Endless Deadwood Forest
Quickstart
- Explore the Deadwood Forest biome and look for an abandoned cabin.
- Inside, interact with its special Deadwood Chest to enter the Infinite Deadwood Forest.
- Search the scattered shacks for ordinary chests; they may hold food, wooden tools, or leather armor, but some are empty.
- Go prepared to survive without a way back: dying is the only way to leave. After you respawn, you return to the Overworld.
Leave valuable gear at home if you can. The forest can take items from your inventory, and death may cost you whatever you are carrying.
Overview
The Infinite Deadwood Forest is a seemingly endless, always-dark dimension of deadwood trees, eerie sounds, and isolated shacks. The forest plays tricks on travelers, and a powerful creature called Deus Mortis may begin hunting you. There is no normal route back to the Overworld.
What It Adds
- A Deadwood Forest biome and an abandoned cabin that leads to the dimension.
- A dark forest landscape with Deadwood trees, occasional carved symbols, and randomly scattered shacks.
- Shack chests with a chance of containing food, wooden tools, or leather armor.
- Two hostile apparitions: Shadow Wraiths and Deus Mortis.
- Deadwood building blocks, including logs, planks, doors, and trapdoors.
How To Use
The cabin’s Deadwood Chest is the entrance: interact with it while in the Overworld to be sent into the forest. This special block is different from the ordinary chests inside shacks, which you can open to check for supplies.
Once inside, explore cautiously and watch for shacks and marked trees. There is no portal or other in-game exit; dying in the dimension returns you to the Overworld when you respawn.
Crafting And Obtaining
Deadwood logs can be crafted into planks at a crafting table. The planks can then be used for a small building set:
| Item | Recipe |
|---|---|
| Deadwood Planks | 1 Deadwood log makes 4 planks: |
| Deadwood Door | 6 Deadwood planks make 3 doors: |
| Deadwood Trapdoor | 6 Deadwood planks make 2 trapdoors: |
Shack supplies are found in their chests; the crafted deadwood blocks are separate building materials.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Forest tricks: Eerie sounds play at random. Shadow Wraiths may appear close by, briefly causing blindness and a startling sound. You may also be teleported nearby and affected by nausea, or lose one item from a stack.
- Deus Mortis: It may be seen watching from a distance, but treat it as a threat. It can pursue you, hit hard at close range, use a ranged sonic attack, and cause darkness. It has 650 health and is exceptionally difficult to fight. Sometimes it may take a single, unstacked item instead of killing you.
- Shack loot: Chests can be empty or contain a few pieces of food, wooden equipment, or leather armor.
- Death is the exit: Dying in the forest sends you back to the Overworld on respawn.
Progression And Strategy
- Bring food and basic equipment, but avoid carrying irreplaceable items.
- Search shacks for supplies, and be ready for a chest to be empty.
- Keep moving if Deus Mortis starts hunting. It is much tougher than an ordinary forest enemy, and being unable to see it does not guarantee safety.
- Carved symbols on some trees are a visible feature of the forest; use landmarks carefully, since the dimension can make travel feel like a loop.
- If you want to test the creatures in Creative, look for the Shadow Wraith and Deus Mortis spawn eggs.
