Mod Wiki

Chilltide Tools

Quickstart

  1. Search underwater coral areas for Chills. They spawn in groups of 8–16 on coral blocks, including brain, bubble, fire, horn, and tube coral blocks.
  2. Defeat a Chill to collect Sea Sticks. A player- or pet-killed Chill can drop up to 2 Sea Sticks, with Looting potentially increasing the drop.
  3. Combine Sea Sticks with cobblestone at a crafting table to make the Sea tools. Start with a Sea Pickaxe or Sea Sword.
  4. Equip a Sea tool in your hotbar and use it like the corresponding vanilla tool.
  5. In Creative mode, use the Chill Spawn Egg to create a Chill. With commands enabled, you can also use /summon com_chilltide_tools_mu2vcfs7:chill.
  6. To try the ranged weapon, obtain a Chill Water Core with /give @s com_chilltide_tools_mu2vcfs7:chill_water_core. Hold it and use it while carrying Chill Water Core Ammo in your off-hand or inventory.

Overview

Chilltide Tools adds the aquatic Chill monster and a complete set of Sea tools made from its drops. Chills are hostile underwater creatures that swim, attack players at close range, and fire patterns of water projectiles from a distance.

The mod also includes the Chill Water Core, a ranged weapon that launches Chill Water Core projectiles using crafted ammunition.

How To Use

Fighting Chills

Chills are monster mobs with 24 health and deal 6 damage with their melee attack. They can target players from up to 48 blocks away.

When a player is nearby, a Chill fires a water attack approximately every 55 ticks. Its attacks cycle between:

  • A single water projectile
  • A three-projectile fan
  • A five-projectile wave spread across different angles

Water projectiles deal 3–5 damage on impact and apply knockback. Keep moving, use solid cover, and watch the spread of each attack rather than standing directly in front of a Chill.

Chills can swim, breathe underwater, and breach the water’s surface. They are immune to fire damage and do not take damage from falling.

Using the Chill Water Core

The Chill Water Core is a one-handed ranged weapon. Hold it and use it to launch a Chill Water projectile. It uses Chill Water Core Ammo from the off-hand first or from elsewhere in your inventory.

The weapon does not require a charging period. Each shot launches an individual water projectile, which deals damage and knockback on impact.

To obtain the weapon directly with commands:

/give @s com_chilltide_tools_mu2vcfs7:chill_water_core

Crafting And Obtaining

Sea Sticks

Sea Sticks are dropped by Chills when they are killed by a player or a player’s pet. The base drop is 0–2 Sea Sticks, and Looting can increase the amount.

Sea Sticks stack up to 64 and are used to craft every Sea tool.

Sea Tools

All Sea tools have 180 durability. The pickaxe, axe, shovel, and hoe each have a mining speed of 6 against blocks in their matching tool group.

Sea Axe — 3 cobblestone and 2 Sea Sticks; deals 7 attack damage.

Abilities And Mechanics

Chill Spawning

Chills naturally spawn underwater on the following coral blocks:

  • Coral Block
  • Brain Coral Block
  • Bubble Coral Block
  • Fire Coral Block
  • Horn Coral Block
  • Tube Coral Block

They commonly appear in groups of 8–16, so approaching a coral area can lead to several Chills attacking at once. The Chill Spawn Egg can be used to create individual Chills for testing or custom encounters.

Chill Drops And Experience

A Chill’s Sea Stick loot requires a player or player-owned pet to kill it. A player receives 10 experience when they are responsible for the Chill’s final hit.

Progression And Strategy

  1. Locate a coral-rich underwater area and prepare for a group encounter.
  2. Isolate a Chill or attack from cover to avoid overlapping projectile patterns.
  3. Collect Sea Sticks from player- or pet-killed Chills.
  4. Craft a Sea Pickaxe for mining, a Sea Sword for combat, or a complete Sea tool set for general use.
  5. Keep extra Sea Sticks available for replacement tools, since every Sea tool has 180 durability.
  6. Craft Chill Water Core Ammo from iron and copper when using the Chill Water Core as a ranged weapon.
