Blood Moon City Siege

Quickstart

  1. Enter a new world. On the first initial spawn, a deserted city is generated around the starting area, and you are placed inside it.
  2. Search the moss-covered streets, buildings, and mines for City Salvage.
  3. You receive one City Beacon and four City Salvage on your first spawn. Hold the City Beacon and use it—right-click on keyboard or the equivalent use button on your device—to start the siege. You do not need to place it as a block.
  4. Explore and prepare before nightfall. Once the siege begins, zombie hordes rise in the city every night.
  5. Survive until dawn. After ten completed nights, the following night becomes a dangerous blood moon.

Overview

Blood Moon City Siege turns your starting area into a towering, abandoned city reclaimed by moss and vines. Its streets, ruins, walls, and mines provide a large place to explore and salvage while you prepare for an escalating zombie siege.

The siege is controlled for the whole world:

  • Before activation, the HUD tells you to use a City Beacon.
  • After activation, every night brings a zombie horde.
  • Dawn records your survived-night total.
  • Every ten completed nights, the next night is a blood moon.
  • Siege progress remains active after it has been started; using another beacon does not reset it.

What It Adds

Deserted City

The city is generated around the first initial spawn point. Tall abandoned structures, overgrown surfaces, streets, and underground areas create a large environment for exploration and defense.

City Beacon

The City Beacon is the item that starts the City Siege. Hold it and use it to activate the event. It is not used like a normal placeable block.

A beacon can only start the siege once. If the siege is already active, using another beacon displays the current progress instead.

City Salvage

City Salvage is the main resource found while exploring the deserted city. It is also awarded for reaching blood-moon milestones and is required to craft additional City Beacons.

How To Use

Starting the Siege

Use a City Beacon from your hand. When activation succeeds:

  • The City Siege begins immediately.
  • Every night will spawn a large zombie horde.
  • Your survived-night counter starts at zero.
  • If you activate the beacon after nightfall, that night’s horde appears immediately.

The original beacon remains available after activation, but additional beacons can be crafted with City Salvage.

Reading the HUD

The action bar displays the current state:

  • Abandoned City — the siege has not started; use a City Beacon.
  • City Siege — shows nights survived and the progress toward the next blood moon.
  • Blood Moon — shows the blood moon number, zombie strength, and the instruction to survive until dawn.

A sidebar score also tracks each player’s survived-night total.

Fighting Nightly Hordes

At nightfall, zombies spawn around players in the city. A normal nightly wave can contain up to 18 newly spawned zombies around each player, subject to the number of zombies already nearby.

Use the city to your advantage:

  • Secure a building or defensible street position.
  • Keep food, weapons, armor, and blocks ready before nightfall.
  • Avoid trapping yourself in a dead end.
  • Use rooftops and enclosed spaces to control where zombies can reach you.
  • In multiplayer, stay aware that each player can attract a horde around their own position.

When daylight returns, the night is counted as survived and the next cycle begins.

Crafting And Obtaining

City Salvage

You can obtain City Salvage by searching the deserted city and by surviving blood-moon milestones. Every player also receives four City Salvage on their first initial spawn.

At each tenth survived night, all players receive a City Salvage reward at dawn:

  • Night 10: 3 City Salvage
  • Night 20: 4 City Salvage
  • Night 30: 5 City Salvage
  • Later tenth-night milestones continue increasing the reward

City Beacon

Craft additional City Beacons at a crafting table using iron, redstone, a clock, and City Salvage.

Abilities And Mechanics

Blood Moons

After every ten completed nights, the next night becomes a blood moon. When it begins:

  • A blood moon warning appears for all players.
  • Additional zombies spawn around each player.
  • Nearby zombies gain increasing Strength based on the blood moon number.
  • Thunder signals the event.
  • The blood moon remains active until dawn.

The first blood moon is Blood Moon #1. Later blood moons become progressively more dangerous, and the extra zombie wave grows as the blood moon count increases.

Nightfall And Dawn

The siege follows the normal Minecraft day-and-night cycle:

  • A horde appears when night begins.
  • Surviving until daylight completes the night.
  • Dawn messages announce your total nights survived.
  • A tenth-night milestone awards City Salvage and warns that the next night will be a blood moon.

Defeating zombies is not required for the night to count; the objective is to remain alive until dawn.

Progression And Strategy

  1. Explore before activation. Locate useful buildings, open areas, escape routes, and places where you can fight safely.
  2. Collect City Salvage. Keep some for crafting replacement beacons and use the rest as you need.
  3. Prepare for the first night. Gather food, armor, weapons, blocks, and lighting before using the beacon.
  4. Track your progress. The HUD and sidebar show how many nights you have survived.
  5. Use milestone dawns to resupply. The tenth, twentieth, and later milestone dawns provide extra City Salvage.
  6. Treat blood moons as major events. Repair defenses, avoid fighting in open streets, and keep a retreat path ready before the next blood moon begins.
  7. Stay mobile when necessary. Blood-moon zombies are stronger and additional zombies appear near players, so do not let a crowded shelter become a sealed trap.
