, hostile maze dimension. Be ready to run.
• If you dive into the deep sea, you may reach the Bathyal dimension — an endless, dark ocean filled with distant whale calls and rare mermaid song. Bring light and be prepared to swim far.

Overview

Limbo Beyond adds three otherworldly dimensions that players can stumble into: Limbo, a quiet purgatory of drifting fog and lantern-lit pathways; Nihility, a corrupted, repeating nightmare version of Limbo filled with escalating threats; and Bathyal, an endless abyssal ocean with haunting ambient sound design. Each dimension has its own mood, hazards, and way back to the surface.

• Revival Soul — a consumable teleport item that returns you to your Overworld spawn instantly when used.

Entities

• Watcher — a silent, motionless humanoid that appears behind players in Limbo. It cannot move or attack directly, but staring is dangerous: if it manages to watch you unnoticed for too long, something happens. Look directly back at it to make it vanish.

Dimensions

• Limbo — a foggy purgatory realm with drifting pathways, twisted forests, soul lakes, and the Watcher stalking players from behind.
• Nihility — an unsettling, looping hallway dimension layered beneath Limbo, with escalating hostile events (flickering eyeballs, closing walls, spider swarms) the longer you stay.
• Bathyal — a vast, dark underwater dimension filled with ambient ocean sounds: distant whale song, alien deep-sea noises, and rare, eerie mermaid singing.

How To Use

1. Entering Limbo: Players are drawn into Limbo under certain conditions while exploring the Overworld. On arrival, you'll see a message about waking in Limbo and needing to find a Revival Soul.
2. Surviving Limbo: Walk along the lit Limbo Pathways for safety and visibility. Twisted Limbo Wood forests and Condensed Soul lakes dot the landscape. Watch for the Watcher spawning behind you — turn and make eye contact with it to dispel it before it lingers too long.
3. Returning home: Use a Revival Soul (right-click) or find and step on a Return Portal block. Both send you back to your Overworld spawn point.
4. Falling into Nihility: Venturing too deep or long in Limbo can pull you into Nihility — a repeating hallway dimension with rising dangers the longer you remain, including strange eyeball flickers, closing walls, and spider swarms. Get out quickly once things escalate.
5. Diving into Bathyal: Swimming deep enough into ocean water can transition you into the Bathyal dimension, an endless abyssal sea. Listen for ambient cues — distant whale calls are common, while mermaid singing is rare and worth investigating (or fleeing, depending on your nerve).

Crafting And Obtaining

Most Limbo blocks (Limbo Stone, Nihility Eyeball Block, Limbo Pathway, Drift Lantern, Twisted Limbo Wood, Void Roots) are found naturally generated within their respective dimensions and mined with a pickaxe (or axe for Twisted Limbo Wood). They drop themselves when broken with a proper tool.

The only known crafting recipe converts Limbo Pathway blocks into slabs:

Revival Souls and Return Portals are not crafted — they are found or awarded as part of the Limbo experience itself.

Abilities And Mechanics

• Watcher's Gaze: The Watcher is stationary and harmless on its own, but if it manages to stay in view of a player's back without being noticed for a couple of seconds, it triggers a scare event. Turning to face it and holding its gaze for a couple of seconds causes it to disappear safely.
• Return Portal: Standing on this block while in Limbo instantly returns you to the Overworld. It has no effect in other dimensions.
• Revival Soul: A one-use escape item — right-click to teleport back to your Overworld respawn point.
• Condensed Soul: Behaves like a liquid but cannot be collected or waded through normally; it pools in low areas of Limbo, often near pathways.
• Nihility Escalation: The longer you remain in Nihility, the more intense the hazards become — flickering eyeball effects, closing walls, and eventually spider swarms at greater distances from your entry point.
• Bathyal Ambience: The ocean dimension is defined by sound — underwater ambience, whale song, alien noises, and rare mermaid singing that grows more likely to be heard the further you explore.

Progression And Strategy

• Treat your first minute in Limbo carefully — a Watcher encounter is guaranteed early on, so get comfortable turning to face it quickly.
• Keep a Revival Soul on hand if you can find one; it's the most reliable way out of Limbo without hunting for a Return Portal.
• Avoid lingering in Nihility — its dangers scale up the longer you stay and the farther you wander from your entry point. Retreat before spider swarms or closing walls trap you.
• In Bathyal, use sound cues to navigate: whale calls suggest open areas, while mermaid singing is a rare event worth chasing carefully — it signals something unusual nearby, for better or worse.
