Withered Shadowfall

Quickstart

1. Build a Shadow Portal. Make a 4×5 frame from Obsidian or Crying Obsidian, leaving a 2×3 interior.
2. Ignite the frame with Flint and Steel or a Shadow Igniter. Step into the purple-black portal to enter the Withered Realm. Each activated portal creates a linked return portal.
3. Gather Withered materials. Collect Withered Log, Withered Stone, Withered Coal Ore, and the other Withered ores. Withered Grass is the realm’s main surface block.
4. Make early equipment. Craft Withered Sticks, Wither Wood or Wither Stone tools, then upgrade to Shadow Steel equipment.
5. Craft a Shadow Igniter from Flint and Shadow Steel Ingot.

1. Search the Withered Realm for a rare shadow ruin. Its Shadow Altar is used to summon the Shadow Master.
2. Prepare before the darkness consumes you. Find the altar, insert the Shadow Igniter, then use an empty hand on it to rotate the igniter. Summoning occurs when it reaches orientation 2.
3. Defeat the Shadow Master yourself. The credited attacker receives the Demon God equipment and has their realm consumption cleared.

In Creative mode, you can experiment immediately with the Shadow Creature Spawn Egg, Shadow Master Spawn Egg, and Shadow Wolf Spawn Egg. For commands, use IDs such as /give @s withered-shadowfall-fdcujjiw:shadow_master_spawn_egg.

Overview

Withered Shadowfall adds the Withered Realm, a hostile shadow-themed dimension with its own terrain, ores, creatures, structures, equipment, and progression.

While you remain in the Withered Realm, the darkness gradually consumes you. Water accelerates the process. As consumption rises, the realm becomes harder to navigate:

• At 55% consumption, Slowness and Blindness begin affecting you.
• At 90%, the darkness directs you toward a hidden Shadow Altar.
• At 100%, the realm warns that you have been fully consumed.
• Killing the Shadow Master clears your consumption and removes the darkness effects.

The Withered Realm contains Withered Grass, Withered Dirt, Withered Stone, Withered Sand, Withered Gravel, Withered and Pale trees, eight Withered ore types, Shadow Crystal formations, rare ruins, villages, and broken portal sites.

Terrain near players gradually takes on the Withered Realm’s appearance. Withered Grass supports the realm’s hostile Shadow Creatures and its natural animals.

How To Use

Entering and leaving the Withered Realm

Create a vertical 4×5 portal frame from Obsidian or Crying Obsidian. The inside must be a 2×3 opening. Ignite any frame block with Flint and Steel or a Shadow Igniter.

Walk into the Shadow Portal to travel to the Withered Realm. The mod records the portal’s location and creates a linked portal at your arrival point. Use that portal to return to the Overworld.

A Shadow Igniter can also place Darkness Flame on a valid surface. In the Withered Realm, ordinary Flint and Steel creates Darkness Flame instead of normal fire.

Darkness Flame Torches

Darkness Flame Torches provide a steady light when placed or held. They emit shadowy portal particles and can attach to walls like ordinary torches.

Shadow Altars

Shadow Altars appear in rare Withered Realm shadow ruins. To summon the boss:

1. Place or find a Shadow Altar.
2. Right-click it while holding a Shadow Igniter.
3. Use an empty hand to rotate the inserted igniter.
4. Continue until the altar reaches orientation 2.
5. The Shadow Master rises from the altar.

A ruin can only summon one Shadow Master. If another Shadow Master is already nearby, the altar remains silent.

Shadow Wolf armor

Shadow Wolf armor is equipment for tamed Shadow Wolves, not player armor.

• Tame an untamed Shadow Wolf with Withered Sticks.
• Right-click the tamed wolf with a Shadow Wolf armor piece.
• Sneak and right-click the wolf with an empty hand to open its armor screen.
• The four armor slots accept the Shadow Wolf Hood, Shadow Wolf Wool, Shadow Wolf Leg Wraps, and Shadow Wolf Paws.
• At least one armor piece is required for the wolf’s shadow abilities.
• Right-click the wolf with White Dye, or use Bone Meal near your armored pack leader, to give it a natural wolf-like appearance without removing its powers.
• Colored armor can give the wolf a different appearance.

Only the wolf’s owner can equip its armor or open its armor screen.

Shadow Wolf abilities

A living, tamed, armored Shadow Wolf within 32 blocks can respond to its owner’s ability keys:

• J — Shadow Decoy: Creates a temporary wolf-shaped decoy that attracts nearby hostile mobs for about 8 seconds.
• K — Shadow Force: Pushes nearby hostile mobs away from the wolf, launches them upward, and clears their targets.

