Overview
Wither Shadowstaff is a destructive staff-progression mod built around transformation, rituals, player-versus-player powers, and large-scale terrain effects.
Its main path is:
Magic Book → Wither Shadowstaff → GlitchLord Staff and Corrupted Staff → GodStaff → Fallen Angel Staff → Soul Staff
A separate Rage Staff progression and two hostile encounters—the ??? and the Soul Devourer—add additional challenges.
Use the items in a test area: many abilities create craters, fire, explosions, falling terrain, or temporary corruption.

Entities
- ??? — A night stalker that can appear on the surface in low light.
- Soul Devourer — A giant server-event boss with 5,000 health.
How To Use
On Bedrock, use means right-clicking, tapping the use button, or pressing the equivalent controller trigger. Crouch-use means holding sneak while using the item. Several ultimate abilities activate when you crouch-jump while holding the relevant staff.
Many staffs also lift nearby ground blocks briefly when activated. The blocks return after the visual effect finishes, but destructive attacks can still leave craters or fire.
Abilities And Mechanics
Magic Book
Hold the Magic Book and:
- Crouch-use once: awaken the book. The world shifts toward midnight, lightning surrounds you, nearby entities are slowed and pushed away, and you are lifted into the air.
- Use again after awakening: open the transfer menu.
- Choose Agree - Receive the Withered Staff to consume the Magic Book and receive a Wither Shadowstaff.
- Choose Keep the Magic Book to retain it.
The book can also launch an entity with a direct hit. The target is thrown forward, rises briefly, and is driven into a lightning impact and a deep final crater.
Wither Shadowstaff
Holding the staff in either hand provides:
- Invisibility
- Protection from the Wither effect
- Protection from being selected as a target by nearby Withers
- A swirling smoke effect
Standard attacks
- Normal melee hit: deals the staff's melee damage and applies Wither V for 5 seconds.
- Crouch-hit: launches the target a long distance. When the target crashes, the impact creates an explosion, a crater, and fire.
- Ground use: releases a withering burst in a 15-block radius. Nearby entities are thrown away and receive Wither IV for 10 seconds. The wielder receives Regeneration III for 5 seconds.
- Airborne use: strike a solid or liquid block within 64 blocks. The impact summons lightning, damages entities near the strike, carves a crater, and can ignite the area.
- Crouch-use on the ground: summons 15 skeletons behind you and a Wither roughly 12 blocks behind you.
Wither control
While holding the staff, nearby Withers and Wither Skeletons can be influenced within 48 blocks. Look straight up while using the staff to open the Wither Shadowstaff menu. Use the available player controls to manage Corrupted Staff power and the Wither-related options shown by the menu.
Withered Lord sequence
Crouch-jump while holding the Wither Shadowstaff to begin the Withered Lord sequence. Follow the on-screen prompts.
The awakened Withered Lord:
- Summons an army of 24 Wither Skeletons.
- Gives the wielder empowered staff attacks.
- Applies darkness to other players.
- Periodically calls lightning onto random players.
- Strengthens nearby staff damage.
The final rite creates a large obsidian ritual enclosure and demands a 10-heart sacrifice. The awakening menu lets you begin the sacrifice rite or cancel it. If the rite is interrupted by death, the interrupted rite revives the player and awards the GlitchLord Staff.
Corrupted Staff
The Corrupted Staff only answers players who have been granted Corrupted power by the Wither Shadowstaff's player menu. A command-given copy without that power will not activate its special abilities.
- Normal use: fires a corrupted fireball. The projectile lasts for several seconds and creates a large blast when it impacts.
- Crouch-use: fires a ground-level corrupted burst toward the block you are looking at. It can carve a blast roughly 12 blocks wide and 8 blocks deep.
- Melee hit: sets the target on fire and applies Slowness II for 12 seconds.
- Crouch-hit: launches the target.
- Crouch-jump: opens the Corrupted Staff ultimate menu.
Catastrophe
To start the ultimate:
- Hold an empowered Corrupted Staff.
- Crouch-jump.
- Choose a nearby player holding a Wither Shadowstaff.
- The Wither Shadowstaff wielder must accept the request.
- Both players must remain in the same dimension and within 30 blocks during the request.
The resulting catastrophe lasts 3 minutes and affects a 150-block arena. The two participating wielders are protected from its hostile effects. Everyone else in the area is repeatedly afflicted with Slowness, Wither, and Nausea while lightning strikes their positions.
Every few seconds, a corrupted eruption creates a blast and summons six Wither Skeletons and six Blazes. The catastrophe has a 20-minute cooldown.
GlitchLord Staff
The GlitchLord Staff is awarded when the Withered Lord's interrupted rite chooses you. It can also be placed in your inventory for testing with /give @s com_wither_shadowstaff_pe7fs6xd:glitchlord_staff 1, but its full power requires a GlitchLord manifestation.
- Crouch-use before manifestation: become the GlitchLord.
- Normal use while manifested: create a lightning explosion and a deep crater. Other players within roughly 25 blocks are killed.
- Crouch-use while manifested: charge a 75-block lightning annihilation. The warning lasts 5 seconds, then players within the area are struck and killed.
- Melee hit: launches the target extremely far and creates a crash impact when they land.
The manifestation lasts 30 seconds. During the transformation you receive powerful defensive and movement effects. If the manifestation ends without a kill, a rage-maze challenge can begin. Failing the challenge ends the GlitchLord power, removes the staff, and kills the wielder.
GodStaff
The GodStaff is awakened by collecting the following three staffs in your inventory:
- Wither Shadowstaff
- GlitchLord Staff
- Corrupted Staff
When the combination menu appears, choose Awaken the GodStaff. The three staffs are consumed and replaced with a functional GodStaff.
