Description

Hellrift Inferno remakes swaths of the overworld—especially desert regions—into a scorching Hellscape of basalt-rimmed lava rifts, exposed lava pools, ash-strewn ground, new Cinder Ash and Rift Basalt blocks, and Ember Grass foliage you can harvest for crafting and decoration. Survive and explore a dangerous, fully integrated Bedrock biome where original Rift Cinders now share the Hellrift with newly added Lava Zombies and Lava Skeletons—fire-immune, water-vulnerable undead that spawn naturally only in the Hellrift (and have spawn eggs), with Lava Zombies packing stronger melee attacks and Lava Skeletons attacking at range with bow gear and unique drops. To find the biome, use /locate biome or explore desert regions; the Hellrift includes biome-tagged worldgen, custom surface features, and biome-specific spawn and loot rules for a tougher, more varied endgame encounter.

Mod Wiki

Hellrift Inferno

Quickstart

  1. Load a world with Hellrift Inferno installed and travel into a desert region — the Hellrift biome generates naturally there.
  2. If you want to jump straight in, run /locate biome hellrift to get coordinates.
  3. Once inside the biome, you'll see scorched terrain covered in Cinder Ash, rimmed with Rift Basalt, dotted with exposed lava pools, and decorated with Ember Grass foliage.
  4. Watch out immediately — Rift Cinders, Lava Zombies, and Lava Skeletons all spawn here. Come armed and bring plenty of food.
  5. Break Ember Grass by hand to collect it (25% drop chance). Mine Cinder Ash with a shovel and Rift Basalt with a pickaxe.

Overview

Hellrift Inferno transforms parts of the overworld into a blistering Hellscape biome called the Hellrift. The biome replaces desert-adjacent terrain with lava rifts, ash-coated ground, and volcanic rock formations. Three unique hostile mobs patrol its surface, all immune to fire but vulnerable to water. The Hellrift is designed as a tougher, more dangerous overworld encounter with its own blocks, enemies, and loot.

All three mobs are fire-immune and spawn exclusively in the Hellrift biome.

How To Use

Finding the Hellrift

  • Explore desert regions on foot — the biome generates naturally near deserts.
  • Use the command /locate biome hellrift to get the nearest coordinates instantly.

Harvesting Blocks

  • Cinder Ash — Break with a shovel. Always drops one Cinder Ash block.
  • Rift Basalt — Break with a pickaxe. Always drops one Rift Basalt block. It is fairly tough (comparable to stone), so bring a decent pickaxe.
  • Ember Grass — Break by hand or any tool instantly. Has a 25% drop chance of yielding one Ember Grass item, so you may need to break several plants per harvest run.

Using Spawn Eggs

Each mob has a spawn egg available in Creative mode or via /give:

  • Rift Cinder Spawn Egg
  • Lava Zombie Spawn Egg
  • Lava Skeleton Spawn Egg

You can also summon any of them with /summon.

Abilities And Mechanics

Rift Cinder

The Rift Cinder dynamically switches combat modes depending on how close you are. At a distance it launches bursts of three small fireballs with a short delay between shots, capable of engaging targets up to 48 blocks away. If you close to within 2 blocks it shifts to a melee strike dealing 6 damage. It switches back to ranged once you move beyond 3 blocks. It takes no fall damage and avoids water. Kill one before a player or pet for a chance at a Blaze Rod.

Lava Zombie

Lava Zombies are aggressive melee fighters dealing 5 damage per hit — noticeably harder-hitting than vanilla zombies. They can break doors and navigate through water (though contact with water deals damage to them over time). Babies are faster and smaller. When underwater they begin transforming into Drowned after 30 seconds. Player/pet kills drop Rotten Flesh (common) or Magma Cream (rare).

Lava Skeleton

Lava Skeletons are bow-wielding ranged attackers with a reach of 15 blocks. They fire arrows at intervals of 1–3 seconds. If forced into water, they switch to melee. Player/pet kills drop Bones (common) or Coal (rare), plus a chance to drop their Bow.

Shared Traits (All Hellrift Mobs)

  • Fire immune — lava, fire, and flame attacks deal no damage.
  • Water vulnerable — contact with water deals continuous damage. Use this to your advantage.
  • Spawn on the surface, in groups of 1–3, on any difficulty from Easy to Hard.

Progression And Strategy

Early visits: The Hellrift is dangerous from the moment you arrive. Lava Zombies hit hard and travel in small packs; Lava Skeletons can pick you off from range while you're distracted. Arrive with iron-tier gear or better, a shield, and fire resistance potions (though the mobs themselves won't burn you, the lava pools will).

Water as a weapon: All Hellrift mobs take damage in water. A splash water bottle or a strategically placed water bucket can give you a strong edge, especially against groups of Lava Zombies.

Priority targets: Kill Lava Skeletons first — their ranged attacks are relentless and can interrupt everything you try to do. Then handle Lava Zombies in melee. Save Rift Cinders for focused fights, and close the distance quickly to stop their fireball bursts.

Loot goals:

  • Blaze Rods from Rift Cinders are the premier Hellrift drop, useful for brewing and crafting without a Nether trip.
  • Magma Cream from Lava Zombies provides fire resistance potion ingredients.
  • Bows from Lava Skeletons help replenish ranged gear.

Building with Hellrift blocks: Rift Basalt's dark, volcanic texture and high explosion resistance (8.0) make it a strong decorative and defensive building material. Cinder Ash and Ember Grass are great for recreating the Hellrift's aesthetic in custom builds.
