    Description:

    This mod adds a persistent disease simulation where many non-boss mobs spawn infected with named strains that incubate for about two minutes and then pulse every 10 seconds with escalating, particle-free effects (from slowness/poison/hunger up to weakness/blindness/wither); diseases spread by being within roughly 3 blocks without full protection, by touching/hitting/being hit, or via contaminated dropped items. Gear up with a craftable full yellow biohazard suit to completely block infection (damage now only removes the chestplate rather than breaking every piece), and use the Disease Inspector (sneak-use or normal interact) to open a GUI that shows strain name, incubation timer, pulse effects and criticality, transmission methods, cure weakness and rules, cure status and infection stats — you can cure an infected entity or yourself by giving the listed weakness item, though about 1-in-50 strains are incubation-only and uncurable. New: craft and place the Disease Scanner Block, which when stepped on temporarily powers as a redstone source and sends a redstone signal outward in all directions to automate alarms, containment doors or traps; combine scanners, the inspector and containment tactics to detect, track, treat or quarantine outbreaks across your world.

    Quickstart

    1. Open a crafting table and craft the Disease Inspector — you'll need it to investigate infected mobs.
    2. Equip the full Yellow Biohazard Suit (hood, suit, pants, boots) to block all infection.
    3. Wander the world — most non-boss mobs spawn already infected with a named disease strain.
    4. Hold the Disease Inspector and interact (use button) on any nearby mob or yourself to open the inspection GUI and see the strain name, effects, cure item, and more.
    5. To cure an infected entity, give them the item listed as the cure weakness in the inspector panel.
    6. Craft and place a Disease Scanner Block on the ground — step on it to trigger a brief redstone pulse you can use for alarms or automated containment.

    Overview

    Biohazard Outbreak transforms your Minecraft world into an active epidemic. Nearly every non-boss mob spawns carrying a randomly named disease strain. Each strain incubates silently for about two minutes, then begins pulsing debuffs every 10 seconds — growing more severe over time. Diseases spread between creatures through proximity, physical contact, combat, and even dropped items on the ground. Players can gear up with protective equipment, diagnose outbreaks with the Disease Inspector tool, and build automated detection networks with the Disease Scanner Block.

    How To Use

    Disease Inspector

    Hold the Disease Inspector and interact with any living entity (mob or player) to open the inspection GUI. Sneak + interact also works. The GUI shows:

    • Strain name — a procedurally generated name (e.g. "Crimson Pox", "Shadow Fever")
    • Incubation timer — how long until the disease activates
    • Pulse effects — which status effects trigger every 10 seconds (slowness, poison, hunger, weakness, blindness, wither, and more)
    • Criticality — determines the amplifier on those effects
    • Transmission methods — how this strain spreads (proximity, touch, hit, contaminated items)
    • Cure item — the specific item needed to cure this strain
    • Cure rules — whether the strain can be cured at all (roughly 1 in 50 strains are incubation-only and permanently uncurable)
    • Infection stats — overall outbreak data

    To inspect yourself, simply interact with no mob targeted.

    Curing an Infection

    Once you know the cure item from the inspector, give that item to the infected entity (or use it on yourself). Possible cure items include things like honey bottles, milk buckets, golden apples, and fermented spider eyes — each strain is assigned one at random. Roughly 1 in 50 strains have no cure and will run their full course.

    Disease Scanner Block

    Place the Disease Scanner Block on the ground. Whenever any entity steps onto it, it temporarily converts into a redstone block for about one second, sending a redstone signal in all directions, then resets itself. Connect it to:

    • Note blocks / bells — audible alarms when infected mobs pass through a zone
    • Pistons or iron doors — automatic containment or quarantine gates
    • Dispensers — automated cure delivery systems

    Break the scanner with a pickaxe to retrieve it as an item.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    Disease Spread

    Infections travel four ways:

    Bosses (Ender Dragon and Wither) are completely immune and never carry or transmit disease.

    Disease Progression

    • Incubation phase (~2 minutes): The strain is carried but no effects fire yet. The inspector shows the countdown.
    • Active phase: Every 10 seconds a pulse applies status effects silently (no particles). Effects escalate with criticality — lower criticality strains cause slowness, poison, and hunger; higher criticality strains add weakness, blindness, and wither.
    • Criticality also acts as the effect amplifier, making higher-criticality strains increasingly dangerous.

    The Biohazard Suit

    Wearing all four pieces of the Yellow Biohazard Suit (hood, suit, pants, boots) grants complete infection immunity — no strain can infect you while fully suited. If you take enough damage while wearing the suit, only the chestplate tears off and is destroyed; the other three pieces remain intact. This is the only consequence of suit damage. Without the chestplate, the protection is broken and you are vulnerable again.

    Progression And Strategy

    Early game: Craft the Disease Inspector first (redstone + copper + glass pane). Use it to scout nearby mobs and identify which strains are spreading. Avoid staying near infected mobs without protection.

    Mid game: Gather yellow wool, gold ingots, and glass panes to craft the full biohazard suit. Prioritize the chestplate — without it the suit provides no infection immunity. Keep spare chestplates in your inventory since it can be destroyed.

    Late game / base building: Craft Disease Scanner Blocks and embed them into mob pathways. Wire them to pistons, trapdoors, or alarms. Use the inspector to monitor your base perimeter for outbreak hotspots. Identify and cure high-criticality strains quickly to prevent debilitating wither and blindness pulses from spreading through your passive mob farms.

    Uncurable strains: About 1 in 50 strains cannot be cured at all. If the inspector marks a strain as uncurable, quarantine or eliminate the carrier — there is no remedy.

    Copperstrike Longshot — a black, scoped sniper rifle with suppressor, extended stock and a 6-round detachable magazine that fires high-velocity Copperstrike Bullets (craftable from iron + copper); headshots or critical hits instantly kill while body shots deal about half damage. Hold the use button to enter a spyglass-style scoped aim (movement is slowed while scoped) and release the use/attack to fire — the rifle only shoots on release. New rifles start with an empty magazine; keep Copperstrike Bullets in your inventory to reload (consumes up to six bullets to fill the magazine) and the weapon will not reload or fire without the special ammo.