A plain Creative or command-given GodStaff may not function as a progression-awakened staff. If it disappears or does nothing, obtain it through the combination menu instead.
- Normal use: target a block or location up to 96 blocks away. The strike summons lightning, creates a huge crater, and lethally attacks other players near the impact.
- Crouch-use: launches nearby players within 75 blocks and drives them into a devastating fall.
- Melee hit: performs the GodStaff's lethal judgment against the target.
- Crouch-jump: aim at a location during the brief charge. Nearby blocks rise into the air before the final judgment creates a large crater and lethal impact.
- Every activation: lifts several nearby ground blocks for a short time.
The GodStaff tracks credited kills. After three kills, its StaffGod power rests and the GodStaff is removed. Some empty-target GodStaff attacks can instead trigger the Fallen Angel handoff.
Fallen Angel Staff
The Fallen Angel Staff is the world's corruption form of the GodStaff.
While holding it, the wielder receives defensive, health, regeneration, and fire-protection effects. Nearby ground can also lift when the staff is activated.
- Normal use: create an explosion and knockback pulse around yourself.
- Crouch-use: throw nearby players upward and create a deep trap beneath their positions. The trap closes after about 1 second.
- Melee hit: launch the target and apply harmful effects.
- Crouch-jump: begin the Fallen Angel's ultimate corruption.
- No nearby victims: some destructive Fallen Angel activations consume the current power and reissue the Fallen Angel form.
The ultimate affects players within 75 blocks. It changes surrounding ground into netherrack and magma, repeatedly sets nearby players on fire, and applies a large collection of debuffs including Wither, Blindness, Darkness, Slowness, Weakness, Nausea, Hunger, Mining Fatigue, and Poison.
Rage Staff
The Rage Staff grows stronger through combat rather than crafting.
Leveling
The staff counts hits against:
- Players
- Withers
- Ender Dragons
- Wardens
Every 25 valid hits grants another level. The action bar displays the current level and hit counter.
Important level milestones are:
| Level | Effect |
|---|---|
| 6 | Unlocks the staff's target attack |
| 12 | Unlocks Rage Mode |
| 15 | First level cap and first rebirth |
| 25 | Stronger launches and a knockback aura |
| 40 | Airborne crater dive |
| 50 | Second rebirth |
| 75 | True Rage |
| 100 | Final level cap after the second rebirth |
Combat controls
- Normal use after level 6: teleport to your last valid target and strike them with heavy knockback.
- Crouch-use after level 12: activate Rage Mode.
- Use while Rage Mode is active: open the Air Assault or Execution target menu.
- Airborne use at level 40: perform a crater dive.
- At level 15 or 50: complete the displayed rebirth menu to reset the level and hit counter while retaining earlier abilities.
The first rebirth raises the level cap to 50. The second raises it to 100. At level 75 after the second rebirth, True Rage creates a destructive domain around the wielder. A max-level Rage Staff can revive its wielder after death while Rage Mode is active.
Soul Staff
The Soul Staff is automatically granted when one player has all five required staffs:
- Wither Shadowstaff
- Fallen Angel Staff
- GlitchLord Staff
- GodStaff
- Rage Staff
It is a progression-granted item. A raw Creative or command-given copy may not have the required awakened status.
While holding it, the wielder receives:
- Jump Boost II
- Continuous Fire Resistance
- Soul-themed smoke and particles
Soul aura
- Normal use: affect nearby players who are not owned by the wielder with severe Slowness and Weakness, plus Nausea.
Soul control
- Crouch-use: open the Soul Staff player menu.
- Select another player to request their hand.
- The target must accept the request while within 3 blocks and in the same dimension.
After a player accepts, the menu provides:
- Instantly Kill
- Teleport Player Here
- Souls Swap
- Soul Lock / Soul Unlock
- Soul Release
A Soul Lock keeps the target at the locked position and applies Darkness and Nausea until unlocked or released.
Lord of Souls ultimate
Crouch-jump while holding the Soul Staff and choose Don't Move Ultimate.
The ultimate gives all players a short warning period. After the warning, the danger phase lasts about 20 seconds. Any player who moves, changes dimension, or moves beyond the tiny allowed threshold is killed. When the timer ends, the Lord of Souls announces Now.

Encounters
???
The ??? can appear naturally on the surface in low light on grass, dirt, or stone. It is most dangerous at night and disappears during daytime.
It:
- Has extremely high health and cannot be damaged normally.
- Selects nearby players within 64 blocks.
- Stalks from roughly 15–20 blocks away.
- Teleports behind or beside its target periodically.
- Enters its strike phase after stalking for about 30 seconds or when it gets within 5 blocks.
- Attacks with lightning and lethal damage.
- Does not target players holding the Soul Staff.
You can summon one with /summon com_wither_shadowstaff_pe7fs6xd:question_marks.
Soul Devourer
The Soul Devourer is a giant boss with 5,000 health and a boss bar labeled SERVER EVENT: Soul Devourer. Summon it with /summon com_wither_shadowstaff_pe7fs6xd:soul_devourer.
It targets living entities within 64 blocks except players holding the Soul Staff.
Its attacks include:
- Melee: 25 damage and knockback within 5 blocks.
- Ground Smash: a recurring explosion and shockwave around the boss.
- Lightning: targeted lightning, 40 damage, and a secondary explosion.
- Soul Reap: drains nearby targets, applying Weakness, Slowness, and Nausea while restoring the Soul Devourer's health.
- Crash impact: entities launched by its smash can trigger another explosion when they hit the ground.
The boss drops 0–2 Rotten Flesh. When killed by a player or pet, it has a small chance to drop an Iron Ingot, Carrot, or Potato.