The wolf also uses these abilities automatically when hostile mobs approach. The abilities affect enemies within roughly 10 blocks.

If a tamed Shadow Wolf is defeated, it enters a fallen state rather than disappearing normally. After it becomes a Shadow Puddle, use a Shadow Crystal on the puddle as its owner to revive it. The wolf returns with its owner, armor, and appearance intact. A different player cannot revive another player’s wolf.

Basic realm materials

Withered Logs become Withered Planks, and Withered Planks become Withered Sticks. These materials are used for early tools, furniture, and Shadow Wolf taming.

Pale wood

Pale Logs provide a second building style for the Withered Realm.

Processing and stations

The Wither Furnace works like a normal furnace and accepts ordinary furnace fuel and smelting recipes.

The Withered Refiner converts Withered materials into useful counterparts. Right-click it to open its three-slot interface:

• Input: Withered material or Shadow Essence
• Fuel: Any usable furnace fuel
• Output: The refined result

The refiner processes one item every 10 seconds.

Shadow materials

Shadow Crystal Blocks generate in the Withered Realm and around shadow structures. Mine them with a diamond-tier or better pickaxe to obtain Shadow Crystals. A Shadow Crystal Block drops four Shadow Crystals when mined successfully.

The Shadow Master reliably drops three Shadow Essence. Refine that essence into Shadow Mass Ingots, then combine six Shadow Mass Ingots with a Nether Star to make a Shadow Heart.

Use a Shadow Heart to permanently increase your maximum health by one heart. Hearts are stored as permanent player progression. If you need to turn stored hearts back into items, use /heart withdraw or /heart withdraw <amount>.

Craft these pieces from Withered Wool, then attach them to a tamed Shadow Wolf.

Demon God weapons

The Demon God Sword, Demon God Axe, and Demon God Scythe can be made in a smithing table from their Netherite counterparts, a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template, and a Shadow Crystal.

The Demon God Helmet, Demon God Chestplate, Demon God Leggings, and Demon God Boots are also awarded when the player personally defeats the Shadow Master.

Abilities And Mechanics

Shadow Creature attacks

Shadow Creatures are common hostile mobs in the Withered Realm. In addition to their normal attacks, they periodically release a shadow pulse that applies:

• Wither
• Slowness

The Shadow Master can command nearby Shadow Creatures to attack its target.

Shadow Master battle

The Shadow Master is a powerful, fire-immune boss with two main attacks:

• It summons three Shadow Creatures when no minions are nearby.
• At range, it launches charged Wither Skulls.

Bring strong armor, food, healing supplies, a shield or ranged weapon, and enough light to keep the battlefield visible. Clearing the summoned creatures gives you more room to fight the boss directly.

The Shadow Master drops three Shadow Essence on death. The player credited with the kill also receives:

• Demon God Helmet
• Demon God Chestplate
• Demon God Leggings
• Demon God Boots
• Demon God Sword
• Demon God Axe
• Demon God Scythe

The credited player’s darkness consumption is reset, and the Slowness, Blindness, and Wither effects caused by the realm are removed.

Shadow Crystal Blocks

Shadow Crystal Blocks are a major source of Shadow Crystals. Use a diamond-tier or better pickaxe to mine them. The blocks also decorate Shadow Altars, ruined portals, villages, and other Withered Realm landmarks.

Shadow Puddles

A Shadow Puddle is the persistent fallen form of a Shadow Wolf. It has no collision and cannot be removed as an ordinary decorative block.

The wolf’s owner must right-click the puddle with a Shadow Crystal. The puddle disappears and the Shadow Wolf returns with its stored armor and taming status.

Progression And Strategy

1. Start with Withered wood and stone. Make Wither Wood or Wither Stone tools, collect Withered Wool, and tame a Shadow Wolf.
2. Explore carefully. Mark your portal and carry food, spare tools, and torches. The realm’s darkness is persistent while you remain inside.
3. Mine the Withered ores. Use the Withered Refiner to turn them into familiar materials for further crafting.
4. Find Shadow Crystals. They are needed for Shadow Steel, wolf revival, Demon God weapons, and Shadow Crystal Blocks.
5. Upgrade to Withered armor and tools. Shadow Wolf armor gives you a useful companion, even when only one piece is attached.
6. Search for the rare Shadow Altar. The high-consumption warnings point toward the objective.
7. Summon and defeat the Shadow Master before full consumption becomes a problem.
8. Use the rewards to finish your build. Shadow Essence produces Shadow Mass Ingots, Shadow Hearts increase maximum health, and the Demon God equipment provides the strongest endgame loadout.
