Description
The Boomeraxe adds tiered throwable axes (wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite) that also function as effective handheld pickaxes and multipurpose tools: hold right-click to charge and release to throw — a full-charge throw sends it far and it returns to you like a loyalty trident while collecting block drops and experience and automatically smelting common ores. Higher tiers break dirt, leaves, and logs with improved mining speed, charge faster and fly farther; the action bar shows a charge meter and tooltips display each variant’s stats; enchanted golden boomeraxes can be found in ruined portal chests and enchanted iron and diamond boomeraxes as bonus loot in end city chests. Stone-tier boomeraxes can now be crafted with any vanilla stone tool material (for example cobblestone, blackstone, or cobbled deepslate), and netherite progression is done by upgrading a diamond boomeraxe at a smithing table using a netherite ingot and the netherite upgrade template, with the netherite boomeraxe and its thrown form being fireproof.

Boomeraxe
Quickstart
- Craft a Wooden Boomeraxe from planks, a wooden pickaxe, and sticks:

- Hold the boomeraxe in your hand and hold right-click to charge it. The action bar displays your charge meter.
- Release right-click to throw it in the direction you are looking. A fully charged throw travels farther.
- The boomeraxe mines suitable blocks in its flight path, collects their drops and experience, and returns to you automatically.
- Try throwing it through logs, leaves, dirt, and ores. It works as a handheld mining tool as well as a throwable weapon and tool.
Overview
Boomeraxe adds six tiered throwable tools:
- Wooden Boomeraxe
- Stone Boomeraxe
- Iron Boomeraxe
- Golden Boomeraxe
- Diamond Boomeraxe
- Netherite Boomeraxe
Every boomeraxe functions as an axe, pickaxe, and shovel. You can use one in your hand for normal mining, or throw it to break blocks along its path and bring the collected items back to you.
Higher tiers mine faster, charge more quickly, and travel farther. Each variant’s tooltip displays its charge time and throw-distance range.
How To Use
Mining by hand
Use a boomeraxe like a normal tool. It is effective against blocks suited to axes, pickaxes, and shovels, including:
- Logs and other wood blocks
- Leaves
- Dirt and similar soil blocks
- Stone and ore blocks
The material tier determines which blocks it can mine and how quickly it works.
Charging and throwing
- Hold right-click with the boomeraxe equipped.
- Watch the charge meter in the action bar.
- Release right-click to throw.
A partially charged throw travels a shorter distance. A full-charge throw travels much farther and launches faster, making it useful for clearing a line of blocks or reaching distant targets.
The thrown boomeraxe flies in the direction you are looking, spins as it travels, and returns to its owner like a Loyalty trident.
Block collection
While flying, the boomeraxe can break suitable blocks in its path. Their drops are stored by the thrown boomeraxe rather than being scattered at the block location. When it returns, the drops are delivered to you, and any collected block experience is awarded at the same time.
Common ores are automatically smelted before their drops are returned.
A block the boomeraxe cannot mine causes it to turn back instead of breaking through it. Throwing through a clear, suitable path gives the best results.
Durability
Breaking blocks during a throw uses the boomeraxe’s durability. If it runs out of durability while mining, the tool breaks and the flight ends.
What It Adds
| Tier | Item | General characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Wood | Wooden Boomeraxe | Entry-level tier for early-game use |
| Stone | Stone Boomeraxe | Stronger early-game mining and throwing |
| Iron | Iron Boomeraxe | Improved durability, speed, charge, and range |
| Gold | Golden Boomeraxe | Very fast tool tier with a short charge time |
| Diamond | Diamond Boomeraxe | High durability, speed, and throwing range |
| Netherite | Netherite Boomeraxe | Highest tier; fireproof in your inventory and when thrown |
Boomeraxes count as axes, pickaxes, and shovels for Minecraft tool interactions.
Crafting And Obtaining
Wooden Boomeraxe
Use any type of vanilla plank, a wooden pickaxe, and sticks.

Stone Boomeraxe
Use any material in the vanilla stone-tool-material group. This includes cobblestone, blackstone, and cobbled deepslate, along with other compatible stone-tool materials.

Iron Boomeraxe
Use iron ingots, an iron pickaxe, and sticks.

Golden Boomeraxe
Use gold ingots, a golden pickaxe, and sticks.

Diamond Boomeraxe
Use diamonds, a diamond pickaxe, and sticks.

Netherite Boomeraxe
Upgrade a Diamond Boomeraxe at a smithing table using:
- One Diamond Boomeraxe
- One Netherite Ingot
- One Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
The resulting Netherite Boomeraxe and its thrown form are fireproof.
Chest loot
You can also find boomeraxes as enchanted chest loot:
- Enchanted Golden Boomeraxes can appear in ruined portal chests.
- Enchanted Iron and Diamond Boomeraxes can appear as bonus loot in End City chests.
Abilities And Mechanics
- Throwable tool: Right-click charges the boomeraxe; releasing throws it.
- Charge meter: Your current throw charge appears in the action bar while charging.
- Returning flight: The boomeraxe automatically flies back after reaching its charge-based range or encountering an unsuitable block.
- Remote mining: Suitable blocks along the flight path can be broken without walking to them.
- Drop collection: Blocks broken during flight have their drops carried back to you.
- Experience collection: Ore experience collected during flight is awarded when the boomeraxe returns.
- Automatic smelting: Common ore drops are smelted automatically.
- Multipurpose tool: Each tier works as an axe, pickaxe, and shovel.
- Tier scaling: Better materials provide improved mining speed, faster charging, and greater throw distance.
- Fireproof Netherite tier: A Netherite Boomeraxe remains safe from fire and lava when held or thrown.
Progression And Strategy
Start with the Wooden or Stone Boomeraxe, then advance through Iron, Gold, and Diamond as you obtain better tools and materials. Keep the boomeraxe’s tooltip available when choosing a tier so you can compare its charge and distance statistics.
Use shorter charges for nearby blocks and quick utility throws. Charge fully when you need to mine at a distance or clear a long, straight path. Aim through blocks the current tier can mine; an unsuitable block ends the useful part of the flight.
For dangerous mining trips, a Diamond or Netherite Boomeraxe lets you collect blocks and experience from a distance while reducing the need to move directly into the area you are clearing. Repair or replace it when its durability becomes low, especially after repeated mining throws.
