    Description:

Alpine Lakes overhauls the high-elevation biome into a dramatic mountain playground of turquoise cirque lakes, snow-capped granite peaks, serrated ridges, steep rocky shores and scree slopes, with larger, more natural bowl-shaped basins and raised enclosing ridgelines that create realistic shorelines and dramatic vistas. Lakes are no longer simple circles: basins use rotated elliptical shapes, asymmetric shoreline modulation, inlets and bays, variable rocky shore benches and deeper, more varied lake bottoms while keeping the signature turquoise water, and new players are spawned safely at a nearby alpine lake or shoreline (with a fallback to shallow alpine water) accompanied by subtle particles and the chat message You awaken by the alpine lake.... Exploration and traversal remain central—craft skis and snowboards for downhill boosts, or a paddleboard that spawns a rideable water vehicle you control with WASD (can remount and grants Dolphin's Grace while riding)—while enjoying dense conifer and aspen stands, wildflower meadows, Stellar Jays, coyotes and brown bears, biome-specific pine and granite resources, recipes and loot, and a fast-changing alpine weather system that keeps travel dynamic.

    Alpine Lakes

    Quickstart

    1. Find the biome — Alpine Lakes generates at high elevations in mountain regions. New players whose world spawn falls in the biome are automatically placed on safe open terrain near the lake shore and greeted with the message "You awaken by the alpine lake…" along with cloud and water particles.
    2. Gather Pine Planks — craft them from Spruce Planks (shapeless, 1-for-1). Pine Planks are the core crafting material for all recreational gear.
    3. Pick your first toy — place the Stand-Up Paddleboard item on water to spawn a rideable vehicle, or hold Speed Skis / a Snowboard in your hand and slide downhill on snow or ice.
    4. Try the Alpine Explorer Kit — craft it and right-click to instantly unpack a Paddleboard, Speed Skis, and Control Snowboard into your inventory, plus short Speed and Resistance buffs.

    Overview

Alpine Lakes transforms high-altitude mountain terrain into a dramatic, realistic alpine environment. Bowl-shaped cirque lakes with organic, irregular shorelines — inlets, bays, asymmetric edges — are carved into granite peaks and serrated ridges. The signature crystal-clear turquoise water fills basins of variable depth while rocky scree slopes, snow-capped summits, dense conifer and aspen stands, and wildflower meadows fill the landscape between the water and the sky.

A fast-changing alpine weather system keeps traversal dynamic. Three unique wildlife species roam the slopes and forests. Biome-specific blocks, resources, and recreational equipment round out the experience.

    What It Adds

    Blocks

    BlockNotes
Alpine TurfGrass-like surface block; supports animal spawning; broken by hand
Granite ScreeRocky slope material; requires stone tool (pickaxe) to mine
Pine PlanksWood building material; crafted from Spruce Planks; axe-mineable, flammable
Alpine WildflowersDecorative flora; instant-break, no collision

    Items & Gear

    ItemFunction
Speed SkisHeld in hand; grants Speed on snow/ice and aggressive downhill acceleration
Control SkisHeld in hand; trades raw speed for better steering grip
Speed SnowboardHeld in hand; fast downhill variant with minimal steering
Control SnowboardHeld in hand; slower but highly maneuverable on snow/ice
Stand-Up PaddleboardSpawns a rideable water vehicle; controlled with WASD
Alpine Explorer KitOne-use bundle that unpacks recreation gear and grants buffs

    Entities

    EntityBehaviour
Stellar JayPassive bird; spawns on the ground in the biome
    CoyoteNeutral canine; wanders the slopes
Brown BearRetaliates when attacked; roams forests and shores

    How To Use

    Skis & Snowboards

Hold any ski or snowboard item in your main hand or off-hand. While standing on snow, powder snow, ice, frosted ice, or packed snow and moving downhill (descending slope), the item activates automatically:

    • A Speed or Resistance effect is refreshed every two seconds.
    • Downhill velocity is boosted each tick; steeper slopes = bigger boost.
    • Snowflake particles and sliding sounds play while active.

Speed variants accelerate harder and play faster sound cues. Control variants give gentler acceleration but retain more directional grip, making carved turns easier.

Skis and snowboards have no durability and stack to 1.

    Stand-Up Paddleboard

    1. Hold the Paddleboard item and right-click a water surface to place the board entity.
    2. You mount it automatically. Other players can right-click the floating board to mount.
    3. WASD steers the board; it bobs gently on the surface.
    4. While riding in water, Dolphin's Grace is applied every 3 seconds, keeping you swift.
    5. The board can be remounted after dismounting — just right-click it again.
    6. Hitting the board with any damage breaks it and drops the item.

    Alpine Explorer Kit

Right-click the kit to unpack it. It adds a Paddleboard, Speed Skis, and Control Snowboard to your inventory (or drops them at your feet if full), applies Speed I for 90 seconds and Resistance I for 60 seconds, and plays a chest-open sound. The kit is consumed on use.

    Abilities And Mechanics

    Safe Spawn System

When the world spawn point falls inside the Alpine Lakes biome, the mod scans a wide radius around the spawn location for the best open surface: the highest solid block with at least 6 blocks of clear air above it, prioritising flat ground near the lake shore. If no clean surface is found the system falls back to shallow water or the immediate lakeshore. Once placed, cloud and falling-water particles appear and the chat displays "You awaken by the alpine lake…"

    Alpine Weather

Weather in the biome changes rapidly. Expect swift transitions between clear skies, rain, and snow — plan traversal accordingly and keep an eye on visibility when crossing exposed ridgelines.

    Lake Shapes

Lakes are generated as organic, irregular basins rather than simple circles. Each lake uses a rotated elliptical base with asymmetric shoreline modulation, variable bays and inlets, rocky shore benches, and a varied lake bottom. This produces realistic, Tahoe-style alpine cirques set inside dramatic mountain bowls.

    Wildlife

    • Stellar Jays spawn on the ground and behave like parrots — colourful and passive.
    • Coyotes wander freely; they are neutral unless provoked.
    • Brown Bears retaliate when attacked and hit hard — keep distance.

All three species spawn on Alpine Turf, Granite Scree, grass, dirt, podzol, coarse dirt, or snow blocks.

    Progression And Strategy

    1. Early game — collect Spruce Planks from the conifer forest, convert them to Pine Planks, and craft either skis or a snowboard before heading uphill. Downhill travel is dramatically faster with gear in hand.
    2. Explore the lake — craft a Paddleboard to reach mid-lake islands, cross bays, and scout shoreline features. Dolphin's Grace keeps you moving quickly on the water.
    3. Bundle up — the Alpine Explorer Kit is an efficient one-craft solution that provides a complete recreation loadout. Save it for when you're ready to commit to a full alpine session.
    4. Granite Scree is a valuable decorative and building block found on scree slopes; bring a stone pickaxe to mine it efficiently.
    5. Watch the weather — alpine storms roll in fast. Build a base near the lake before venturing into exposed high-altitude terrain.
    6. Bear awareness — Brown Bears are found near forested shores and are best left alone. Coyotes are safe unless attacked first.
